Stayed in the Small Chalet. It was freshly painted and clean. Very basic but what you need. The veranda is where you will spend your time. The view is absolutely amazing: You can stare at the Kransberg Mountains for hours. Good walking opportunities. Should work well for MTB. Off-grid with great outside shower. Can recommend bu do ask the owners for a key to the door- if not you will be sleeping with an unlocked door- however, never felt in any danger. Buy ice in Thabazimbi and if you are a bit fussy, take your own wine glasses. Recommended. Large Chalet was empty so I had a peek. Somewhat larger but the view is as good if not better.

Louis and Charmain are wonderful hosts and have two amazing cottages 2kms up the mountain from their homestead. We loved the view and amenities. The privacy and peace and quiet are out of this world. We really enjoyed walking around the farm and seeing birds, ostrich, Blesbok, impala and warthog. The stars and milky way at night were stunning. Everything is perfect for a self catering holiday.

Far off the beaten track with lovely views.
Very private and quiet.
Nice outdoor shower with a view.
Very outdated furniture and utensils.
Too many beds squashed into the unit.
6 km on a very corrugated road and then 2km on a rough farm road.
Very few animals.

The bush chalets looked lovely, but I wouldnt recommend staying in the guest house. Whilst the hosts were welcoming and accommodating, it is pricey for what you get - a private room in the owners' house with little privacy and dated furnishings.

Wonderful place to be, in a chalet with a great view, in the bush. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The thing is you do need a 4X4 car because a sedan car like ours doesn't like the 24 humps and the rough road up to the chalet. But the nice owner lent us his 4X4. You will see many animals on the property. The chalets are getting a bit old, but they are OK. Bring a frying pan for cooking, only pans were available!

If you're expecting a fully stocked and luxurious cottage, like I did, the first moments here will be a bit weird. Because it's not that kind of thing.

But after the shock we realized it's actually a wonderful place to get away from it all. It has no electricity, just a gas fuelled fridge and a few led lights. But plenty of wood for a braai and to heat your water.

Starry nights here are amazing, so you feel like you're at the end of the world. It is close to Makalele park, but because it's on a dirt road and the cottage is located at the back of the terrain it still takes a good 20 minutes to get to the park.

Having said all that, the utilities could be upgraded a bit. Cupboards are lose and doors don't close very well for example. It could do with a guy and a screwdriver.

You're allowed to take your dog, which we did. But with all the animals walking around on the park, you'd be better off leaving him/her at your home.

We couldn't get accommodation inside Marakele game park for our weekend visit, so we stayed just outside at Boschfontein - it was ideally situated, a short drive from the park entrance. Also it's an easy drive to Thabazimbi, they also take in contract workers from the mines there.

The room was ideal for us, clean and tidy, we slept well in comfortable beds and breakfast was plentiful.

The farm is surrounded by game which the farm rears for hunting, and we had ostriches wandering around our car park.

For evening meal we decided to visit the pub just opposite the Marakele entrance gate, but we could have eaten at Boschfontein if we had requested in advance.

We were warmly welcomed and treated to a comfortable evening as guests, I would happily recommend the B&B for an overnight or longer stay.
