When I arrived, the lobby had a slight sulfurous smell from the hot spring.
There is a welcome drink bar in the lobby lounge.
The room was a beautiful 8 tatami Japanese-style room. The shoji screens were gorgeous, the first time I'd seen them (pink, white, and purple with autumn leaf patterns). There were two room keys, which was helpful.
The bath is a day-use bath. It was very crowded, probably because it was Sunday and autumn leaf season.
The hot spring is clear (a little whitish with a little water) and has a sulfurous smell. From the open-air bath, Mt. Iwate was said to be watching, as the clouds were hanging over it. The open-air bath is lukewarm.
The large bath was hot.
Although it is a day-use bath, amenities such as lotion are available.
There are only three hair dryers, so they were hard to use, and I had given up on using them, but finally I was able to use one.
There was a water cooler, but the trash can for the water cooler cups was full, so there were a lot of cups outside the trash can. They were piled up and falling onto the floor.
The next morning, the bath was only for guests staying at the hotel, so I was able to take a leisurely bath. Since it was a system where men and women alternate, I was able to use the other bath as well.
We had dinner in a venue with a beautiful chandelier that is also used in wedding venues.
There were a variety of appetizers and hors d'oeuvres, and the sashimi was a unique salad of surf clams and tuna. Although I don't like surf clams, it had no odor and was delicious.
The seafood soy milk hot pot had a gentle taste, and the Hachimantai bok shabu-shabu and cheesecake for dessert were also delicious.
The local sake from Hachimantai City was dry and delicious, and it was reasonably priced at 800 yen for 300cc, so we ordered several bottles.
The man in charge of food was very kind and hospitable, and my wife seemed to be very happy with the service.
Breakfast was a buffet in a restaurant with a view of the garden.
The pizza toast, which you can make by cutting the bread to your desired thickness and topping it with various ingredients, seemed to be popular.
The Atka mackerel wasn't too salty and was delicious, and they also had Koiwai milk and local yogurt.
We had coffee after the meal in the restaurant and also in the lobby lounge.
This was a comfortable hotel with great hot springs and very convenient for sightseeing in Hachimantai.
The hotel itself is located just at the foot of the hachimantai mountain where the gorgious matsukawa (松川) gorge is and where the jukai (树海) drive starts. 5 mins drive will get you the mesmerising autumn leaf walk that will kick start your autumn adventures.
The hotel itself spots a lucious onsen with option to be at the open air section. Alternatively, one can opt for a room with private bath tube made of cyprus wood and enjoy the same bath in the privacy of your room.
The hospitality is almost butler like. The food is luxurious both in portions and quality. Let the photos tell the story. Unique to the hotel is the tofu and onsen egg bowl. Again, let the photos tell the story.
Overall, it is one of the most luxurious stays in our stay in japan over the years.
Rooms are a little average (Japanese style), would need to be refreshed a little.
That being said, the food was very nice (typical dinner/room/breakfast Japanese package) and the service was outstanding, even by Japanese standards (one waiter discussed food, sake and gave good advice on touristic spots around, even followed us to our car on the parking for a 'goodbye' bow).
Recommended if you want to have a great 60's resort experience!
The building is old, but cleaning is attentive. The room is comfortable with Japanese and Western style. The snowy garden which is visible from the lobby is beautiful.
It is a hotel operated by a locally famous butcher, so the meal is definitely delicious.
The hot spring was very comfortable and I slept very well.
Quiet environment is very wonderful.
