Beautiful, small hotel with lovely rooms and views of the ocean. Sit in the rooftop spa and enjoy, can't beat this anywhere. Lots of personality and amazing brunch. Great location and kind service. Go for it!
We have 6 nights in villa 1. It is not opulent or 5 stars as advertised. It is as described in a review in feb 2021 tired. There is no valet parking or butler service as advertised. The hotel where we checked in were not helpful gave us little information and we drove around the town looking for it. The tourists information office didn’t know where it was either. It was advertised as sensational breakfast being delivered to our villa each morning. They couldn’t provide it as had “ no transport “. The place is tired and dirty. The pool should be infinity but it isn’t working. The water was cloudy on arrival and hasn’t sparkled since we arrived. The outside furniture was wet through and it took us 2 days of keeping the cushions in the sunshine to dry sufficiently for us to use it. We didn’t get cleaning service and when we asked at reception we were told we had to request it. There is no information in the room. The contact telephone to the hotel doesn’t work. The worst thing was that when we returned one evening the front door electric key system failed and we couldn’t get in. There was no reply when we telephoned the hotel. We walked up to it at 10pm everything was locked. There was no way of entering it. There was an emergency no which went through to an answer machine without any response. We thought we would be spending the night on the street. We eventually found someone on the street who knew where an employee lived. We woke her up and she and her husband effectively “broke in”. When someone came the next morning to fix it we discovered that the problem was that it only worked if there was a twig jammed in the door lock and it had fallen out. The repair was to put another twig in. Obviously this can happen at any time. Non of the doors fit properly. There isn’t a “state of the art” kitchen. It’s adequate but tired. Kitchen linen isn’t supplied. There is no management keeping an eye on anything. The position is good and the view is nice. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE TOWN. THERE ARE PLENTY PLACES ON THE BEACH FRONT.…
Stayed for 2 nights. Well located but not on the sea front. The pool area is wedged into a central courtyard and very cramped. The decking on the steps to our upstairs room was damaged and there were a few maintenance issues in our room (shutters needed attention, patio door didn’t open smoothly, shower doors leaked). There was also a ‘resident’ pigeon on one of the balconies off our room and the mess on the patio and the railings was appalling.
I made a big mistake booking Abalone’s overpriced “luxury” rooms. Next time I’ll rather book an entire house of which there are many in Paternoster. Only plus is that dogs are allowed at Abalone - even in the pools! Paid same price for 2 very different rooms. One bedroom had no balcony, no bath, no wardrobe, no single bed. Yet we were charged R2,519.20 each for both rooms. You can get a whole house for less than that. Shutters falling off track, bathroom sliding door jammed, no sanitisers, paint stains all over the place, synthetic linen, sauna not working - list goes on. Very misleading advertising. More 2-star with 5-star pricing! Rashid
We absolutely LOVED our time at Abalone Villa -- with our own little pool, a beautiful view, great funky decor which was creative and comfortable but not opulent. It was a mix between rustic and luxurious. The highlight was the amazing staff who helped us with my aged father in a wheelchair who could not make it up to the restaurant, with COVID limitations too. They were incredibly service-oriented, kind, nothing was too much effort. They came to fix a door that got stuck and brought us breakfast and treated us like gold. We felt spoilt and had the most perfect weekend. Thank you Abalone team!
