Monika and Dave are brilliant hosts and a perfect couple. The setting is perfect if you want to really get away from things and the views from the balcony are amazing. There are several rescue dogs who are all full of character (Maggie was our favourite!) and definitely great you with wagging tails. There are lots of wildlife to see, particularly birds but our best treat was seeing the bush babies! We ate evening meals (it’s not really close to any restaurants) which were superb and the breakfast definitely set us up for the day. Its close to Marakele National park for day trips.

We were warmly welcomed by Monika and Dave. The location of the accommodation is beautiful with a great distant view. The food was very tasty. Always everything freshly prepared, varied. The drive with Dave in Marakele NP was beautiful and very informative. The stop for breakfast in a stunning location . An unforgettable time. Many thanks to both

What an amazing find. I honestly can't find any fault with the spot. The owners are great, as are the rooms and food. You can't ask for a better view anywhere in the country! Of course if you love dogs the friendly locals are an additional bonus!

It is always a pleasure to stay at Marula Cottage Guest Lodge and enjoy the serenity of the place. Dave and Monika, the ideal hosts go out of their way to help you choose the best possible excursions and make the necessary bookings for you if so required. Maybe the highlight of the day is sitting together with other guests and enjoying an excellent dinner prepared by Monika. On multiple visits, the hospitality been always of the highest standard and I can only recommend the place if you stay in Thabazimbi.

How do you rate a place where you arrive as a stranger but leave as a friend? A "Place of Sanctuary" nestled at the side of a rocky koppie with a view over the heart of the Waterberg Mountain. That all in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa. A tranquillity shared by a contented couple and Bush Babies with the barking of baboons and the grunting of a leopard - the real Africa. I guess it is easy - 5 stars, but it deserves more. Unfortunately, words and stars are all I have... The welcome is warm and the accommodation spotless (thanks Phinias). The breakfast on the stoep, under a thatched roof, brilliant and the dinner, freshly cooked, heaven - a smell to die for. (Monika is the chef). Dave is the man to talk to should you wish to prebook a trip to Marakelele National Park. The main entrance to the park is only a ten minute or less drive from the guest lodge. A trip into the park is advisable as there is not much else to do at the lodge but to enjoy the scenery. The access road is bumpy, but we managed it with a small sedan, so go and discover at a very reasonable price. I will be back.
