Standard Japanese business hotel with larger than normal room size in a central, convenient location walkable to Shingu's train station, castle hill, and UNESCO-listed Kumano Hayatama Taisha shrine. A railway line runs close by so can hear occasional rumble in room. The sterile Reception desk/lobby is difficult to find since it is not on the ground floor and there are no directions in English. Staff speaks no English but is customer-attentive.

Most likely the newest hotel in Shingu city. Not a “resort” hotel by any means. Since it’s new, everything is still clean and nice. Rooms come is single (one bed) and twin (two beds) and smoking and non-smoking. The non-smoking rooms are not separated by floor so at times you can smell cigarettesmome in the hallway :-( The rooms have bathrooms with a small tub and shower but there is also a OFURO (Japanese style bath) on the 3rd floor open from 4:30pm till midnight - bring the towel from your room, soap and shampoo are provided. Convenient location in the center of the city within a short walk to Shingu station. Front desk/lobby is on the 3rd floor. 2nd floor has a restaurant and a self laundry room to get your cloths washed. A simple Japanese style breakfast comes with the room charge. Front desk staff is not to helpful to assist with tours and restaurant reservations. They seem a bit untrained still compared to the UI Hotel staff where we also stayed.…

i thought the hotel had closed down when i arrived, because none of the lights were turned on at the lift lobby and everything around the area looks so dead, except that crepe store at the corner which i highly recommend. the room was very spacious, with basic amenities, i wasn't expecting much given that shingu has only a population of 28,000. i think this is considered a very nice hotel, it's about a 8 minutes walk to the train station. you could also walk to kumano hayatama-taisha shrine. it's pretty quite at night, but there's a couple of nice restaurants around the area for drinks. i would recommend megane, which is about 2 mins walk from the hotel.

This was a fantastic, new hotel. For $65/night, it really can't be beat. Every amenity you could want, from a disposable hairbrush to a pants press in the lobby. Very clean. A short walk from the train station.

I stayed last week for one night, and the rooms were impeccably clean, the staff was accommodating, and the buffet breakfast was great. I was with a tour group, and the hotel was great to all of us, with all of our luggage and late check in time. The hotel is in a good location on a quiet little street, but close to downtown and just a short walk to the castle ruins. There are good little places to eat nearby (try the western-themed crepe and burger place just around the corner if you are jonesing for fries). Westerners may not know that the hotel also has a Sento, or bathhouse, right inside the hotel that is open late in the evening so you can take a restorative soak after you check in. I plan to stay here again next time I go to Shingu (I go every year)!

The cento facilities were appropriate, clean, and the cento itself was a good temperature. We stayed in a twin bed bedroom. The washroom was modern with all amenities including a bathtub. The shower cover worked so well, not a drop of water fell outside the shower area. The a/c was easy to use (however only in Japanese) and had minute controls for precise temperature setting. Requests from the front desk were handled with immediacy. The staff spoke some broken English.

Pro (+) - Good location to explore nearby cities - 3 free parking spaces (the one below the hotel is crowded) - Clean room - Friendly staff - Fair pricing - Coin laundry Con (-) - Bathroom is clean but does not look modern. Typical japanese unit bath. The hot water supply stopped working once. Needed to wait for some minutes.
