I was at the Himville Arms a couple of years ago and gave the place a terrible review. Ownership has now changed and the place has been revamped. This time around, the service was excellent and the food tasty and good value for money. Would recommend and would definitely come back again.

We stayed there for two nights. The staff was very serviceminded and helpful, and our waitress was very sweet. Ate breakfast and one dinner at the hotell, at the food was very good. The common facilities were nice, but the rooms needs a serious makeower. Old carpets and furniture with stains, and no shower in bathroom. TV offered only two channels, and no wifi in rooms. But, it is a charming place, and with some upgrading of the rooms this would be a place I would like to return to.

We stayed over in Himeville on our way to the Transkei. Went for supper only at the Himeville Arms.
When we were there (5/12/2019), there was only one waitress on duty. So, don’t be in a rush.
The food was good. We had curry, pies and schnitzel.

To say the least, eisbein, chicken strips, chicken schnitzel and the 250g fillet all cooked perfectly. No complaints here with friendly staff and quick service. We were very pleased with the quality of the fare offered. It's been a while since we had a bite there and were advised by a friend who can produce fantastic meals herself. The problem was the fantastic vegetables.

I loved the old style vibe, the food was good and in generous portions.
I really enjoyed my dinner.
The chef came to the table to great the guests. Very friendly atmosphere.
I think I missed out on the dessert, but I was to full to get one. The malva with french vanilla ice cream looked divine...

Just had very bad experience from this establishment after driving 560km to stay at Himeville Arms.
Made a booking telephonically at 13h42 spoken to Monique confirming price of R500 per room bed and breakfast included, as well confirmed our special needs ie. Few or no steps and parking close to room will be no problem.

On arrival a different price of R690 excluding breakfast was offered and there was absolutely no note of any special arrangement.

The lady at reception excuse that she was not told. We asked for duty Manager and was told he his late for work has not arrived!

Being in the tourist industry we don't have problem with the price but the principal and was bitterly disappointed, as this was not the 1st time that we have stayed with Himeville Arms, personally and with groups.

We believe the Manager Brad will only be on duty tomorrow, we will take this matter further with him.

Last point in a very rude way we were asked for copy of or I'd or drivers licence with no explanation why they need to make copies.

Himeville Arms have these charming buildings with antique furniture...beautiful gardens with birds... so peaceful! Relatively safe parking close to your room. Restaurant on site. Downside was the stained towels due overuse rather than new stains. As well as a leaking toilet.

This used to be a regular stop when hiking in the Berg and later, when visiting the area with family. Our visit there on Sunday was dismal. The cold weather, Splashy Fen crowd should have had this place buzzing. But we get there just before lunch as the only family in the pub.

No fireplaces were on. Apparently they are all broken. The staff were less than interested in our patronage. The bar last more interested in eating her lunch than serving us.

But having traveled for over 40 minutes to get there we had to get some food and drinks.

Well that was just as dismal. The choice of beers was pathetic. Just two beers on tap. No craft beers or anything remotely interesting. No vanilla milkshakes for the kids. Seriously. This is a default flavor guys. Service was just as dismal. The wait was long and frustrating. Food was average to say the least.

It was a long, tired afternoon there. And the saddest part was remembering the amazing atmosphere that was there just a few years ago, before the hotel sold out to the corporate Premier Hotels Group.

If you want to see what a corporate group can do to an iconic venue, just look at the sad state of affairs at Himeville Arms.

I really can’t see this place surviving. Even after all these years.

Our trip to Drakensburg was quite spontaneous, the hubster booked it a day before so in the rush didnt know what to expect... Our minds were totally blown away when we arrived at premier hotel Himeville Arms, for the price of the stay, our kids and us experienced a wealth of history and beauty, the hotel is relaxed and serene totally clean, fresh crisp towels and our room was cosy and had a beautiful fireplace, my kids totally loved the pool, felt like we were in a little piece of our own paradise in our little detached apartment. The breakfast was amazing and totally affordable. Staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and accomadate to our needs. Will def. be coming back and will be bringing more people with us next time.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting SA and doing Sani Pass. The rooms were worn and tired, electrical works in the room questionable, my husband had to stand on the bed to put the fan of and the fan wobbled so much we thought it was going to come off the ceiling, Bath with shower over, no shower curtains, tiles falling off the walls, ceilings black and stained. Rooms smelt old. Sheets were clean.
Food menu...... what a joke, we were told we could only have food that was able to be heated in microwave, I had dried up past with no sauce, my cousin had a Pork dish that was so dry you were unable to get your knife into it never mind cut the food..... We asked for a wine menu...... no wine menu it was red or white, when we asked the price the waitress didnt know how much to charge.
The swimming pool was green and the bottom of the pool was covered in dust and sand, completely unusable....
Not in a million years would I stay here again or recommend anyone to stay
