This quiet, authentic and comfortable hotel is a true haven of peace ideally located on the beautiful coconut beach of Saly, and close to many sites worth visiting.
It is the ideal alternative for those who want to move away from all inclusive channels.
The welcome and service are impeccable and are the highlight of this hotel.
The hotel has several swimming pools, the main one surrounded by coconut trees. Fortunately, the activities remain discreet and well dosed, which allows you to enjoy mostly the calm.
The beach is perfect and paradisiacal , also very quiet , top facing southwest , and ideal for enjoying an excellent cocktail on the single, double deckchairs , or a hammock, all in the shade of palm trees.
Paddle , banana, jet ski or fishing enthusiasts, a yacht club is located on the site.
The restaurant "la Terrasse du Port" offers very correct and quite varied buffets, but it is more the Beach Club restaurant that offers the best culinary experience , with a varied choice of à la carte and very neat dishes. Nice wine list.
I invite you to experience the special dinner on the beach once a week, where you will enjoy delicious barbecued lobsters. A supplement worth it!
Rooms: we were staying in a luxury upstairs huts. Very nice space tastefully decorated African style, and for the rooms upstairs, a beautiful ceiling height where you can discover the semi-circle roof of the hut, very original and local.
However, it became really necessary to refresh the room (without making a decision on all the rooms, but based only on my own experience): bathroom / sanitary to certainly refresh, and air conditioning from another age, noisy treasure and to replace as soon as possible.
Small detail: the hotel says it has a cash withdrawal service. Please note that the ATM only works for Visa cards and that the reception does not offer an exchange service. This has caused us several times some logistical problems forcing us to find an ATM in town, when it works and accepts Mastercard ...
The above in no way detracts from the very good hold of the set, which I recommend.

The hotel is about 45 mins from the nearest airport, mostly by motorway. The hotel has a small open air reception area. Check in was a bit slow and it is expected that a considerable sum will be held against a credit card. Beware of the amount! We had a large luxury room overlooking the marina. It was lovely but the fittings are dated and marked which does not reflect the standard expected. There is a safe but it is very high up and inaccessible to a short person like me unless you balance on the room stool which is not safe. The room towels were poor quality and therefore needed changing daily. The beds were large and comfortable and the a/c worked well but was noisy. The food was buffet service but was always hot with plenty of choice, The evening entertainment and Sunday afternoon saxophonist was perfect for the mostly older clientele but few stayed to enjoy it in the evening which was possibly due to the seating being so close to the restaurant and therefore not a more relaxing area. The staff were all lovely and helpful but little English is spoken so be prepared to communicate in French or use a phrase book or App. The beach is kept beautifully clean and there were always lots of sunbeds everyday. The sea is warm and safe and there are also jet skis and fishing available. Staff to be praised include: Abdouleye and Babbacar (beach) and Therese and Gamou (Guest relations) who were always helpful and cheerful. Negative point to note - there is a lot of building work both in front of and behind the hotel. The 'marina' is now just an enclosed water area with twenty floating rooms. These spoil the view somewhat and we had not been made aware of the noise during the day from the building work around the hotel. I'm sure this is only temporary. There is a nice pool and also a separate pool if you have a more superior room.

For our 5th stay at the Manatee since 2016, we must admit to having been disappointed.
After having enjoyed a nice bright room on the ground floor 2 years ago, we benefited this time from a room upstairs probably under renovation since the bathroom has been modified since our first visits in this type of room, the local furniture (more - in perfect condition) maintained, but all the pretty local decorations removed.. In short, a room a little tristounette without cachet and at least not 5 stars.
In addition, there is no bag for laundry, a bathrobe for 2 (we claimed a second), no hair dryer (we claimed), 4 hangers for 2, one of the cabinets without board or rod, the other without straight side walls, no shower product (or rather a dispenser placed outside the shower...) or shampoo (we bought some at Auchan ..).It is certain that these small stewardship worries are details, but not for a 5 star.
Moreover, the staff at the restaurant seems to have been reduced as well as disappeared their "dress code" which changed almost every day depending on the theme of the evening and was still pretty.
I don't know if these restrictions are due to the arrival of Mövenpick at the same time as the concern for "renovation," but we regret the "old" Manatee with its more local atmosphere and its deserved 5 stars because here, all these little details do not allow to speak (or pay ..) of a 5 star, even a 4..
Moreover, what about the new "rooms on the water" which are a real visual shock but built to be profitable.?And why did you paint all the rooms in the garden white rather than leave them their "bush" color?
On the other hand, the staff is always charming and the food good and varied (5 stars for breakfast!), the pool always as beautiful and clean and the beach nice although the condition of the seats could be improved.
In conclusion, we hope that the renovations in progress will be limited to refreshing the rooms like those we had two years ago, or repair the furniture of those that remain more "local" but without going beyond in the apparent desire to modernize and profitability...

5 stars? You really do? There is no VIP welcome with the prestige suites (we had booked this category) as advertised on the site and not even a welcome worthy of the name at the reception: during the Check in, apart from the keys collection, no information was given to us about the establishment, we had to find ourselves for the places, hours... no accompaniment to the room that was not ready, we wandered for more than an hour in the hotel going to the news from time to time. I had much better receptions at an Ibis in France recently. And during the check out we learn that the soft drinks of the mini bar were offered which we were never told. Never seen in a 5-star hotel.
The hotel is a collection of motley buildings and furnishings and in a very average condition, there are even absolutely unacceptable details (the disgusting and dilapidated condition of part of the beach deckchairs, see photos, worthy of a low-end paillote). At the same time, the hotel is expanding, building new rooms on the water (by the way very ugly), it seems that the management is more interested in bringing in additional guests than in maintaining what exists: there are broken tiles and other details sign of an aging hotel, tired amenities and not necessarily rigorously renovated. In the room we occupied, although recent, I noticed many low quality details: front door that closes badly, bay window access to the terrace difficult to open, shower head failing, hot water missing in the sink (reported several times not repaired), random evacuation, phone with false contacts, noisy air conditioning, approximate soundproofing (you can hear the room neighbors talking), the floor of the corridors in this part of the hotel is covered with linoleum...very approximate finishes...wifi too weak to work in visio (I was brought a modem, thankfully). No ice cubes (machine broken) for several days. We can accommodate these little inconveniences the problem is the delirious price of the room, as in a European Sofitel and there it does not go at all: the services are clearly out of step. There is not even room service in the evening although it is advertised on the website regarding prestige suites.
Half board is compulsory with a buffet (dinner and breakfast) of your choice, as found in a Flunch or Crescendo but it remains a buffet. Cooked meat that stays two hours warm in its dish will never replace meat prepared on demand and at the last minute. The buffet will delight customers who like to have plenty on their plate. Those who want a little gastronomy will stay hungry...
The staff is large, we always find an answer when needed, but it is often a very mechanical service.
The prestige suite rooms that are upstairs have a beautiful beach and sea view, it is very appreciable but it does not justify the price, charged twice what they should.

Over the last ten years I must have gone to Lamantin ten times, maybe I don’t know.
Each time at least a week.
It’s my starting point for family matters in particular.
The rooms are correct to the African standard, the staff always attentive, very close to us to ensure that our slightest desires are satisfied with eagerness and a smile.
I don't know what's happening there but since the takeover by ACCOR the quality of the food has dropped significantly.
It's quite spectacular.
Goodbye to the themed buffets, the Senegalese corner where we found great local dishes, the beautiful presentation, the party.
It's all over and well over.
Time for food, every day the same salads, the same skewers, the same stews.
Not once have we been offered a simple Yassa….
No, I'm leaving disappointed...
The chef is Italian it seems?
Can they at least cook fries properly?
This is the first time in ten years that I have eaten pizza some evenings.
Sorry for all these great people who work there with heart, but I don't know what ACCOR and the new director are looking for?
Has he ever managed a holiday/family hotel??

We had an absolutely fabulous week here as a family of 4 with children aged 19 and 17. We had 2 rooms, one twin room with a balcony that overlooked the pool and one suite with a sea view balcony. Both rooms were excellent, clean and the beds were very comfortable. The sea view from our room (30) is stunning and there's also a side view of the pool through some palm trees which is also lovely.
The amenities are good, plenty of loungers by the pool (it wasn't busy when we were there in the Easter holidays), lots of beach loungers too, a well stocked gym and the general environment was pleasant. Lots of flowers and generally well maintained. Some of the loungers are getting tired and could do with updating but we had no issues.
The food is excellent, we were half board and ate from the buffet for breakfast and dinner every night. Guiseppe the chef, had an excellent menu with lots of choice that suited everyone. Plenty of grilled meats, fish, vegetables, pasta station etc for dinner with amazing starters and so many desserts! We loved the breakfasts, so much to chose from and I opted for the Senegalese breakfast most mornings. Excellent coffee too.
We ate some snacks, lunch and cocktails in the restaurant, all to a good standard, although we regularly went out locally to try other places in the day time.
The entertainment team were very good, the evening entertainment was fun and great to watch some of the incredible dancers and singers. The ladies encouraged us to dance and I had fun dancing with Daba and others on the Saturday night.
We went out for a guided beach walk and took part in aqua gym with Babacar, very good and tailored to us as we were the only people there.
You can settle your final bill by card in the hotel and they also have a cash machine in reception although I believe that incurs a charge, we didn't use it. The reception staff can exchange USD, £ and € to CEF, it was very useful but the rate wasn't great. You could get a better rate paying by card or exchanging money elsewhere.
All in all this holiday is a great choice in Saly. The staff are friendly and helpful and the place is a delight to stay. It is a little way out from the centre of Saly but you can take a taxi for 2000 CEF or the walk along the beach is about 30 minutes. There is also a supermarket, 2 cafes and other places to see about 5 minutes walk outside the hotel which we frequented many times.
It's about 45 mins - 1 hour from Dakar and the airport. I enjoy a decent drive to be able to see some of the countryside, but something to consider. If you want to spend time in Dakar and Goree Island then the travel adds to the day out.

Hotel far from an advertised 5*, especially given the price. Photos on site far from reality… Standard room leaves something to be desired with mattress comparable to a wooden board.. so we moved to the Blue Bay rooms. An idyllic setting with private swimming pool and seafront, as long as you forget to let it go (leak in the room, mold on the ceiling and joints, cracked mirror, algae in the joints of the swimming pool as well as missing paving stones...) Room problem which has been given to someone else on two occasions (thanks to waking up at 2 a.m. and in the middle of the day, not to mention having to redo the cards which had therefore been demagnetized in the process)..
Mediocre evening buffet, a la carte is much better but we quickly got the hang of it. Nice themed dinners but require extra to eat properly.
Unsanitary spa, presence of rubble during our visit, cold water, flies in the water, one jet/2 works..
Daily complaints, multiple billing errors requiring special attention to consumption outside the package to avoid being cheated. Moreover, plan to check out in advance because you risk not being at the end of your trouble.
Don’t try to spend an evening at the hotel, at 10 p.m. the music will turn off, at 11 p.m. the bar closes, even Cinderella has a later curfew…
To stay on a positive note, the weather is nice and warm. The bar and restaurant staff are lovely. A special thank you to Gamou, a customer manager who showed unrivaled professionalism, a Solutionist, despite numerous customer complaints. A thank you also to Thérèse who, through her kindness and her smile, allowed us to temporarily forget what was wrong.

“Our stay at the Hôtel Lamantin Saly was a mixed experience, mixing remarkable strengths with aspects where improvements could be considered.
One of the most impressive aspects of this hotel is, without a doubt, its beach area. The beauty and charm of the coastal environment is simply incredible. It is a true haven of peace offering unforgettable moments of relaxation.
The leisure and Spa section also deserves a special mention. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service offered, the professionalism of the staff and the resilience of its manager, Mr. Issame. His dedication and professionalism greatly enriched our stay, providing memorable experiences.
However, the experience in other aspects fell short of our expectations. The restaurant service, although decent, did not fully meet expectations for a hotel of this category. The culinary offer could have been improved to offer greater variety and more assertive quality, especially given the prices applied.
In addition, the rooms, with the exception of the Blue Bay section, did not always seem to meet the international standards expected for a hotel of this category. Improvements could be considered to ensure a consistent and quality experience in all sections of the establishment.
In sum, Hôtel Lamantin Saly offers a mixed experience, with notable highlights such as its incredible beach and exceptional Leisure and Spa service, but improvements could be made in terms of dining and accommodation to deliver an experience more homogeneous and up to expectations for an establishment of this category."

Second stay in this hotel during the same period.
Reception is quite slow, but we're on vacation, you have to stay cool. Lots of staff on training at reception (and elsewhere) but all charming. We were initially allocated a room different from the one reserved but with a little insistence we got the "Deluxe" room reserved. Our friends had a really shabby bungalow room but were able to change the next day. A global refresh is necessary.
The room we had is very spacious, clean but a little old. The bedding is a little firm. All the classic accessories are present. Last year, we had a small display with bath salts which we no longer have this year. Wifi fully functional throughout the hotel except near reception and on the beach where it is capricious.
The staff is very attentive. When we arrive at the buffet, we are systematically asked if there is a problem with the room. Once we had a weak flow of water from the shower, which was repaired when we returned to the room!
The buffets are very good, very fresh and relatively varied. We are served quickly, no excessive queues. Besides, the hotel never gives the impression of being overcrowded even though everything was occupied.
The fitness room is more than sufficient (pulleys, benches, dumbbells, bars, elliptical bikes, mats, press... Towels and water fountain and fruit available.
The beach is idyllic clean. The deckchairs are starting to show signs of age. No need to crowd at the pool.
The spa is under construction (and that's very good!). The range of treatments is more limited but the massages are still on the program and very pleasant.
In the end, a very pleasant and rejuvenating break at this time of year, with attentive staff. An infrastructure that is certainly a little aging but nothing prohibitive. Thank you all.

We had a very good one-week stay at Blue Bay as a family with our 5 year old son.
Several very pleasant spots in the hotel: Blue Bay swimming pool, quiet, intimate and heated, beach, secure children's swimming pool, main swimming pool (cooler water compared to the other 2), Beach bar to enjoy a good cocktail at the end of the day .
The rooms at Blue Bay are ideal for a peaceful, intimate holiday with a sea view.
Small downside, a refresh is needed in the bathroom where the floor covering is starting to deteriorate.
We would like to thank the entire Lamantin team for their wonderful welcome! A big thank you to Binta at room service, to Margot and Nanette at the restaurant who always take care of us and to July and her team who look after our beautiful little faces at the kids club!
A plus plus for Gildas at the fishing center which knows how to adapt according to our desires offering outings suitable for both children for adapted fishing and adults for more sporty fishing or even for a romantic stroll at sunset !
We will gladly come back!
