A friend and I visited Bass Lake Lodge over the past weekend. It was worth every cent. Clara, Wolf and Spencer are the best. The food is absolutely delicious. It is worth driving from Pretoria on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon to have the lamb shank. We strolled down to the camping site. The ablution facilities are modern and kept immaculately clean. There is ample space for the children to enjoy themselves whether it is biking, fishing, paddling on the dam, playing on the jungle gym or taking rides on the go-carts. One can hardly think that this facility is only 30 kilometers from Pretoria. We will definitely visit this facility again.
Bass Lake Lodge is a little bit of paradise - so close in driving distance, but it feels as if though you are in the heart of the bush. The rooms and amenities are all beautifully maintained and comfortable and the food is fresh and wholesome. It was lovely to see how visitors enjoyed the lakes, fishing, paddling in the little boats and just having fun in the sun. If you wish to rejuvenate your soul, Bass Lake Lodge is just the place to do so!
The campsites are lovely and the ablutions are immaculate. The staff are friendly and very helpful. However, we went there during school holidays and were told that on a Saturday they have events for the kids, such as "minute to win it, arts & craft, obstacle courses". They were taken on a 30 minute "game drive" on the back of a tractor and no further activities were offered on the Saturday. It was also a long weekend, and the shop was open from the Friday to the Monday. We were then told on the Monday that the shop would be closed until Friday, which means we had no access to buying anything, cooldrink, wood, etc. (this was not told to us before we arrived but only on the Monday). Not only was the shop closed, the kids games room, which offers table tennis, pool, air hockey was now also closed until the Friday. They also have little paddle boats that the kids can ride on the lake, this was only available on the Saturday and the boats were chained up for the rest of our stay although there weren't many guests there, I felt that they could have allowed the kids to at least do this. So although our stay was pleasurable and the actual facility itself is beautiful, I would not advise families going with kids unless it's over a weekend as there is not much on offer for kids at all and especially during school holidays more effort should be made to accomodate children.…
We were welcomed at he entrance and assisted with our luggage. The rooms are comfortable and the facilities , well kept and user friendly. The staff members are all friendly and helpful. Our braai ( barbecue) evening was a real treat. Thank you
Well organized, excellent fresh food, attention to detail and visible staff but discreet. I would highly recommend this venue for any conference. The service is really wonderful and all staff very friendly and helpful. Only suggestion would be aircons in rooms.
