Just spent two nights at Lea B&B. It is run by a lovely couple Andy and Sophie who made us so welcome from the minute we walked throgh the door. Room was spacious and bed very comfortable and breakfast superb. Walled garden is lovely, will definitely visit again. Thanks to you both for a lovely two days.

Wonderful old building lots of character. Room and en suite was very spacious and very clean. The breakfast was faultless and plenty of it. Finally the hosts were lovely and very friendly. A lovely place to stay wish I could’ve stayed longer

We booked to stay 3 nights in July & sent a deposit but 3 months before our visit because of circumstances outside our control we had to telephone to ask Caroline if we could change our dates to the previous week and also decided to stay an extra night. She said she had those 4 days free but we would have to lose half of our deposit. We felt that was really greedy and would detract from the enjoyment of our stay. It was not what you would expect from a friendly B&B. We were not cancelling our visit just moving the dates by a week. We wrote to her explaining how we felt and asking her to reconsider but the outcome was her taking our deposit and cancelling our booking. Our impression is of a hard-nosed business woman who puts profit before people: not quite the warm and friendly ethos we had hoped for!

As this is the first negative review I have received, I obviously take it very seriously and I am very sorry that these would-be guests feel this way. However, when a booking is made at Lea House, it is made very clear that a 25% non-refundable deposit is required to secure the dates requested. Unfortunately this couple wished to change to a new date and therefore cancel their original booking. As a gesture of goodwill I offered to return half the deposit which I felt was a fair compromise. They resisted and said they wished to cancel if I did not refund the total deposit taken. My business is my livelihood and therefore I must take a businesslike attitude in the way I run it. I am sorry if this is not appreciated by all.

bossy intrusive owner who needs to understand that guests are customers who don't like being told what to do and when to do it. Rooms (and bathrooms) are outdated and poorly equipped. Parking difficult in limited driveway.

Under normal circumstances I would be very concerned and conciliatory about a review such as this. However this guest was ill-tempered and out of sorts from the moment he arrived and it seemed nothing I could do was going to please him. I am surprised by his comments about my rooms being ill-equipped, since I provide more toiletries than any other hotel or guest house I have stayed in (cotton wool, cotton buds, quilted loo paper, shampoo and conditioner, soaps, flannels, fluffy towels and electrically powered showers) as well as flat-screen digital tvs, free Wi-Fi, new pocket-sprung mattresses, hospitality tray, hot water bottles, hair dryer, trouser press, chocolates to help yourself to, as well as use of the usual iron and board, shoe-cleaning, laundry service etc. What more I could provide I am not quite sure. I also do try to give advice as to the best things to see and do in the area - I consider that an important part of my role and, according to many of my other reviews, most people are grateful. Judging by this guest's only other trip advisor forum comment, he is clearly very hard to please and maybe better staying in a chain hotel where he can be sure everything is standard.

Stayed here for one night in the Cider Room.

Overall, extremely nice with exceptional hosts. The rooms were without doubt lovely and quaint. Beautifully clean with everything you would wish for.

Breakfast was served hot and to order. All breads and jams are homemade which was a real treat. A superb breakfast.

My only issue was the road noise. Our room was at the front and despite double glazing you could still hear the vehicles passing throughout the night. Sadly it did spoil a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed.

I would most certainly stay again but would request a room at the rear.

I feel as though we stayed at a different B&B than the other reviewers!
When we arrived early evening we were ushered in by the rather frosty, terse owner, and made to fill out forms and select breakfast before we had even put our bags down or taken our jackets off! We were not offered a choice of time for breakfast - the landlady dictated it - the first time I have ever come across that!
Although the rooms were mainly clean and comfortable, we didn't feel particularly cared for or looked after - it felt more that we were merely tolerated than welcome.
I gather the breakfasts were lovely - tho unfortunately I didn't get to take mine as I had a bad stomach!
We certainly didn't experience "the extra mile" that other guests have mentioned...
Maybe we just chose a bad day??

I am very sorry this guest feels she did not receive the care she expected. I am a little surprised by her first comment as it is pretty common practice to be asked to register when you arrive at a b&b or hotel. I do ask guests to choose their breakfast in the evening and, when a group arrives in the evening, as in this case, it is easier to request they do it before they disperse to their rooms. By the way, I have a 2-page menu and an AA breakfast award which means I offer too much choice to have everything available in the morning, without prior notice. As regards the breakfast times – this lady was in a group of 3 and it is a little difficult to seat everyone exactly when they want, as everything is freshly cooked by me. I believe her 2 friends actually chose the time, as far as I can recall – but I always offer a choice, although it may be a little earlier or later than their first preference, if others have already booked those slots. On the morning of their stay, I was told by her friend that this lady wanted to sleep in as she was unwell, so we did not disturb her, nor ask her to vacate the room, which meant they did not eventually leave till nearly noon, which delayed our changeover process considerably. This we accepted with good grace and made no extra charge.

We've just returned from a wonderful two nights at Lea House.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were made to feel totally at home in the beautiful and very homely Lea House. Our dog travelled with us and she too was made welcome as the house is extremely dog friendly. There are plenty of walks close by and most local pubs allow dogs inside, which is handy.
Our room for our stay, the Granary, was well appointed, quaint and extremely cosy. We slept well in the comfortable beds.
Before going to bed each night, we ordered our breakfast which was cooked fresh at our requested times. The breakfast was delicious and extremely filling with everything you could wish for on offer including some home made treats such as: marmalade, jams and fresh bread! Yum!! Thank you, Sophie!
We made lots of use of the guest lounge, with its roaring fire in the log burner, and enjoyed an evening relaxing by the fire drinking wine. Bliss! Andy, the owner, stoked the fire frequently and we enjoyed chatting about football and the surrounding area (amongst other things!) - which he and Sophie are extremely knowledgable about. It's worth asking their advice on trips and places of interest in the area.
The B and B is perfectly located for exploring the Surrounding area and you could easily spend days here and see something new each time.
Whilst staying at lea house, we ate at the neighbouring Indian restaurant (located in the Crown Inn) and we both enjoyed our meals. There was also plenty of choice of pubs/ restaurants which are all within a couple of miles of the house.
If we return to the area, we'd definitely stay here again and we felt so comfortable and welcome here. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a cosy B and B in a great location. Thank you for a wonderful two nights!
