What a fabulous view from our luxury room. The guest house has been refurbished tastefully in retro style and even has a working jacuzzi in the ocean view bathroom! Beautiful fittings and furniture and an excellent breakfast with fresh papaya. Staff are helpful and courteous and the place is spotlessly clean. Swimming pool is indoors but has a view of the ocean. Definitely recommend.
We cannot overstate our thanks to Naomi and colleagues who accepted our last minute booking and waited until late for us to arrive. The view from our room was amazing right across the bay. Cleanliness and comfort superb. Excellent coffee for full English breakfast. Thank you so much!
I would like to tell you about my experience at the Ocean Palms Guest House in Gordons Bay. I stayed there with my girlfriend for a week over the December Holiday in 2018. I am only writing this review now since I believed there may be a chance of the issue being resolved and a formal apology given. This was not the case and Ive heard nothing from them since the incident. A very nice and friendly man, by the name of Ricardo fetched us from Cape Town Airport and took us to the guest house and we were very happy with him throughout our stay as he works there and we saw him everyday and he an honest and genuine guy and also a big Christian. We arrived at the guest house late in the evening and were shown our room by a very lovely front of house lady. The room which was really great and spacious had a safe which didn't work and we later found out that none of the safes in the rooms worked, as we enquired about keeping our valuables there, We were assured that the safes would be repaired or new ones installed soon. However, the next morning after having breakfast at the guest house, we returned to our room, where I immediately became aware 200 euros was missing from my wallet. My wallet was at the time inside my girlfriends handbag, which was on our main bedroom table. Thinking this was rather strange, but not overreacting, I informed my girlfriend, who tried to convince me that theft was out of the question and that it seemed impossible since we had only gone downstairs to have breakfast. However, on the third day, also during breakfast, another 200 euros was taken out of my wallet in mush the same fashion, and it became clear to my girlfriend and myself what was going on. Someone had obviously been going into our room while we were having breakfast downstairs and going through my girlfriends handbag and helping themselves to our money, in particular mine. I enquired about the safes which were told would be sorted out and in the meantime were given a "Mickey Mouse" little portable money box in which to lock up our stuff. It was however to late and by now 400 euros was missing from my wallet. This equated to more than R6000 and as you can imagine I was very upset and angry. Going through the channels, I informed first Ricardo, who was very understanding and then the manager lady, who was also understanding, but later told us it was not the first time that such things had happened. We were told that housekeeping had been polygraphed in the past for such offences and the ones responsible were dismissed. My girlfriend and I were told they would do similar in this case and follow the matter up and let us know the outcome. I am yet to hear anything further from the matter after I was promised they would let me know. My girlfriend said she was told that none of the staff failed the polygraph and that nothing further could be done. I cannot point fingers at anyone of the staff there as that would be the most unethical thing to do. However, I can tell you what happened to me and so I warn anyone who is planning a trip to the Ocean Palms Guest House in Gordons Bay to be very careful of where you leave your things, especially hand bags with money inside. It is most unfortunate that one of the staff there is so dishonest, to the degree that they feel entitled to helping themselves to your hard earned money, whilst you are having breakfast. It must be added that if someone steals something they feel entitled to, they will not fail a polygraph or a lie detector and this is fact. We payed a lot of money to stay there for a week over December, as you can imagine, the place is not cheap, However, having said that, you will never find me going back there ever again. I have learned a valuable lesson through this and thought I should share my story with you all.......…
what an amazing stay we had at this establishment. From the stylish layout to great breakfast and even better staff. So friendly and warm. Mr Ricardo made our stay as a family even more special with his great tips on where to visit and eat. The beautiful Tammy always friendly and helpful, as well as Unathi and Naomi who made me feel very comfortable even when my toddler acted up (which is very important to a Mom).
Superb staff, welcoming, very efficient and always friendly and helpful----willing to go that extra mile. Here you are truly a GUEST and not a number. We had the honeymoon suite/room. Lovely views over the bay. Well equipped and comfortably furnished. Excellent bed. Loved the room layout and convenient kitchenette. Superb breakfast served as requested in our room. Good secure parking. We´ll be back for sure. Great place to spend first couple of days...short drive from airport. Easy to find. Really nice area (plenty of restaurant, shops etc)...yes, it can be a tad windy here (it´s hardly a secret).....delicate flowers who have any trouble with this need to ask themselves what they´re doing visiting the Cape??!! Hahahaha
