In the historic center of Oropesa del Mar, in Castellon, you can find Casa Arizo, a charming, Valencian modernist style house built in 1911, which was carefully restored in 2009 respecting the most decorative and architectural values of the time. The house was built by D. Jose Rivera Forner, administrator of the Counts of Cervellon, Lords of Oropesa. The owners were Carmen Rivera Llorens, daughter of D. Jose Rivera, and Juan Arizo Olmos, a reputable doctor, born in Valencia. Juan Arizo chose the name after the Spanish Nobel Prize in Medicine laureate. The house has an inscription on the front with the initials JR (Jose Rivera) and the year in which it was built (1911). Casa Arizo is framed within a cultural tourist route created by the municipality of Oropesa del Mar. In this route, the visitor can find 12 emblematic buildings in the town. Casa Arizo is a charming tourist accommodation, centrally situated in a quiet area only 1200 meters from the beach and close to the most important places. The whole house has been decorated with furniture that combines both the shapes and colours of the modernist Valencian style with functional and technological needs of today. Casa Arizo can accommodate 12 persons distributed in 4 double rooms, 2 suites and 2 family suites. The careful attention provided by all the staff at Casa Arizo, and the design of rooms and spaces take visitors away from the traditional hotel concept, and surround them in a new style of service and hospitality. Casa Arizo is located in a strategic location near the most important communication points and close to almost everywhere: 8 minutes from FIB, 10 minutes from the Harley-Davidson annual meeting, 34 minutes from Peniscola and its Jazz and Cinema festivals, 5 minutes from the yachting harbour...

Renovated 1911 house decorated with period furniture, tastefully. The care of Asun and Carlos is excellent, with recommendations and great care. Very abundant and complete breakfast. Honest bar and free hours. The room very spacious and with all amenities. In the historic center of Oropesa, overlooking the castle, in a quiet pedestrian street.

The Arizo family takes excellent care of their guests in a hotel that was once their family home in this lovely seaside town. The hotel is in the old part of town but has six luxurious remodelled rooms. . The entrance to the hotel is the former carriage house that retains its historic quaintness with beautiful family heirlooms.. A wide variety of artesenal locally-made drinks are served at tables on the historic street.. Juan, Carlos, Mariola, and Asun are fabulous hosts and make their foreign and Spanish guests feel at home. This was one of my best hotel stays ever.

My review can be broken down into three parts: The Service, The Community, and The B & B Facility.
The service was outstanding. Carlos and his wife does everything possible to accommodate you and the quality of your stay. They readily provide tips on restaurants and things to do in the area. Free Grande bottle of water provided each day upon request and Carlos was kind enough to provide beach umbrella for daily beach trip. Breakfast is provided daily at approximately 9A, and it is served with a smile. Typically includes cereal, sliced Jamon (and other fresh meats) and cheese, OJ, fresh fruit, toast/rolls with butter and selection of jams) and coffee of your choice.
They usually leave the facility in late evening so there is no attendant on-site at night, but there are keys provided to guests to enter/exit the facility after hours.
The Community is a small laid-back Spanish beach town, with two great beaches (both pretty crowded during my visit with quite warm temps), and lots of typical restaurants and bars, most of which offer an array tapas and pizza. It is really nice to sit at shaded outdoor seating immediately adjacent to the beach while enjoying a sangria or other drink of choice. Other than beaches and restaurants, really not much doing, however, lovely Valencia is only 50-60km West.
The B & B is charming and rustic. It is a nicely restored and renovated Spanish home that has been turned into an interesting and very clean and lovingly cared for B & B. There are three floors to the house: first floor is public area, office and kitchen and includes a thatched roof outdoor seating area where guests can have breakfast or sit and chat in the evenings, and a multiple sat lounge area for reading and relaxing. The facility provides free WiFi, which works well on the first floor, not sure about the 2nd floor, but 3rd floor WiFi was sporadic to non-existent. There are a total of six guest rooms, all of which are air conditioned; 3 on the second floor (22 steps up); and 3 more rooms on the 3rd floor (an additional 19 steps up). There is no lift, for those adverse to stair-climbing. I did not see or experience the 2nd floor rooms, or the other two rooms on the 3rd floor, so will limit my comments, specifically to room 23 on the 3rd floor. A couple of words of caution, be careful of ceiling heights at the top of 3rd floor stairs; If you are taller than 5'7" there is head bump hazard! Room 23 is actually 3 rooms in one... the bedroom is about 12'x10' with a large bed (king-size?), a small attached shower and toilet area, and a dual sink area with mirror for grooming. The bedroom area has roof beams that descend rapidly from the door side of the room to the small window side to a height of about 5 feet...again there is a head bump hazard for those in the room on the right side of the bed who are taller than 5 feet tall. The shower is clean and modern but TINY. The maximum entrance width to the shower is about 16 inches created by sliding glass doors to maximum opening. The shower dimension is about 24"x24"... VERY TINY and difficult to shower comfortably. Rooms are cleaned daily and nicely maintained.

A fabulously restored home that has maintained the original character and ambiance of the family's history in this sea side town.
All the mod cons make for a very enjoyable stay along with the friendly hospitality shown by Carlos and Juan.
A tasty Spanish breakfast and excellent coffee made by Carlos ensures a great start to the day.

Fabulous location - easy to get to shops and beach... Lovely hosts; Carlos, Ashun and Juan accommodated our late-in-the-day cleaning needs due the fact that we got home late from a music festival (so slept late the next day). Great that the hosts were also a 'taxi-service'. The offer of free fruit and cold bottled water was much appreciated. So lovely that the building had a family history; modernized but hadn't lost the authenticity of the building.

As we arrived late I was worried we had inconvenienced Juan and Carlos. To the contrary. Carlos had waited patiently with a warm welcome.
This is a lovely typical Spanish family home. With a boutique style ambiance. A continental breakfast with plenty to eat..Coffee at the ready and even served as late as 10.30..fantastic as didn't have to rush for breakfast. Air con fantastic.
Shower always hot and Olga will make sure your room is spotless
Everyone is very friendly and Carlos and his wife will go the extra mile for you.
It is situated near the old Town steeped in History.
Seems we found a real gem of a place.

We were welcomed back to Casa Arizo by Carlos, Asun and Juan like old friends. Carlos even collected us from the station in Benicassim, free of charge! We stayed a week, whislt the music festival wason and Carlos gave us a lift to the festival each night - again free of charge! Not many hotels offer that kind of service. We had room 12on the first floor and it was lovely,a king sized bed, lovely bathroom. Juan booked us tables at a restaurant in Oropesa on a couple of nights, but not only that, he also rang a restaurant in Barcelona for us, which turned out to be the best meal we;ve ever had, so thank you Juan for that. If you are looking to stay in a lovely authentic, spanish town, in a beautiful, friendly hotel, with great service and that personal touch, look no further. You will not be disappointed.

We stayed here for the Benicassim festival which is about a 10 minute drive away.
I cannot shower enough praise on Asun, Juan and Carlos for their hospitality especially when my wife was ill. They supplied paracetamol and were checking she was ok during our stay.
It is a beautifully restored Spanish townhouse of their grandparents and with only 6 rooms you get a truly personal service. The rooms are a good size with a great shower and his and her sinks.
Having hired a car we asked for directions and best places to park and Carlos kindly showed us the free parking areas by the beach which is only a few minutes drive away.
The relaxed atmosphere, supply of free cold water, great shower and good drinks selection was perfect for the evening after waking up late after each festival night and going to the beach before heading down to Benicassim and doing it all again.
My wife left her phone which Juan is posting back to the UK for us.
I hope we get to go back one day and stay at this special place.

Last year in July and August we were living in a very gracious host - Juan Arizo his Casa Arizo 2.
Wonderful house !!!! 2 months in old Spanish style. House in the center of the old town, near the bullring. Torreroes !!!! Old streets, quiet, super photo in black and white style, what else is needed ... .. nothing!
We (three adults and two children) were completely satisfied with location, accomodation, atmosphere.
The main house has its own patio, which saves in the heat, and in the evening !!! The place lacks everything - sun loungers, hammock, dining table, BBQ !!! Along the perimeter of the patio grow herbs and flowers that create shade and peaceful mood.
The house is situated in the old part of the city, where it is very quiet, comfortable, smiling and very friendly neighbors.
We were quiet when children played in the street, because Almost no cars, there are no annoying noisy disco, bars.
Nearby are several shops, cozy cafes, muzeum, shop with ready meal.
Very convenient for the family, has everything you need from the equipment !!
Most importantly, all of that so beautifully photographed - is in reality.
Respect Juan for such an idea as living in an old Spanish house.

On a long drive from Portugal's Algarve to the north tip of Spain we arrived at Casa Arizo in mid August 2014 for a two night stay. We were met with such a warm welcome and a drink on the house. After a cold beer and a very pleasant glass of wine we were showed to our top floor room. This wonderfully charming family run hotel is tucked away in the quiet seaside town of Oropesa Del Mar.
The decor is wonderful !, the attention to detail is perfect. The town house which was once owned by the proprietors grandparents has been lovingly restored and filled with antiques and original furniture. The hotel boasts many original features including , window shutters winding staircases, beautiful tiled flooring which all add to it's charm.
The hotel also offers all modern essentials. We stayed in a wonderfully comfortable and very clean air conditioned en suite room that looked out over a quiet cobbled street just a short walk from the Castle that overlooks the town.
Everything you could wish for had been carefully thought out and provided. There was also WiFi a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. The room had lots of decorative personal touches which you rarely find anymore.
Breakfast was also a delight! we dined on fresh fruit cheeses and meats as well as cereals, jams and locally produced juices and bread.
Juan and Carlos are superb and informative hosts and it is somewhere we will definitely aim to return to. Casa Arizo was exactly the short break we were looking for and we were certainly not disappointed. Next time we will certainly book for longer! Well done!!
