If you get the chance to visit this wonderful farm, DO IT!!! This was the highlight of our 2 week S. Africa trip. We enjoyed every minute of Horseback Africa. The food is amazing, the animals are amazing and the people are amazing. The lion walk and feeding the cubs was a memory that is still lingering in our minds even after 5 months!

During two days and one night, we shared the passion of animals of Colin's family : feeding baby lions, walking with lions, horse riding (with gnous, antilops, zebras, girafs, ...). Compared to other game park (such as Kruger, ...) horse riding let you come very close to the animals .. and it's really amazing. Horses are carefully selected in order to match rider's level and personnality ! so, it's perfectly safe. You can also have presentation of snakes, iguana, ... from Colin's sons !. We also enjoyed the rooms (close to the lion's area, you can hear them roaring during the night !), the lunch and barbecues (braai to use the local word !).. and the swimming pool. So, don't hesitate ! Francois

A morning visit to Horseback Africa, near Pretoria, was the highlight of a 2 week SmarTours safari & tour of South Africa. It was offered as an optional tour on our last day. We were welcomed by a wonderful caring family that lovingly operates this lodge & nature reserve. Their main focus is on conservation, education, and interacting with the lions. We were given an informative talk about lions and their habits. Then we went walking with young 3 month old lions and watched them play with us and each other and the huge pet dog that runs with them. The adorable lions were very friendly and absolutely gorgeous. After the walk, they were fed. We saw the teen aged lions and then the adult lions. We watched them feeding whole chickens, feathers and all, to the adult lions while

Many thanks to the MacRae family for the wonderful welcome to their beautiful farm and for making the stay there such a memorable one. They really make you feel like family guests. We stayed for two nights and joined the horseback safari and the lion walk. Before the horseback safari Brandon took the time to understand how experienced everyone was and gave short briefing. We were then all allocated a horse. The ride was a wonderful experience. I never realised that horses were such political animals :-). You can really tell that the family loves their horses and looks after them well. Don't miss it even if you are an absolute beginner like me. The lion walk was a lot of fun. It also started with a short introduction about the purpose of the walk and the lion project. Emma,

This was my best experience in Africa. I got to play with lions, servals and other exotic animals. Got to catch some nice bass. The highlight was the horse safari, which was an amazing way to get close to the animals. The lodging and food were really nice and authentic. It was such a nice relief from the Disney Land experience at some of the posher facilities. The best part was the MacRae family. Their passion for the work is infectious. I went two hours out of my way for this day and a half experience, and it was definitely worth it.
