We stayed in the Giant Rock Lodge. It was comfortable, but a bit run down, with broken chairs and tables. The space was nice and the open windows were lovely in the room. It would be nice if the blinds could be closed though (they can’t be attached to stay down) as the nights were very windy and stormy. The fridge was a good size and the self catering equipment was sufficient. The splash pool was great, as it was 40+ during our stay. The hiking was lovely. It would be nice if there was a map or some information on the trails, so that you could know how long they are, if they are circular, etc. Our dogs liked the space, just not the heat.
The owner is quite disorganized, which put a bit of a negative start to the stay. The gates were locked, and another family was already trying to get in, when we arrived. I luckily found some cell reception and called the owner, she was very rude and claimed to have sent an email with instructions, which I never received (even in spam). After searching for ages, and getting help from a passing neighbor, we eventually found the key, in the bush, after half climbing through the fence. She needs to update her directions and payment policy on her adverts. An email I did receive from her demanded the balance of the payment 7 days before we arrived, the payment policy was cash on arrival.
This was our 5th stop of 8 around the country.
We felt this stay was a little overpriced.

I'm so sorry you felt that I was rude and it was me that talked you through where the key was - the guest with you said it was where it should be so I'm a bit confused about your review. Also, we are an eco-lodge - we work with gas and solar power and have no electricity - as result, we can't accept 'cash on arrival' as stated by you as we can't use a payment system, which some guests aso conside to be 'cash'. . Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the weather, much as I would love to sometimes. :) and a map will be useful, I will start looking at that right away, thanks! Unfortunately, by the end of the December holidays our furniture has taken a bit of a beating by the continuous flow of guests, but I have taken a note of that and will upgrade our maintenance program over the December period. We are closed now for 2 weeks now to fix and upgrade everything for the coming year.

I've booked an accommodation at their farm, and lockdown hit. I had to postpone my trip due to the travel restrictions.
When finally everything get back to normal again, I contacted them to reschedule a date, but they ignored my message. The booking agent was not more successful than me.
I didn't necessarily want the refund of my booking, I just wanted to reschedule my trip, and was even ready to pay a bit extra to cover the fare difference between 2020 and 2022, but they obviously wanted to keep my money.
Very disappointed and definitely not recommend them.

We had a fantastic stay in Aloe lodge. The farm itself is easily accessible from Gauteng and set amidst beautiful mountains. We enjoyed the walking trails and wonderful views. The lodge offers an amazing back to nature experience with it's open plan design, cosy sitting areas, delightful splash pool and fabulous fire pit. It is clean, rustic and comfortable. The wifi is great and the kitchen well equipped. However, we were glad to be able to top up the solar lighting with the portable lights we had brought along. The hosts were very responsive and Macmillan was warm, welcoming and extremely helpful.

The peaceful setting and beautiful surroundings were exactly what I needed to recharge and relax.

The lodge itself was cozy and comfortable, and I appreciated the attention to detail in the decor and amenities.

It was wonderful to be able to disconnect from technology and just enjoy nature, with the option to indulge in some outdoor activities or simply unwind by the fire.

Thank you again for a wonderful stay, I hope to return soon!
