A lovely location with the friendliest most a come dating service. The team here go out of their way to see to guests needs with smiles all around. Conference facility is spacious and well lit. My highlight was the food in partocular the chicken strips and chips (a dish I would normally never order) which was so delicious and generous! We look forward to seeing the improvements that will be made by the new owners.
As a hotel, Hebron Haven is a work in progress. The owners Mike and Shawn are extremely hospitable and strive to make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible. The menu at the restaurant is limited, but each and every item on the menu is delicious, (best chips I have ever eaten), portions are huge and extremely well priced. I have eaten there several times and am yet to be disappointed. We ate our meals in the enclosed veranda. With the fire going it was extremely cosy with an awesome ambiance.
This place grew on us the longer we stayed. The food was superb and the atmosphere homely. The actual rooms and hotel needs TLC but we are aware that cannot happen overnight and we understood that it is a process. Great for the kids in terms on being close to a river for fishing etc.
The reason for my bracketed comment in the title is simply that since Shaun and her brother Mike took over in July 2019, they've done some great work - the plague notwithstanding - to start bringing the Haven back to its former glory. Although we'd never visited before, my wife and I remember its good reputation from hearing about it years ago when we lived in Durban: this is clearly evident in the excellent facilities, which are slowly being restored. As other reviewers have reported, the welcome you get, the food, the amazing nature surrounding you, the Midlands Meander area (unfortunately itself in need of some cosmetic repair!) and so on, make it definitely well worth a stay. What is probably the most important thing to me (admittedly cursed with a bit of a statistics background, fired up by the daily Covid-19 figures) is that - thanks to the evidence from two 10-day stays in November and December - they seem to be on an exponentially upwards improvement curve. While our November trip occurred relatively soon after SA entered Level 2 restrictions in August we still had a great time if a bit restricted, but by the time we returned in December it was amazing how things had moved onwards and upwards. I therefore feel totally justified in recommending the Haven to prospective customers, especially considering the very competitive rates that reflect this 'improving' situation. I would, however, warn any socialites used to five star living to stay away and leave the Haven to us 'normal' people who can appreciate its splendours! PS I have only given four stars purely due to the ongoing improvements being carried out and feel sure that this would go up to five once these are completed.…
