Our first visit to Didima... The setting is spectacular, with the tall acacias making an interesting backdrop to the rugged Northern 'Berg. The shape of the units (they remind me of little bugs) add to the otherworldly atmosphere, and the little interpretive caves with their pools scattered about are super charming (and full of little mountain Cacos!) The staff were friendly, the breakfast sufficient and the craft centre well stocked with beautiful traditional baskets. The Rock Art Centre was informative - the video display was down, but it still provides a valuable insight into the First People.

The staff assistance was excellent: I called & informed them I need a unit with a double bed in a quiet area. They had 2 conference groups, and put us into a 4 bedded unit and blocked the unit next to us (37, right on the edge) which suited us to a tee.

We didn't sample the restaurant fare - with the conferences, they only offered buffet & I can get that in Johannesburg, so I can't comment on the restaurant. It would however be nice if the curio shop sold more Didima-branded goods..

The walks were excellent - we did Rainbow Gorge, Doreen & Ribbon Falls & the Mushroom Rock and even got nice & wet on the Spring Equinox. The camp would be good for birding when it is quieter - and there were a lot of birds there in the capacity camp already!

Verdict? We'll have to come back soon again!

I stayed at Didima during the latter part of June 2017 for a semi-formal meeting over a period of 3 days.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is great! The huts are influenced with both modern and African cultural finishes, and nestled in Cathedral Peak, Drakenaberg. My room had all essentials, including a standard sized oil heater and a 2 blankets to keep warm during those cold winter nights, which on one night reached approximately -2. There is also a swimming pool, tennis court and mini braai facilities near the accommodation spots.

There are numerous huts situated in Cathedral Peak, and have scenic views surrounded by the Drakensberg Mountains. There are also a few species of buck that live in the vicinity, and Baboons (although I didn't see any).

The air is crisp, and fresh, which is a much needed change from the pollutants we inhale daily in our cities.

Restaurant and food:

As part of the meeting package, we were provided with buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Please be reminded that I am a vegetarian, so this part of my review May not be applicable to all people.

The breakfasts were great and had an above average spread of bake beans, fried potatoes, mushrooms and cereals, breads and buns and tea.

The lunches and dinners were not consistent with some having more vegetarian options than the others.

I think that the restaurant can be improved by providing name tags of the dishes, and have atleast 2 vegetarian options at each sitting.

Conference facilities:

The conference facilities are beautiful and are maintained well and have large glass walls to add to the ambience of the mountains.

We were provided with wifi and the password, however this worked very poorly and unfortunately is one of the major reasons for my overall rating of 3 stars. Also there is no wifi facilities at the restaurant and the accommodation spots.

Overall it is a good place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. There are a few walking trails and plentiful parking facilities available.

Wow, stunning facility and locations in the KZN, Drakensberg, The views are breathtaking and the lodge was well equipped for our weekend breakaway.

I recommend that you visit their website for a comprehensive discussion of all the activities and services that are offered on site.

The only small negative is the restaurant facilities which is a buffet for dinner and breakfast (the food is still good, but very limited options), but Cathedral Peak Hotel is just down the road should you be in the mood for more fancy fare.

We stayed at Didima campsite for a few days. On arrival we asked if we could buy some ice for our coolers. We were directed to the bar and was informed that the machine was o.o.o. At the campsite we found the grounds overgrown by grass and the sites still littered with cigarette buds from prev. Campers. No access control by the gates of the actual campsite. Merely rocks placed infront the gates at night. The ablutions were terrible. Experienced no hot water before 7am. The showers were not once scrubbed during our stay. Only mopped with water.Mildew and build up scum in the showers.Reported to reception the maintenance/hygiene issues however by the time we departed nobody attended to them. Compared to 2009 when we last stayed. The place has seriously been missed managed.

Not "Camp", it's beautiful large quirky "eagle beak shape" thatched units. Not advertised is even if you have booked a self-cater unit, the breakfast IS INCLUDED. Superior views & tranquility to hotel

We have stayed at Didima 4 times now. The main reason is because it is a truly fantastic spot to hike the berg. Every visit has provided different experiences. I would have to agree with other reviewers that as the years go by the lack of maintenance on this property is becoming a true problem. Our first stay was in the 4 bed chalet. This accommodation is fantastic with all the necessary furnishings for a great self catering stay. I highly recommend this unit. Our second and third stay were in the 2 bed- inter leading chalets. All the units have fireplaces indoors for the cold and braai facilities outside. They also have a magnificent view over the mountains. The rooms itself is basic and only some units have kitchens. Our most recent stay was at the campsite which we have really enjoyed. The sites are notably large and there is ample shade. The bathrooms are very basic but they are extremely clean and there is two-ply toilet paper. There are electricity points for each site but fewer water points. The entire resort has a serious baboon problem which is something to keep in mind when leaving windows or doors open. The service from the staff seems to improve each year. The best time of the year for hiking is November and April. There a numerous hiking routes for all level of skill. Be smart and buy a proper map. It will save you getting lost on a trail. The resort also has a tennis curt and swimming pool. The breakfast buffet is delicious and their pastry chef can make miracles with scones and croissants. The curio shop is well priced and also sells basic camping necessities. The colder months also offer there own winter charm and are well worth a visit to sit around the fire place and gaze at the beauty of the mountain.

Didima Camp has beautifully styled chalets that immitate a Zulu village huts, with a view of the Drakensberg mountains in the front and a hilly mountaneous view in the back. We enjoyed the entire setting from their Rock Art museum, Curio shop with traditional artefacts, a welcoming foyer, a stunning dining room for a family or a couple. Yeah, so much to say about this place. At night, dont miss to look up to the blue sky lit with stars and peacefulness. Staff are so helpful and understanding to assist with whatever need you have. Thumbs up !

Didima Camp is located in the North Drakensberg, in the middle of the mountains. The scenary is amazing. A few hiking trails and Bushmen paintings make the stay very appealing. The architecture is respectful with the place and blends with the environment. The rooms are very confortable, spacious, cozy and romantic, with a fireplace perfect for sharing a glass of wine after a long hike in winter time. They are selfstanding and privacy is guaranteed.

The food is not bad at all and self-cattering rooms are also available.

A friend booked so that I did not have to go through the mission of KZN Wildlife bookings, which probably immediately improves my attitude.

This area is arguably one of the most beautiful in the Drakensberg. The camp is on a hillside with beautiful walks nearby and good facilities. There was refurbishment of thatch roofing happening next door which was quite intrusive, but did not detract from the view.

A nice dining room makes breakfasts really special. However management was absolutely absent. The staff were friendly but poorly trained (they did not stand up to greet one when approaching front desk and in fact were largely disinterested in guests).

Didima is in such a beautiful location, with stunning views all around.
After spending a few days in the mountains and returning to Didima lodge, the service of the restaurant was a bit poor with miscommunication on what the menu shows and what you receive on your plate, our waiter also didn't seem to be very well trained or informed about their menu, but the bit of lack of service is made up for from all the staff that work there. Every single staff member we interacted with was friendly and extremely helpful. Didima is still a top rating for me because the location and people make it a worthwhile experience.
