Since 1998, The Village apartments are located in the traditional village of Myrthios (or Mirthios) Plakias, in the south of the district and city Rethymno on Crete. However, our familiarity with the tourism industry has started since 1978, from the heart of the Plakias area in South Crete. We offer our clients not only pleasure and joy during their vacations, but also the sensation of being in the warmth and comfort of their house.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed in No 2 for 2 nights. Upon arrival there is a friendly note on the reception notice board and the key was in the door; such an easy way to check-in.
The apartment was ground floor with a balcony with a fantastic sea view. The apartment is large with a separate lounge/kitchen area. the main bedroom is spacious and the bathroom also excellent. The kitchen is fully equipped, everything is spotlessly clean and there is also built in air conditioning.
These apartments represent outstanding value as well as being a great place to stay and relax. On the edge of the village the shop and tavernas are just a short walk a way.

Village apartments in Mirthios are simply GREAT!
Beautiful sea view, neat and comfortable accommodation. Everything perfect. Plakias is close by and the beach is perfect. Great restaurants, nice people and everything that can serve is at hand.
Move to the western part of the island is easy and you can reach other beautiful places. Also the way in the direction of Festos is simple. There are other great beaches within easy reach. What more do you want? :)
P.S.: I highly recommend the restaurant Dyonissos in Mirthios. Even Sifis, in Plakias.

We have been coming to Village Apartments for several years. It has always had a rather basic, if cosy, feel to it, with brownish dated interiors and the most ancient beds. Why we kept coming back was the unbeatable views over the valley and Plakias to the sea (honestly, none of the other hotels have the same setting here) and the peace and quiet you can find on the Cretan mountains.
This time we arrived to find the Apartments completely transformed. And I mean completely, even the outside of the building was newly painted with brand new sign advertising the accommodation. It took me a while to realise we were outside the same building as before at all!
We were met by the lovely Maria, who had promptly responded to my emails beforehand and been most helpful with some payment issues I had. She showed us around the property, which indeed had completely been redone over the winter. And they certainly had gone through enormous trouble. All the rooms we saw were sleek, modern (but with some whimsical touches, like flower cushions) and well thought of. Maria also told us that they are still refurbishing the reception, where they plan to set up a small seating/library area. They already had stacks of books waiting, so I am sure it will be a delightful addition.
We stayed on the first floor, with the balconies facing the sea. We were the first guests in the rooms - you could still smell the paint! – and found them just jaw-droppingly renovated. Beautiful kitchenette with a lovely white table set, proper closets in the bedrooms, glass sliding doors to the balcony – they really must have worked through the winter to put all this together. The bathroom was beautifully done as well, and I actually scared myself by turning the shower on full blast without trying first, as the water pressure was amazingly good (much better than ours in London). Finally, and maybe most importantly, the beds were very comfortable. First time in Crete when I felt that the mattresses are not there to punish one’s back!
While I may feel all the newness lacked a little of the charm of Village Apartments we remember from before, I’m sure that over time it will get more of that homely feel. Certainly the owners are still warm, lovely people: On Easter Sunday we found a loaf of Easter sweet bread in our room, left there as a gift. We were so happy to see that things are improving in Myrthios (and in Crete in general as well), we saw many new and refurbished businesses that clearly spoke of optimism for the future.
Our stay in general was wonderful. Myrthios is still much as it was before, quaint and peaceful, but not at all too quiet. Dionysos taverna at the intersection just outside Village and Anna apartments is the absolute best place to eat in town, if not on the whole island. This place never disappoints unlike some of the tavernas on the other side of the road. Order a plate of fava if you visit!

The Village Apartments on the mountainside at Mirthios are comfortable, spotless & affordable with a wonderful view of Plakias Bay. We have stayed in various apartments and enjoyed all of them. Kitchens allow you to cook (fresh fish from Plakias - yum!) or you can find excellent dining just up the road. Staff are extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful.

We had a wonderful stay in Village Apartments in August 2015. It was peaceful and serene. We had a great view, AC and nice kitchen. The bed was bit hard though. Thats the only minus. The owners are relaxed, helpful, accomodating and warm. We will be back. Please check out the the Dinoysos tavern just few steps away. Its a pleasure to dine there -greek style, homey and generous.

We stayed in Village Apartments in one maisonete.. The room was clean and really comfortable, we could stay all summer there (we were 4 people)! The best was that there was a completely new yard with grass, which had a unique view at Liviko Sea.. You could stay day and night outside at the yard, so relaxing!!! The next great thing was the price.. it was one of the best value for money places we have stayed, so in conclusion i can say we enjoyed it more than we have imagine!! Of course you need to know that you need a car to make the journeys to the great beaches locating near there (not Plakias beach, other ones), but it deserves it!!

The view is stunning and the price very low for what it provides. The hotel is on the village of Myrthios 2 km away (overlooking) from Plakias bay. The service is fairly good and the owners are very nice. Very close (4 min walk) are 4 restaurants with very good kretan cuisine. We preffered Dionysos (first one) which is the best and we highly recommend it. The only disadvantage to the rooms are the small bathrooms and the firniture that are not new. This doesn't really bother you when you see the view and price of the rooms... Many beautiful beaches whithin 5-10 minutes drive. I really love south Rethymno!

It will take you around a two hour drive from Heraklion Airport to get here, but it's well worth the drive. Myrthios is a small village located on a hillside about a 5 minute drive from the coastal resort of Plakias, which contains all the usual shops and tavernas associated with a beach holiday, though not too many I'm glad to say.
If you are self catering, a car is really essential. There is only one grocery shop in Myrthios, run by a rather stern looking Greek lady in her 70's/80's who does not speak a word of English. It's good fun trying to communicate with her but all the goods are on display so it's not too difficult to understand each other. Whatever you ask for, she usually doesn't have - easy really!
We went to one of the large supermarkets in Heraklion from the airport and stocked up as much as we could - it saves a small fortune compared to the resort prices.
The Apartments are very clean, spacious and adequately furnished. The only slight criticism I would have is the kitchen area. You need to have very good organisational skills to cook because there is little space to put anything. A small niggle though. Great fridge freezer.
The view is fantastic. We were in Room 4, a one bedroom apartment, with balconies to the front (facing the village) and rear (facing the sea), from which you can see all of Plakias beach - one of the longest in Crete. I'm sure I spotted Shirley Valentine dawdling along a couple of times.
There is no reception as such at the apartments. When you arrive you simply make your way to your room and will find the key in the door. There are phone numbers to contact if you need further assistance. Our room was cleaned daily and the towels changed daily. Impressive! With Olive Oil and Raki thrown in!
Myrthios is a good central point for exploring the area. I would say Micro Amoudi was the best beach which is only about 15 minutes away. Prevelli is worth a visit but a real trek from the car park to get down to! Go by boat instead! Frangokastello was a big disappointment. The castle is an empty shell. I blame the Turks. Spili is inland and worth a visit.
We celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary while here and this holiday and these apartments will keep us together a while longer yet!
Finally, what can I tell you about the wind which wont blow you away...conjour up an image of a clothes airer taking flight, with towels on board, and winging its way from the top floor of our balcony to the garden down below, with traumatised guests nearby who only wanted to enjoy a coffee al fresco! That's how windy it gets round here!

The apartments are in the hills behind Plakias in the village of Mirthios which we preferred to staying down on the coastline. The apartment was comfortable and had a large balcony with an amazing view of the countryside and sea. There are three restaurants in the village so no need to go down to Plakias. This was the nicest place we stayed in during our trip to Crete and we would highly recommend it. The man in charge is welcoming and even carried our bags upstairs for us.
