We went here on our honeymoon. When we arrived it had been raining for a few days. This meant the thatched roofs gave off a musty smell when drying and we found the cottage we stayed in to be dark and a bit dated. The grounds were beautiful but for us the location was a bit quiet. There was an honesty bar but no hotel bar and you could walk in the dark to the other restaurants on the site but it was suggested that we drive there which we didn’t want to do as we both wanted to have a drink. The walk back from the treetop restaurant was very dark and not well signposted. The breakfast was nice and the staff could not have been more helpful but overall we didn’t find there was much atmosphere and for the money we paid we expected our cottage to be much nicer.

This was the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed in (and we have stayed in a few!). The grounds are absolutely stunning, the facilities everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel but its the staff who make the difference. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We loved the character of the country house, so in keeping with the area and its history. We will return in the future, its just such a shame that for us its so far away!

We enjoyed our stay here, despite the lousy weather. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was very nice. We stayed in a bungalow, which we took full advantage of with the rainy weather. We had fires in our fireplace two of the nights we were there, and also had room service so we wouldn’t have to venture out. The bathroom was spacious with a claw foot tub. I didn’t use it, but could imagine using it if we had stayed longer. My only complaint was that the heater in the room didn’t work well, but they did put hot water bottles in our bed each night. There were other nice touches like a poem placed on the bed each night, and a sweet placed under a bell jar on each side of the bed. The breakfasts were very good, and included a buffet as well as hot breakfasts. The grounds were lovely, and the restaurants on the property were very good. Again, my only complaint was that the dining rooms were too chilly.

This wasn't the best room we stayed in in South Africa nor was the restaurant the best. However the two together make this the best place we stayed. The hotel is in a beautiful private garden, very peaceful and secluded. The room we have was very nice without being anything spectacular. The restaurant was excellent, very refined preparation of local ingredients such as Springbok, which we had and was excellent. Service superb as well, as so often in South Africa. Location is ideal with Knysna and Plettenburg quite close.

This guest house us like staying in a perfect National Trust property, the gardens and pool area are stunning and immaculately maintained. The main building with reception rooms and dining area are so warm and comfortable. The accommodation ranges from individual thatched cottages to smaller rooms with en suite which is what we had, with a little private seating area to sit out. The room was lovely and comfortable as was the bathroom. Our reception on arrival was warm and friendly with a choice of a glass of champagne or sparkling water then when we were shown to our room there was a complimentary bottle of wine and also the first drink from our fridge was complimentary too. The 2 restaurants on the site were both really nice although we preferred the Sage Restaurant, but it is just a matter of taste. Both were very reasonably priced. Breakfast was lovely too with a small continental selection and the choice of something from the kitchen. An excellent stay and so handy for all the things around Plettenberg Bay, the entrance is opposite the entrance to Knysna Elephant Sanctuary (well worth a visit)

We had booked a meal only at the restaurant after visiting Plett for 7 yrs ! .and why had we left it sooo long ?? Alittle unsure driving down the rough road but you can go only do far before you’re greeted by some automated gates and a little bit of paradise! Parked up and walked into the house/recess and we weren’t disappointed!! Beautiful in all aspects decor tables other eating and seating areas what a place … Service was prompt and excellent the food was brilliant we think the best so far in 5 weeks here in SA. I’ll finish on the menu and food shots … great value too👌❤️

We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay at Hunters Country Lodge, and we were looked after very well. As a honeymoon couple, they went above and beyond to ensure our stay was beautiful and memorable. We really appreciated the extra touches made to help us celebrate. We had beautiful meals at both Sage and Zinzi’s, and we even cancelled reservations elsewhere so we could eat at Zinzi again. The food and wine pairings were delicious, and everyone was so warm, welcoming and friendly. We had a beautiful large lodge which was tastefully decorated, and very clean. It had a lovely outdoor area where we could enjoy a glass of wine and read our books whilst the resident deer strolled past us. Thank you for a wonderful stay, and for going above and beyond to make it such a special experience for our honeymoon.

A spectacular property with relaxed service and ambience. We fortunate enough to receive an upgrade on our booking and enjoyed a luxurious suite with our own private pool and patio, surround by the most beautiful gardens. On our first evening we dined at Tsala Treetop's restaurant, which was an absolute highlight! Our server Pandora was superb and made the experience even more memorable. Sadly a mishap of service and food on our second night at Sage was a bit of disappointment, but management took our feedback to heart and we didn't let one incident impact an otherwise lovely experience.

This place competes with some of the best hotels in the world due to its small personal touches. Lovely grounds and room felt very private. Welcome: Excellent welcome by reception and manager / owner. Were given a glass of bubbly and sat near the library while bags were taken to the room. Room: Lovely room, with a bottle of wine and handwritten note to welcome us. Super comfy bed. Two chairs. Excellent modern bathroom with everything you needed. Nice touches: Underfloor heating under carpet when entering the room. Food: Excellent. We ate at the restaurant without booking and the chef put together a 3 course vegan and gluten free menu for us at the last minute with 3 options for each course. Breakfast. A very special vegan cheese platter and gluten free bread. The vegan cheeses and butter were some of the best we have ever had! Would stay again, only next time for longer.

We were here for two nights. It was relatively quite as it was the start of the season and South Africa is recovering from Covid.. Nice room and beautiful gardens, gym and pool area. Breakfast offering was good with a mixture of continental style and cooked food. As it wasn't busy this was brought to you. We ate in the restaurant one night and really enjoyed our meal in rather posh and luxurious surroundings. Staff very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
