Very clean, neat and tidy even though the place is looking its age. Staff are all very nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet provides a good variety from Japanese to western. Choice of cereal, yogurt, fruit and different types of bread. The room can quickly dry off damp ski clothing. Shower head could use a bit of repair, the spray goes on different direction. Very good water pressure. A bit disappointing with the lack of dinner options. It would be good if the plaza food court could be extended to dinner. Weather forecast, temperature and which lift open in a big board or a monitor at the reception will be useful

This Appi Hills 3 is an old hotel as in Japan the cleanliness is good. This place provide breakfast and choice of dinner but the popular Korean BBQ was fulled. In Iwate for those who love beef, this is the right place for so good beef at reasonable price, even the hotel dinner buffet serve it.

Overall very great staying. Friendly staff, clean room, strong WiFi, convenient to lift, restaurant and around.
It could be greater for skiers (we usually got lots of stuffs) if the room got some extra cabinet or shelf or hanger.

We booked a Japanese-Western style room in the Grand Villa III for two consecutive nights in late January 2020. The overall quality is OK, but some of the services is awful. By that I mean the housekeeping maids. They did not follow the rules that they should knock on the door and wait for the response from the guests inside the room before entering the room. Around 10AM each morning, they knocked on the door and rushed into our room immediately before we could even stop them from entering. What made us most upset was that we did post the “do not disturb” label on the outside of the door. By no means should any hotel employees enter the room in such case, this is a common sense and a rule. We made complaints to their front desk staffs regarding this issue on the first day, and they (those maids) did the same thing on the second day. Their staffs showed complete indifference regarding such customers’ complaints! What a shame to this hotel, they could have done a lot better than what we have experienced for the facility and nice view this hotel possesses.

Appi Grand Villa 3
Stayed in Villa 3 with our family of 5 booked In 2 rooms. Each room was comfortable and spacious with 2 beds, table with seating for 6 people, tatami mat area and separate bathroom and toilet. Room was big enough to accommodate 4 people; 2 on western style bedding & 2 on tatami bedding. Breakfast included a good selection of hot and cold dishes both western and Japanese. Dinner was available in 5 different restaurants and like breakfast included in room rate. Quality and plentiful food on offer. Predominantly Japanese dishes. Lift passes included in room rate as well as vouchers which could be redeemed at any mountain restaurant or shop. Regular free shuttle service between all resort buildings. Overall very well run hotel, efficient & helpful staff. Ski in ski out location. English speaking staff available. Special thanks to Yuji and Yoko for their wonderful service and consideration.

All the hotels in the area Appi kogen are close to the slopes. Grand villa 3 have the most inconvinient location though. To get to the slopes you have to go for a short walk(3min) uphill and then ski down to the lifts.

The rooms are nice and cosy and perfect for gathering friends in one room as it has a large long table seating 8 people in it. There is also a tatami floor section if you want to relax or eat japanese style. The beds are not the greatest though.

+ for ski rental on the first floor

The resturant have a dinner bufe and the food is oki, nothing special.

There is a shuttle bus driving you down to the nice hot bath/onsen. It stops at all the hotels so it is not much faster than just walking down there.

All in all it was a nice stay and the hotel delivers.

Stayed here on December 2014 with the family.
This hotel is the furthest from the main complex. It comes with 2 restaurant, one fusion japanese and some italian food (Pizza, pasta etc) called Lupinas and another restaurant that's only open for dinner and require prior reservation called Chokei serving mostly Japanese dishes.

The transport to APPI stop on all the hotel in the complex starting from Grand APPI hotel, so no worries there. There is free shuttle every half an hour or so that takes you to all the hotel in the complex and the onsen place. There are also bus that take you back o Morioka JR station, so when in doubt you can check with Front desk staff.

Room is spacious for Japanese standard. There are 5 of us and we get 2 single bed room and a traditional japanese tatami section good enough for 3 people. Service of the room is good as other hotel standard. you'll get kimono, bath robe, tooth brush and paste and water daily. We stayed at the 13th floor and it was nice and quiet with the view away from the mountain slope. The single bed are a bit soft to our liking and probably need some overhaul, the tatami is a bit old but clean and well kept.

There is free wifi at the main lobby area, but there is no wifi in the room. The Wifi connection at the lobby was quite good and fast. Wish they can extend it to the room that would've been perfect.

Access to chairlift can be done either by skiing through the forrest at the back or by using the shuttle. The ski trail at the hotel back is a green run with some up and down and might take some getting use to. it might be hard for first time skier, but after a few run they should be ok. I have to walk my 5 year old daughter to the ski lift for the first few times, but after a few times she was ok on most of the trail, or you can always take the shuttle.

There is also small onsen in the hotel, however I think it's better to use this only if you don't feel like going to the main onsen facility in Annex building. the Onsen in Annex building is much larger in scale and it comes with indoor/outdoor options. There is also Salomon ski rental station on this hotel, so you don't need to go to the main hotel to rent equipment (and the hassle or returning it again on the last day). The equipment is on par in term of quality with he one offered on the main building albeit a little bit less in choice.

Depending on the package, you might also get voucher for the various activities in the complex. There are usually discount voucher for rental, free onsen voucher, gym voucher, your breakfast voucher and dinner, your ski lift (you can exchange it at the booth next to the main hotel) and some voucher of snow walk.

All in all we have not much problem with this hotel. The choice of the restaurant is a bit tiring after a few days but you can always go around using the shuttle to the other hotel. For longer stay I would suggest to stay at grand APPI tower as that is closest to the slope and has the most choice of restaurant and other facility.

I stayed 4 nights with my son, and throughout our stay, we were impressed by the service rendered. The Annex is a 5-minute walk away from the Appi Plaza, and a much longer walk to Appi Grand and Appi Villa, where other restaurants are located. Although a shuttle bus is available to access all these places, the staff unfailingly offered to drive us there. As the only English speaking guests around, we were very well taken care of. At one of the restaurants, an English translation of the menu was done to accommodate to us when we made reservations to eat there a second time during our stay. Appi Kogen is not much of a challenge to the average skier, but is great for kids, and is very family friendly. Meals tend to be expensive though.

1. decorstion and facilities are bit dated
2. the rooms (double/twin) are very spacious in Japan standard
3. the service of staff is of high quality
4. among the 3 hotels of Appi, this one is the closest to the big open air onsen, and can walk with the same building (unlike the other 2 hotels that needed shuttle bus)
5. not ski in/out, walking distance between hotel and ski compound is 5 mins (by normal boots/ snowboard snows) to 10 mins (ski boots) ~ basically just crossing a road
6. frequent shuttle bus schedule to the ski area (Appi Plaza)

As comparison, we have stayed at Tomamu Tower, Kiroro, Prince New Furano.

Appi Hills 3 is a very, very old hotel. I was expecting something along the line of Tomamu Tower, both being the lower price alternatives (compared to Appi Grand and Risinore Tomamu). I was honestly shocked when I opened the door to my half western half japanese room. There is no fan in the room, so it gets very stuffy. The room is big but feels quite small because of the layout. The humongous dining table takes out so much space. The mattresses need to be replaced maybe 10 years ago.

But what disappointed not was not the room itself. It's the really infrequent shuttle bus going around the different buildings (Appi Grand, Appi Plaza, Appi Onsen, Appi Hills). It's very different from Tomamu where the bus basically goes on continually.

I'm afraid we will not consider a return to Appi Kogen.
