This charming thatched guest house is situated 200m from the beach in the quaint West Coast village of Paternoster, an easy 90 minute drive from Cape Town. Uninterrupted views of the ocean can be enjoyed from two of the intimate guest suites and from the superbly positioned breakfast dining area. The third suite has a delightful garden view and is priced accordingly. Gilcrest Place has one of the best rated locations in paternoster! Couples particularly like the location, they rated it 9.7 on Trip Advisor for a two person trip. Read our reviews on Trip Advisor. Some of the attractions are as follows; The Cape Columbine Nature Reserve, with the only manually controlled lighthouse in SA and a desirable camping and fishing spot, Tieties Bay. Whales and Dolphins can frequently be seen beyond the breakers from the breakfast room. Seals and Penguins are regular visitors to the large boulders along the coastline. Prolific bird life makes this a bird watchers paradise. We even have a few beauties that come to feed in our garden. Wine tasting at many wineries in the area. Beer tasting at the local brewery The Art Shed at the Paternoster Waterfront is filled to the brim with lovely oil paintings leather work, pottery and jewellery. Our village residents are very talented. Fine local restaurants – are a foodies delight. Rock lobster is a local delicacy as well as bokkoms and our very own World acclaimed restaurant – Wolfgat. Many of their clientele stay at Gilcrest Place. Sporting activities on offer include kite surfing, snorkelling, kayaking, horse riding, electric bike tours and guided nature walks. Namaqualand – see the barren landscape transform during spring (Aug/Sept) into a carpet of colourful flowers stretching as far as the eye can see. Last must not least enjoy a leisurely walk on the many tranquil beaches and if you’re brave enough dip in the ocean on a hot summer’s day! Assistance with dinner bookings and excursions can be organised by arrangement with your friendly hosts Dee and Andy Accommodation at Gilcrest Place There are three different suites to choose from at Gilcrest Place, each with its own stylish and unique decor. A truly wonderful holiday at Gilcrest Place . We would definitely go back. Dee and Andy were exceptionally gracious hosts who made our stay relaxed and comfortable with great attention to detail. If you want a place to stay with magnificent views and warm and friendly company- Gilcrest Place should be your first choice. Thank you Dee and Andy for making our first trip to Paternoster a holiday to remember.

With 378 excellent reviews at the time of this writing, I was in doubt as to whether I should add yet another excellent review.

But Gilcrest Place Guest House certainly deserves another as it’s not often that one finds - in a beautiful appointed and wonderfully equipped guest room - a Nespresso machine with pods… along with every other Five star accoutrements… the TV… the fridges, teas and coffees, complementary sherry etc etc, all with delicious breakfasts, fresh flowers on the tables. great views, and an excellent location close to the beach.

The charming hosts, Dee and Andy, were attentive but discrete. Do take one of the rooms with a clear sea view and balcony. You won't regret it!

Our first visit to Paternoster was made special by the experience we had at Gilcrest Place. The owners Andy and Dee made us feel very welcome. We rented all three rooms for our stay and was treated to Dee's daily variety of bread at breakfast (she shared a recipe with us!). On Andy's recommendation we took a short drive to Britannia bay and had great fun.

My first visit to Paternoster was made special by the hospitality and comfort offered at this lovely guest house. It's perfectly located with secluded beaches just a few minutes away. Dee and Andy are friendly and helpful hosts who really care about the servie they provide. The spacious accommodation is tastefully and originally decorated and my day began with a delicious healthy home-made breakfast overlooking the ocean. Plus it's close to one of the best restaurants in the village. I will definitely be back.

Arriving late afternoon, I was just in time to experience the breathtakingly beautiful sunset from my room. The room was most comfortable and clean, and the linen crisp and fresh. The bathroom is absolutely stunning and can be covered in any magazine! Shells and lavender petals carry the personal touch of the host in this charming room. I highly recommend Gilcrest Place in Paternoster!

We ended our 2 week holiday in paternoster before heading back to Namibia. We had not made a reservation anywhere but when we rang the doorbell at Gilcrest place, Dee welcomed us like long lost friends! “Yes of course she had a room to spare with a seaview”.. and could offer us the honeymoon suite for our 2nd night!
The location is quiet but safe, very close to the beach and the whole guesthouse is filled with Dee’s artistic flair… from her canvas paintings to mosaic decorated mirrors and tables…. and the stylish furnishings….
Clean, comfortable, including a wholesome breakfast…. Definitely a reason to return… highly recommended

Dee and Andy at Gilcrest Place gave us, and our dog, a most friendly welcome. Our room upstairs had a lovely sheltered terrace with gorgeous sea view, just perfect for enjoying Dee’s delicious picnic suppers. The creative breakfasts were equally good. Our room was compact but the great attention to detail ensured we had everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable two nights.

What a find! We loved Paternoster and, part of the reason for it, was because of this lovely accommodation. My daughters stayed in the rear room - it has its own veranda, hanging chair and view of the sea. Ha, but they couldn't see the sea while lying in bed! We could, from the quirky room at the front. Dressing area, bonkers bathroom with a unique (pleasantly so) shower and large comfortable bedroom with windows which open through the thatched roof and large double doors opening onto a small veranda. Fantastic views of he sea.

Breakfasts were great, hosts were super! If you are planning a trip to Paternoster, plan Gilcrest Place into it.

I booked directly with Dee for the Valentines weekend and i must say from our arrival to check-out we received the most professional service possible. The room was spotless and all we needed was supplied in the room. Gilcrest place is also Pet friendly which is a huge bonus(It was the only Pet Friendly Guest House i could find in Paternoster).I was even assisted by Andy when i got (Stupidly) stuck in the sand close to the beach(Thank You Andy!!!)
And to Top it all we have an amazing breakfast as part of the deal.
Definately will be back again

I was treated to a 5 star stay at Gilcrest Place and enjoyed Dee and Andy's warm hospitality, The breakfasts were delicious and healthy, served in the most delightful breakfast room complete with stunning seaviews and busy birds in the lovely garden. The bedroom was luxurious with exquisite vistas and the bathroom was fabulous. Enjoyed sundowners on the balcony, watching whales and dolphins. There is no shortage of good restaurants in the area - seafood on the beach - fish and chips, crayfish, prawns, pizzas, steaks and more. Beautiful beaches, walks, drives and of course the Tittiesbaail sanctuary - a treasure.
