We will not be back. We paid over 300e for a room and received about 75 euros in service. We notified the hotel of our arrival and requested a shuttle. The shuttle was waiting when we left the ferry, but the shuttle was over booked (not enough seats for everyone) and we were informed our room was not ready. They suggested we walk around the village and then walk to the hotel in an hour. We told them we would just ride to the hotel. At the hotel, we were informed that our room still wasn't ready and they would call us. After 90 minutes, we still hadn't been called. We went to the front desk and the front desk clerk had to run somewhere to check to see if our room was ready. We finally checked in. The room was large and nice. The view from the terrace was spectacular. But, the WIFI does not work in the rooms,. There isn't a TV and the tub only had a shower wand (now shower). The grounds were very nice and the museum interesting, but not large. Breakfast was a disorganized disaster. We arrived with 2 other parties. The party before us and the party after us were both seated. We were left to stand. After 15 minutes, we seated ourselves as opposed to standing in a hallway as breakfast servers passed by us. After about 20 minutes, I finally tracked down someone to help us. The items very limited. For the price of 19euro a piece, we received about 5 euro of food. The server who finally helped was very nice. They seemed to be under staffed and had no clear system for checking people in despite requiring a breakfast reservation. We have stayed many places as my husband travels for work about 200 days a year (pre Covid). This was one of the most disappointing stays, ever. The town had many small, quaint hotels. Next time, we will choose one of those.

Belle Ile is not exactly an A list destination so the citadelle is under used and affordable for the amazing historical significance and beauty it represents. The converted barracks are very well done with sweeping ocean views from every room, long hallways with flickering lights and a peaceful and serene sensibility. The staff were very nice in this seasonal hotel

We booked this hotel for the « spa » as we were hiking the coastal path and needed to relax after long hikes each day. Nothing worked—jacuzzi, sauna, pool heater were all broken. The outdoor pool is ugly and not at all sheltered from the wind. The indoor pool is tiny and filled with misbehaving children screaming and jumping into the pool. The breakfast room is tiny and overcrowded and the personnel seemed stressed out. Chairs are very uncomfortable and there is no way to talk. The elevator was out of service for two days, so after hiking up the steep climb to the hotel we had to climb up the 2 long flights of stairs. All this for 215 euros per night. The site is spectacular and the room was big but very rundown. Water faucets didn’t work, stains on walls and carpets (which were not vacuumed during our stay). No WiFi or tv in rooms. We felt totally ripped off and would never stay there again.

We arrived on Belle Ile without doing research or knowing where we would stay or what exactly we would do. I wouldn’t recommend that in high season or in fact any time after 23rd June. However, we made all the right decisions and the weather was terrific which always helps. Net result - we booked sea view rooms at the Citadelle which were fabulous. We dined at the restaurant in the Citadelle on the first night which was also an excellent decision. Breakfasted in the dining room each day which was very good indeed. We stayed three nights rather than the one we originally planned. We had a fabulous time. Cycling around Belle Ile in electric bikes rented from Eric down in the port Next door to the little car rental on the front. We loved every minute of our time on Belle Ile and our stay at the Citadelle. I can highly recommend.
