Visited in June on all inclusive basis, this hotel was very good. Staff were attentive and able to speak good English (better than my Portugese !). The food was good with some variety and there were a couple of themed evenings. Most drinks available but only one variety of beer on the all inclusive menu as far as we could see. Entertainment was average to good and passed the time away on the evenings there was something on. Not so sure about a couple of them which were basically glorified Karaoke. The traditional Madeiran Dance group were good but could have done with some explanation about the dances, particularly as there was audience participation. Rooms were clean and comfortable, with TV/ Air conditioning but no coffee/tea making facilities. Bathroom was good with shower over bath. Pool area was clean with plenty of sun loungers, it was relatively quiet when we were there and may be a lot more crowded in high season. Spa and indoor pool were excellent. Hotel is close to the airport, we did not realise how close until planes landed and/or took off. However, the number of flights when we were there was limited and they did not disturb you too much. Took advantage of the free mini bus to Funchal, advise to plan and book this early. Worth the trip. Overall we had a really pleasant stay and would return.…
A very pretty small resort. We felt that Funchal would be a bit to big and busy for us. Our first thoughts on arrival we thought it maybe a little too small but the place grew on us with a choice of charming restaurants and very friendly local people. It is very close to the airport so the planes are very low and there is a lot of aircraft noice but we didn’t mind this and quite enjoyed watching the planes come in. We did go into Funchal one day and decided that it was too big and busy for us. We hired a car a blitzed the beautiful island in two days. We also took a boat trip which we saw the dolphins, whales and sharks. To conclude we found the right place to explore this beautiful island from.…
My husband and I have recently returned from a stay at this hotel and consider it worthy of leaving a good review. It is well located ,3 mins from the bus stop. A short transference from the airport ( but we were not inconvenienced by any air traffic noise) The hotel is nicely finished. Very clean. Our room was spacious. The breakfast was good and the hotel was well equipped to offer guests a pleasant experience during their stay. But the very best aspect of the hotel was the staff. The cleaners, kitchen staff and reception staff were all outstanding. I feel that one member of staff was exceptional ; he was not just good at his job, but he went ‘above and beyond ‘ to ensure that guests had a first class experience. Sean is not only a credit to the hotel but to the island itself, as he is very knowledgeable of Madeira and both conscientious and professional. Well done Sean and all the staff at the Santa Cruz village hotel. …
We love it here. We first discovered it when our taxi driver took us on a tour on our way back to the airport a few years ago, as he lived there! It is a place that is overlooked by the majority of visitors, as most people hop on a transfer from the airport and go to the Funchal area. It is very quaint and pretty with lots of decent restaurants and bars, plus a market. The best thing about it is however, is that you can stand on the beach and watch the aeroplanes coming in to land only a few hundred feet from the sea as the airport is next door! As we are nerdy aircraft freaks, we got on a bus from Funchal and 35 minutes later, were watching the jets flying in. Best to go on a Monday when the airport is at it's busiest. Standing there in the hot sunshine, in a lovely seaside village - what more could you want?! Recommended if you've the time to do it.…
Some of the reviews are of the town. At least one is about one of the three hotels that do exist. The ones which refer to surfing or sandy beaches cannot be about Madeira. It's a wonderful island as are it's inhabitants but don't visit for long beaches or surfing.
