I was looking for a truly remarkable location when I began planning my marriage proposal back in July 2017. El Castillo was it. The entire staff worked incredibly hard during and even prior to our stay to ensure that our experience there would be one of a kind. Gerson and Scott h

What is the cheapest way to get to this hotel Thank you in advance
Hello and thanks for thinking of us. Here is some information on getting to Castillo. This is missing the links due to Tripadvisor's policy. You should fly into San Jose. The best is to rent a 4x4 in San Jose and drive. It is about 3.5 hours depending on traffic. If you have a factory unlocked phone, bring it. Buy a chip at the Kolbi booth in baggage claim. Use Waze for directions. The most difficult part is getting out of San Jose. Once on the 27, there are just two turns to arrive at the hotel. Be aware 27 is a toll road. You will need about 3000 colones. All these roads are paved except for the final 300 meters to the hotel. You don't necessarily need the 4x4 to get to the hotel, but you will want it for exploring. I like working with Payless. And talk to the office in San Jose. You can email them at XXX. Talk with Carolina or Susan. They have the best customer service and prices. Tell them I sent you and they will take care of you. We can arrange a private shuttle to get to the hotel if you would like. We use Tico Rides and it is $265 each way with a one week cancellation policy. Or another scheduled shuttle option is Monkey Ride. You can see more information here: If you use Uber, that is an option. The price ranges between $150 and $190. Uber can bring you to the hotel, but they do not operate in our area. Also we have regional flights on Sansa. Most flights go into Quepos/Manuel Antonio an hour to our north. Also there is Palmar Sur which is 20 minutes to our south. How else can I help? You can contact me directly if you would like.

Hi, I was wondering about beach access, being that the hotel is located on a cliff. Is it within walking distance? How are the nearby beaches? Is this region of Costa Rica known for crocodiles? Is there anything within walking distance to the hotel? Any nearby nightlife? Thank you!
Beach access is by car or local taxi… The beaches are safe… The Bamboo Room Restaurante Fusion Lookout Bistro Best happy hour in Dominical The restaurant also has a cozy bar with sports programming and pool billiards. Although more a restaurant than a bar; the bar offers the best happy hour deals in Dominical: USD 2,- local beers, USD 3,- glass of wine (house) or a cocktail for USD 3,-; choose from tequila sunrise, screwdriver, margarita or caipirinha. Happy hour is from 3 to 5pm, Sunday to Friday.

Hi I was wondering if you could give me a few more details about the excursions you did, especially the Corcovado Park and if there is anything within walking distance ie another restaurant, small shop etc At present we have booked 3 nights but am wondering about adding more Thanks very much
Tours around Ojochal can include snorkeling at Cano Island, hiking Corcovado Park or Hacienda Baru, horses to Nauyaka Falls, laying on the beach, ATVs, surf lessons, walking out on the famous Ballena Whale's Tail, white water rafting, sportfishing, ziplining at OSA Mountain, kayaking or paddle boarding in some of the world's largest mangroves or cayoning down a waterfall. After a short drive to the river town of Sierpe you can take a panga style boat into the mangroves. Comfortably you will see all types of wildlife including birds, snakes, crocs, monkeys, etc. Then off to Isla de Violines for a nice lunch and swim. One of my favorite days. The Costa Ballena area contains one beach after the other. In front of Ojochal is Tortuga Beach with its caves in the northern end. Next Ventanas with its nice bay for swimming and caves for exploring. After Pinuela Beach is the famous Ballena Beach, then Hermosa and Dominicalito/Dominical. All are special in their own way. On Sundays you can go to Villas Leonor for their Sunday BBQ. A restaurant on the beach. Makes for a great day. Garza Island sits in the view of Castillo and our private beach club provides a great excursion. Our boat captain will whisk you off to the island accompanied by our staff. We will cook for you while you relax on the beach. It is a quintessential Costa Rican experience. Guests of Castillo have exclusive access to the Elan Beach Club on Playa Ballena. Spend the day frolicking in the ocean under the careful eye of a lifeguard. Feel free to use their kayaks, paddle boards and boogie boards or just lie back in a hammock and enjoy one of the area’s most beautiful beaches. We have three waterfalls in our area which are easily accessible at no cost. Just to the south of Ojochal is Pavon. Really beautiful waterfall with a Talapia farm restaurant above. You can swim in the waterfall pool, lay on the rocks on the river and end the experience by catching your own lunch! Excursions further away, but doable in a day include exploring the Wilson Botanical Gardens at San Vito. Venture up to Indian village of Boruca and watch them carve their colorful masks and weave. The drive alone to this place is worth it. To the north you can drive to San Gerardo de Dota and see the famous Quetzal. After driving along the Continental Divide, you drop into a beautiful gorge that is the birthplace of the Savegre River. Hike along the river to grand waterfalls. One of my favorite places. We can provide different types of spa treatments, but usually our guests just want a really good massage. Ojochal is home to over 14 great restaurants. In El Castillo, we have Castillo’s Kitchen, mastering the evolution of the Costa Rican Cuisine. Chef Pablo will amaze you. Open 7 days, we offer live music on Wednesday and sunset sushi on Saturdays and Sundays. Exotica, owned by Lucy and Robert, is a long term legend in the area with a French fusion cuisine. Marcella owns Citrus with its new world cuisine. We also have Mamma y Papa which is Italian, Live music and casual fare at The Bamboo Room, Steven elevates Costa Rican cuisine at Fusion and Pancito Bakery which is great for breakfast or lunch. You can get stunning views at the new Kua Kua Restarant by Executive Chef Jaak Toomsalu. The best is to rent a 4x4 to get around. What name is your reservation under? Scott.
