From the moment you arrive, Darrin and Sharron the owners, make you most welcome. The lodge is an oasis in the middle of the bush. The accommodation is first class, the food is excellent and the nature drives entertaining. There are no large predators on the reserve but there are many other interesting species, including "frankie" the crocodile. After being on safari this was was a excellent place to wind down and just enjoy the peace and tranquility and the large night sky. Thanks again for the Birthday cake.
Although it took a bit of time finding the location of Suricata Retreat we were guided in by the owners and arrived at a very pleasant resort in the Tuli Block. We were well looked after by the owners Sharon and her husband. After a welcome drink we retreated to our stand alone cottages where the facilities were first class. The evening meal was a traditional braai with all the tasty trimmings. It was very pleasant talking to all the guests over dinner . After dinner a pleasant evening in the bar was most welcome. My son ended up donating his blue happy socks which caught the eye of the owners.A full botswana breakfast was enjoyed the next morning with lovely boerewors.
We had read nice things about Suricata Retreat, but this experience was way more than we expected. Younger generation was now away, but Trevor was there for us. From the moment we met by roadside (he guiding us last kilometres) those three days were full of nice activies and interesting conversations about nature, farming, weather and climate as so many other aspects of life. Staff was very friendly and we met also other guests from Eastern Cape, who had very own program on daylight as they were really experienced visitors here. Warthogs, baby zebra, visits to Limpopo river (sad sight without water) and surrounding areas were big moments. Combined with excellent food and wines, reasonable prices and all learning experiences, this was one of the greatest accomodations ever. Just some issues with hot water couple of times - but there is nice pool, too. If you are going around western Limpopo, we recommend you cross the border to Botswana to see and feel Suricata Retreat.…
Our week at Suricata was one of the best weeks of our lives. The family friendly experience was so much better than the big game resort as everything was more relaxed and personable. The accommodations were perfect -Queen size bed with our own outside shower. We have a soaking tub in our bathroom too. The food was 5 stars. Each night seem to be better than the night before. I am not sure which game meat I liked the most. The game drives where personal and unique to us, from fishing in the river with the hippopotamus to seeing the baby giraffe. We can't wait to go again.
Staying at Suricata is like traveling with your best friends. Unlike the big game resorts, they really give you the personal touch. From the moment you arrive, the owners, Darrin/Sharron, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel like family. We really enjoyed the morning visits by the hilarious warthogs, fishing with Harry the Hippo and watching Frank the crocodile search for food. Game drives were flexible and always interesting with a variety of wildlife to see. The food was excellent and plentiful. We really enjoyed making our own pizzas at their outdoor pizza oven. Each evening was spent sitting around a cozy fire chatting about the days exciting experiences. Our room was spacious and comfortable with every possible amenity. We can not wait to go back!
My wife, Lynne, & I have just spent an unforgettable weekend @ Suricata. The hosts, Sharon & Darrin Frost were extremely friendly& helpful, as were all the staff. The room we stayed in was clean & comfortable.& well stocked with everything you need. The food was excellent but breakfast & lunch more so as the wildlife came during the day to feed & drink from the lake just a few meters away. The bush was thick, green & lush but wildlife was abundant for those with keen eyes. Hopefully we will get to return as it really magic. John & Lynne
Having been built from scratch by the owners, Darrin and Sharon have an extremely special resort. The lodge and accommodation is most comfortable and in many ways unique in design. Lovely small dams situated within a stones throw of the Lapa that are not only pleasing to the eye, but also essential for attracting the game. Nice swimming pool to cool off in summer months. Boma area outstanding including a Pizza Oven. Paved walkways to each room with night lights. Bird life incredible with resident Grey Herron, Yellow Bill stork competing for fish in the dams. A special treat is having early morning coffee in the Lapa watching warthogs (Sometimes up to 40 at a time) being fed. Arizona the hosts adjoining farm boasts one of the largest privately owned dams in Botswana. The fishing is good with an abundance of bird life difficult to beat anywhere. The lodge, the comfortable four tented bush camp and all water boreholes are completely solar powered using no external power what so ever. Would I put this on my bucket list for future trips? ABSOLUTELY…
What a wonderful tranquil place this is. The hosts , Darrin and Sharon, are 1 in a million. Nothing is too much trouble. Accommodation is very good and meals excellent. The staff were equally friendly and efficient. Game drives and dam fishing trips all inclusive. This is the place for a peaceful get away where your every wish is taken care of.
