Detailed Reviews
Ruslamere scored lots of points by allowing me to check-in 3 hours early, and also by allowing me to depart 1 hour late, the latter being due to the fact that the water supply had been interrupted, and as there was no water, my preparation to depart had been held up.
They also arranged a fridge for my room.
The very bright security light at the main entrance was a nuisance, shining directly into several rooms, including mine. and it ought to be toned down, I think.

Peaceful, clean and comfortable. Good area, beautiful place with huge garden. But service is crap. Asked for a breakfast box, but reception said they would ask breakfast staff to open 15min earlier than usual. Guess what… no communication, and me and my guest for early morning meeting had to leave hungry. Felt so humiliated.

Upon arrival at the hotel there was no one at the security gate to let me in. Had to wait at least 10 minutes to enter the premises. There is no telephone in the room to contact the reception desk for any issues in the room. The following day the breakfast was also not ready at 7am as I had to leave early for a business meeting.

The hotel needs proper attention and a good clean.
The bedding in the rooms needs to be replaced as it is outdated with holes in them.
My pillows inside the cover were so dirty and brown, with dead bug shells in them. On the last night of my stay, there were small spiders in the bed and bathroom. When you order food delivered to your room, it gets delivered with no cutlery. The service at the restaurant is slow. The hotel should also have a proper indication of when there will be load shedding for the guests to properly plan.

Truely disappointed in our stay at Ruslamere. Booked 3 rooms to overnight after a family wedding, upon arrival before we headed off to the wedding no one to check us in at "front of house" neither to check us out on departure . We had faulty lights in the rooms, aircon units that did not work, wall plugs that did not work in the one room and then the wall plug blew whilst my phone was on charge and busted my phones charger in the other. Our rooms was opposite the pool, the pool was yellow, dirty and could not be utilised and no explanation therof... We were not taken through the actual layout of the place and facilities we could use. I will acknowledge upon returning from the wedding late that night we found champagne, an apology note and keys to alternate rooms to apologise for the inconvenience however when coming back at a late hour who wants to move all their belongings? Early morning music from the restaurant woke us up... We were told there is a buffet option as well for breakfast we can decide on the morning but there was no such... Definitely not the monies worth, the place can do with some TLC and a deep clean where the "smell" of the place should be welcoming and have you back again!

Hi Mr Pietersen and Golitha family We were devastated that so much went wrong simultaneously during your stay with us. After investigating the electrical situation at the time, it was found that a load-shedding power surge was the cause of the short on the DB board which took out a whole block. We initially thought it was a complication with our inverter installation. Our electricians worked until very late to try to resolve the problem, but because of the nature and magnitude of the short, were unable to get it fixed before your return, and yes, moving at that time of the night is certainly no fun. The pool weir was also under repair while you were here. Our team was stretched with trying to keep everyone comfortable during the down-time. We will certainly be giving all of our guests a better orientation going forward and will include the location of the second pool. It is certainly not the standard we like to deliver at Ruslamere, and not the way we like to do things. If there are insufficient numbers, we don’t put a breakfast buffet out, so I will discuss communication with the team with regard to that, so thank you for bringing that to our attention. I have launched an inquiry into your unhappiness with regard to housekeeping and will get back to you shortly. Please accept our humblest apologies for the inconvenience caused. Management.

To whom it may concern:
I booked a one night stay for my parents and I was not pleased with the accommodation. The room was not cleaned properly before we entered.Sheets were dirty, empty packets of chips in drawers, and Urine in the pot.
Then on the site it says that breakfast is included .And when I stayed there with My husband some time ago it was a buffet breakfast. My parents were looking forward to that but the kitchen staff told them that there is not a lot of people staying at the hotel so they not going to make a buffet breakfast which I think is a Rip off. Myself or my parents will not be returning to Ruslamere again and we will share this experience with friends and family to avoid their future dissatisfaction at Ruslamere.
We expected the staff of the hotel to give extra care to the little people that booked during the time my parents were there ,then it could have been different. No one gave us a tour of the place. We didnt even know there were two pools to use.Oh and the pool was dirty too close to the room my parents were in. Ruslamere is outdated and maintained well.
My parents were only happy that they got some rest in the comfy bed. That was it.

Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. I sincerely apologize for the disappointing experience your parents had during their stay at Ruslamere. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and I deeply regret the inconvenience and discomfort caused. We take the cleanliness and maintenance of our facilities very seriously. Upon receiving your complaint, we have taken immediate steps to address the problems you mentioned: Housekeeping and Cleanliness: We are conducting a thorough review and re-training of our housekeeping staff to ensure that such oversights do not occur again. The condition of the room your parents stayed in, including the dirty sheets, empty packets, and unclean pot, is unacceptable, and we are implementing stricter quality control measures. Breakfast Service: I apologize for the inconsistency in our breakfast service. The decision not to provide a buffet breakfast due to low occupancy should have been communicated more effectively. We are revising our policy to ensure that all guests receive the breakfast experience they were promised, regardless of occupancy levels. Hospitality and Amenities: It is regrettable that your parents were not given a tour of the facilities and were unaware of the amenities available, such as the pools. We are enhancing our check-in procedures to ensure that all guests are fully informed about the hotel's features. Additionally, the pool's cleanliness is being addressed immediately, and regular maintenance checks are being enforced. Your feedback has highlighted several areas where we need to improve, and we are committed to making the necessary changes. Thank you for your understanding and for giving us the opportunity to improve our services. Sincerely, Marion

1. The room was not clean. Plugs behind the pedestal were full of grime. It was the same with the table on which the kettle was kept.
2. There was no one attending to the self-service breakfast. Water for making tea was warm. Not hot enough to make tea
3. Ceylon tea bags were kept in the shop packaging. This is clumsy
4. The only thing perfect in the room was the bed. It was very comfortable
5. The reception staff was great. I was well received and the checkout was seamless

What once was a luxury retreat is unfortunately no longer. Poor upkeep of grounds, visible lack of maintenance and general backyard feel is what strikes you when you enter the premises.
The unit’ door didn't latch and had to be locked to keep door closed. Toilet had no cover, extraction fan was filthy, room walls had many very visible cracks and cornices detached from walls.

We stayed in the Rustlamere hotel several times. I understand that the owner passed away and that the hotel suffered a fire. With the Covid lockdown it must have suffered difficulties. Having said that, it is still advertised as a 4-star hotel. Which it definitely is not.
The rooms are clean. But there is no bar fridge as advertised and even after asking several times, we received nothing but excuses such as “the guy who works with that is not here”. The hairdryer was broken. Reception was permanently empty and one was lucky to get somebody to answer the telephone.
The restaurant, operating from a shipping container almost a year after the fire, was extremely expensive and the food of the lowest standard possible. Made without a care, sandwiches without butter, malfa pudding taken from the freezer and put into the microwave was burned and tangy.
The staff was friendly enough but few and far between.
The Rustlamere Hotel used to be very good. At the moment I would not recommend it. It should do as a 2-star hotel judging by its service. The restaurant is a no-go.

Dear Mrs Economakis I am so sorry that we were not able to deliver the level of service that you became accustomed to at Ruslamere. We have always strived to give the best we possibly could to ensure that our guests got the standard of service expected not only of a four star establishment, but also, our own personal touch. My humblest apologies. I will certainly be doing a full investigation with the team to find out where we went wrong, and how we can improve on the new systems we have had to put in place because of resources that have become limited due to covid, to ensure that we get our service back up to where it needs to be. Clearly, it’s not working. Sadly, we have not been able to find a way to man the reception desk 24 hours a day as we did before covid. This is because our occupancy figures have been adversely affected. We certainly tried, and held on to as many of our wonderful staff for as long as we possibly could (some of whom have been with us for over 14 years), but have had to rationalise but strive to provide the same level of service. We believe that people should be free to arrive when it is convenient, and should not be limited to hours convenient to us. We therefore instituted a check-in-on-demand system, whereby guests call us when they arrive and we then check them in. We did have someone wait in reception for you from 3pm until 6pm as your staff did inform us that you would be arriving between 3 and 5pm. My humblest apologies that there was no-one at the desk on your arrival. We have requested our service providers to forward all incoming calls to a cell phone, and it has recently come to our attention that calls are getting dropped. After investigating the problem, we found that not only were some of the calls not coming through, but that the device was faulty, which we are attending to. I did check the whatsapp app, and did not receive any whatsapps from you since the time of your arrival. If you could please forward me a screenshot of the whatsapps you did send, I will follow up with my service provider to make sure this doesn’t happen again. I also have three calls on the company cell logged, one outgoing, two received. Please let me know if there are any other calls that we missed so that I can take that up with my service provider too: Friday 19 March 11:27 am, outgoing, 8:38 pm incoming and 9:12 pm incoming. For me, that you requested a fridge and didn’t get it is just not acceptable. It was requested verbally and in written format. The housekeeper on duty is shattered that the ball was dropped. They did come to deliver the fridge but didn’t want to disturb as you had a do not disturb sign on the door, and neglected to go back later. Once again, our humblest apologies. The menu has changed. Because of the perishable nature of food, have reduced our menu. I did confirm with them the charges relating to your latte, and the photograph of the slip they forwarded to me does not tie up with what you say they charged you. Please could you forward me a photograph of your slip so that I can follow it up with them. I am horrified to hear that you were locked out at night and that you couldn’t get through telephonically. We have a guard on shift from 6pm to 6am. He does on occasion walk around the property to make sure the perimeter is secure. I will certainly be taking this up with the security company. Please accept my humblest and sincerest apologies and thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. I will get back to you as soon as I have more answers from the restaurant owner. Sincerely Gisela Owner
