Dave and Monika were wonderful welcoming hosts with lots of local knowledge (we needed advice on road conditions as we were pulling a trailer) and very accommodating when we needed to make sandwiches for our day trips and our braai. Room very comfortable and loadshedding didn't affect us at all as they are equipped for it. Breakfast was perfect as was the supper we had. Perfectly situated for trips to Marakele. Stunning views from their verandah.

Wonderful location in the Bush, but only 10 minutes away from Thabazimbi town. Fantastic view above the valley. On the way to the lodge we saw many Impalas and birds.
Marlula Cottage is only 10 min away from Marakele Nationalpark and about 1 hour to Pilanesberg Nationalpark.
Rooms are very comfortable and clean, water is excellent drinking water (own 170 m deep well). We ordered dinner before arrival and got very good meals, served in the dining area, where you can socialise with other guest (Max 8 guest).
Dave and Monika are very helpful, so Dave as experienced Safari guide give you great advises, if you want to explore a Park on your own. We had a problem with our car rental company and Monika did several Calls and Emails to sort it out.
We could not have found a better place to stay.

What a special place. As you drive to the entrance you pass game farms on either side of you, we spotted bush buck, black impala, waterbuck and klipspringer. Then once you arrive you are greeted by the most wonderful couple - Monika and Dave. They couldn’t do enough for us, from carrying everything to and from the car, feeding the bushbabies at night so that we got to see them, and of course Monika’s ‘special scrambled eggs’ for breakfast. The view out over the pool of the mountains in the distance is incredible. We absolutely loved our stay. The room was very clean and comfortable. And the chirps coming from all the birds in the trees outside added to the feeling that you are immersed in nature. The highlight of our stay however was Monika and Dave. We loved chatting to them and regret we couldn’t have stayed for a week. We actually wish we lived close by so that we could become friends! Please stay here! It’s a place (and hosts) we will remember forever.

Should be able to choose from breakfast options. Only had scrambled eggs as we don't eat that much, but we paid for everything that was placed on the table.
Room a bit pricy for only a few hours sleep and then everything that is available, refreshments, are available at additional costs. Unable to have coffee in the room due to power failure.

Setting is idyllic Africa. Hosts genuinely enjoy their guests and do everything possible to ensure that each customer has an amazing experience. Breakfasts and optional dinners are absolutely delicious. Marakele National park is 10 minutes drive. Pilanesberg Park is less than an hour. Entire property is spotless. Covid protocols are carefully maintained. I’ve stayed at Marula Cottage four times and will stay again.

The location, the view and the hospitality were outstanding! Breakfast and especially dinner were amazing! We got a lot very useful travel advise from Monica and Dave (the owners). The lodge has a very personal touch so that we really felt home. We would return there any time.

What a nice and warm welcome at Marula Cottage! Monika and Dave as well as their lovely dogs gave all to make our stay unforgettable. Not only a friendly smile but lot of questions about our way, our plans and our wishes made us feel like arriving at home. Rooms are very clean and cozy and have stunning view.
Good advises for our next day made it to a very special and really unforgettable day.
Dinners were wonderful and presented with love. The scrambled egg special were the most healthiest breakfast eggs of our four week holidays. Lots of information about the area, the animals around and answers at all our questions made it perfect.
Thank you, Monika, Dave and Finyas, we'll definitely will come back!

Wonderful hostes and a great place to stay for visiting Makarele NP. There is no better place to stay if you are not going to stay in one of the Marataba lodges. You will get the chance to stay in a very private home with this nice couple in a great viewing property and make your own drive into the park.

We had a very pleasant stay at Marula Cottage Guest Lodge with Dave and Monika. Special was the knowledge of Dave sharing with us while at game drive in Pilanesberg. Monika's tasteful dishes at dinner and the sharing with other guests, which were enriching stories from travellers all over the world.
