a lovely spontaneous weekend away booked at short notice. Nog n gelukkie was spacious with a clean, unobtrustive/relaxing aesthetic. High degree of privacy with a private entrance and stoep (perfect for a continental breakfast), although the outside braai area belonging to the unit does open into the beautiful central garden.

best couch (I now know what to look for in the future) in front of the inside fireplace, microwave, fridge, gas stove/oven with stovetop kettle, french press, very lovely bath + shower w as assortment of towels, very good mattress (you will sleep late) with bed warmer . Wifi handled video streaming just fine. 1 bag wood and firelighters provided + complementary tea/coffee/sugar.

Appreciate the green power and water heating!

Only contact was sorting out the key - so not completely contactless, but definitely friendly, hassle-free and unobtrusive.

Only a 4/5 due to a couple of convenience/nonessential niggles. Would have loved to stay longer, and overall atmosphere was one of luxury and peace.

My husband and I stayed at Gelukkie.
The host Andrew and his wife are such warm and lovely people. From the start they made us feel welcomed. Loved the attention to detail in the room, swimming pool and daybed, I even had an iron and ironing board ready, (how did they know) 😉as we were travelling from the Eastern Cape to the Western Cape for a wedding. The food was exceptional. I would definitely go and stay there again.

The rustic-chic look belies the tangible luxury and hand chosen quality. This all in a spacious and pristine environment. With owls in the trees, guinea-fowl scratching beneath the bushes and even a turtle or two ambling about, one is treated with the views the only the rough and hard West Coast can bring. Outside, the fenced in garden protects from the sniping winds and one can lay the day away on the sun bed, have a fire roaring in the fire pit, sear some Namakwa lamb on the built in braai, or even just warm up with a glass of wine in front of the spacious indoor fire place. This is the peace for the soul that anyone can appreciate.

Gelukkie is nestled just a stone throw outside town which makes it a quieter place during holiday season. The Paternoster Brewery, for delectable food and craft beer, is just up the road, and the Express Shop, for groceries, wood and fuel is just around the corner.

All in all, this is a gem of a place and going through the visitors book will tell you that it is a very special haven to all who visit. Go visit, you might even find out that the town of Paternoster is close by...

Think twice when visiting this place, it's just OK as a place, not close to the beach and there are many better places in Paternoster than this one which will be close to the beach and offer a lot of privacy also, I discovered that after driving within the small town.
The host Andrew left a rude feedback on Airbnb complaining about stupid dirty dishes I left in his place. It was 4-5 dishes left out of one brai as I was eating out most of time, as if we as guests are responsible to clean dishes in a self-catering places that we visit, can you imagine!.
Check how rude he is here:
"Although the guests were polite and non-intrusive, they left such a mess in our cottage. I have never seen so many dishes in all my life! The utter disregard and lack of consideration for our cottage was so disappointing and we will certainly never be welcoming these guests back again."
So with this attitude be careful to deal with the host, their requirement is to clean the place after you otherwise they won't host you again.

Response from Cindy Clokie, Agency / Consultant at Gelukkie

As one reading this review hopefully will realise, there are two sides to this story. This guest was an Airbnb guest who wrote a lovely review about our cottage but obviously was insulted by our truthful review on his misuse of the cottage. Hence he has taken on the task of badmouthing us on all possible platforms. We just want to say that we certainly don't expect our guests to leave the place as they found it as of course we clean it ourselves thoroughly between visitors but what this guest left for us to deal with was unacceptable. I hope the readers of such a review can appreciate it as one-sided. Thank you.

Our stay in Klein Gelukkie was one of the best during this trip to South Africa.
Accomodation was great, we loved it. Service and personal attention was beyond imagination especially when my wife was ill.
Thanks Andrew

if you want to get away from it all this is the location. Walk on the beach, eat great seafood or just stay a the cottage and enjoy nature in a peaceful environment. Sit on the veranda, relax on the day bed, watch the tortoise wander around the garden, the occasional antelope in the veld and the two massive owls that next at the corner of the garden. Great circuit and a safe place to run in the morning. I suggest that you stock up with whatever food and refreshments you need and just chill out for a few days.

Delightful stay at Nog n’Gelukkie, which was very comfortable and relaxing.
Spotlessly clean and well furnished, with a large sheltered courtyard that contains a day bed and stone fire pit. There’s also a plunge pool on the stoep.
Within walking distance of the village, it’s far enough away to be peaceful and isolated enough to enjoy the night sky. All in all, a great place to stay, unwind and relax.

Although not on the beach this turned out to be the perfect location. Quiet, peaceful and away from the cool evening breezes but 2 minutes from everything in Paternoster. Our cottage was absolutely stunning. The interior decor and the layout is wonderful. The outside is not forgotten and has outdoor furniture and an amazing swinging daybed which was such wonderful place to relax and snooze! The indoor fireplace was perfect for the cool evenings and the outside braai area was well placed along with comfortable outdoor cane chairs. Our hosts were wonderful. Very friendly and knowledgeable but also gave us our privacy. A wonderful find! We will most certainly be back.

We were disappointed as the property (klein gelukkie) was cold and a little damp. Living off grid plus load shedding has its drawbacks ultimately. We were there in early October so perhaps a little early in season mind you. The main area of the property seems better maintained than this actual apartment where the outdoor space was not really useable for us. Also we had hoped that we could walk to town or the beach from the apartment but we did not feel safe in this area to do so. This is probably an SA problem in general as well as in some parts of Paternoster. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming and the property is generally peaceful despite some dog barking at times during our stay.
We cut short our stay for reasons given and found very nice place on the beach for same price.

Nog 'n Gelukkie is the perfect little couples getaway. A cosy little space thoughtfully put together, just a few minutes from Paternoster and the beach.
The outdoor hanging daybed was what caught my eye first, then the fact that it has another daybed inside right in front of the fireplace was the clincher.
We will absolutely be back.
