We stayed here for a 2-night stay and although our room did not have an ocean view, it was large, comfy and well decorated. The only room with a sea view is on the upper terrace and the price was over the top for what it was. The hotel is really charming, with a great location and walking distance down to the most beautiful beach, but the problem is the staff. The pool area, which is really not a pool, is dirty with bird poop on the deck and everywhere as well as on the cushions of the seating in that courtyard. Not inviting at all. The safe is our room was not working, and had to be fixed. the bar service is non-existant. We only had 1 bathrobe and 1 set of slippers for the 2 of us. I kindly mentioned to the day manager a few of the problems I noted, and he was thankful to hear our comments and suggestions, and wrote them all down to them discuss with the responsibile person for the staff and rooms, who obviously does not do her job well. To compensate for all this the morning breakfast was fantastic! We did not have dinner ther during our stay but I am sure the food was excellent, after speaking with other guests.

A really lovely, small hotel with a great welcome. It’s only a few minutes walk into the village and less to one of the best beaches you could wish for.
Rooms with a sea view might cost a bit more but , certainly in our case, are worth every penny.
Had only booked to eat dinner there on our first night( there seems to be good restaurants in the village) but we liked the food and service so much we ate there on all 3 nights of our stay.

We absolutely LOVED our time at Abalone Villa -- with our own little pool, a beautiful view, great funky decor which was creative and comfortable but not opulent. It was a mix between rustic and luxurious. The highlight was the amazing staff who helped us with my aged father in a wheelchair who could not make it up to the restaurant, with COVID limitations too. They were incredibly service-oriented, kind, nothing was too much effort. They came to fix a door that got stuck and brought us breakfast and treated us like gold. We felt spoilt and had the most perfect weekend. Thank you Abalone team!

Considering the price we paid (unfortunately visited during peak time) the quality of the hotel was definitely not reflective of what we paid.
The rooms and furnishings were very run down, the bath mats and towels were frayed, the mattress had a serious dip in it and the table clothes were stained.
The noise came from the weaver birds in the tree in the courtyard where our room faced into. The sound, and the smell, that came into the room throughout the night was horrendous and menu we were both awake all night. The “pool” is also below the nest and is therefore more of a pond than a swimming pool.
Again given the supposed 5 star rating the breakfast was very disappointing.

We spent 3 days at Abalone House in early January.
The rooms are warmly decorated but a bit tired. Our stay included a full breakfast, however the service was disinterested and slow (I’m being kind). My breakfast on day 1 included a hopelessly stale English muffin - which put us off eating there again. Great position and polite staff, but I’m sure you can do better for the price.

Unfortunately the place was in need of a good clean.
At a glance interesting furnishings but once you are all checked in the dirt and dust is off putting.
Hundreds of We ever birds have built nests over the pool and seating areas.
Very cute but unfortunately bird poo, feathers and flees not hygienic.

Litteraly bird poo everywhere.
We were not comfortable with it.
To much maintenance and not enough hands on staff.

Rms are full of unnecessary clutter.
Old leather bags unnecessary.

No soap in the rooms.
Hand filled containers of shampoo and conditioner used by previous guests not my thing.

The breakfast was very good but no fruit unfortunately.

There was no excuse the place was fairly full.
Only views from upstairs room.
Rest of rooms are very dark and over look a bird poo yard.

If you are going to fill the place with clutter it needs to be well kept unfortunately this place lacks good management's and cleaning staff that can deal with little details of comfort and cleanliness.

We take note of your comments and will discuss your concerns with management. We understand that our style of decor may not be to everybody's taste. We correctly only have sea views from our Superior Seaview Suite as advertised online. We have a tree in our courtyard that has become home to several birds who nest there. We understand that they can be messy and have placed signage here to inform guests of this. We our best to clean this area up regularly. We're pleased you enjoyed our breakfast.

We had an enjoyable 4 night stay in Luxury Room 11 upstairs. The room was bright and comfortable with a nice bathroom with separate walk in shower, twin sinks and a lovely bath tub. The only disadvantage is there are no lifts so it is a bit of a hike up and down the steep stairs to get to the room each time.
There are two small pool areas which were enjoyable and plenty of free parking at the front of the hotel. Overall the place is very clean and staff are friendly.
We had breakfast each day but options are a bit limited and highly "egg dependent" with few cold options.
We also had dinner one night, it is no longer affiliated to Ruben Rieffel and the meal was a little pedestrian - there are much better eating options ion Paternoster and a better chef would certainly lift the place.

Stayed for 2 nights. Well located but not on the sea front. The pool area is wedged into a central courtyard and very cramped. The decking on the steps to our upstairs room was damaged and there were a few maintenance issues in our room (shutters needed attention, patio door didn’t open smoothly, shower doors leaked). There was also a ‘resident’ pigeon on one of the balconies off our room and the mess on the patio and the railings was appalling.

Booked for luxury room over 2 months in advance, but fobbed off with standard room at check
in. Not satisfied with explanation.
Only seating in room was the bed. Tiny bathroom with wash basins in the bedroom.
Luxury room amenities such as bath robes etc not provided until requested.
A great disappointment.
We should be compensated the difference between the luxury and standard room rates for the six nights.
The embarrassed GM who has to report to the owners in The Netherlands did offer a free meal on one night to try and make up for a massive inconvenience.
A real bait and switch as pictures on website are not the same as what is provided.

Beautiful property overlooking the ocean with a short walk down to the beach. We stayed in a beautiful loft style bedroom that was spacious with high quality amenities including robes. The bed and linens were comfortable and the room quiet. The pools are lovely and peaceful, offering a refreshing dip in the heat. The restaurant was excellent with good service. We ate dinner on the patio, watching the sun set. A fantastic night’s stay.

Do you allow children (mine are 3 and 9)?

Dear guest, unfortunately our children policy only allows children ages 12 and older. We can gladly recommend one of our sibling self-catering units in Paternoster, of which the Oppidraai and Seaside Cottages are fantastic choices. Feel free to contact us to make our reservation.
