We've always loved staying at the Glenesk while fishing the North Esk. Hadn't been for years. The hotel has just been acquired by new owners so is currently a WIP, but we were made so very welcome and we wish them all the best for the future. Fortunately their brilliant whisky man/adviser is still there - he's SO knowledgeable!

We felt very welcome, our room was very well appointed, the food was ok BUT this hotel is now under ambitious new ownership with exciting plans to modernise and deliver high quality service. Given its superb location with so much to do and see nearby, it should soon become an even more desirable destination.

Arrived and greeted by Kirsty like you are an old friend and shown to our room it was just lovely and clean. The whisky bar is something to see and the knowledge of the staff either about whisky or the local area is excellent. All the meals were lovely well presented and hot, just as they should be. The village is superb for a quiet walk about and the buildings are lovely. Unfortunately due to covid the leisure facilities were closed but looking through the window it all looked lovely. Good job guys and thanks.

We picked the Glenesk at random, and had a lovely evening meal. The food was exceptional, to the extent that my 13-year old son had his main course twice. 10/10 for that burger, and my wife’s steak, and my haggis and chicken. Our waitress, Derryn, had a lovely combination of natural charm and effortless efficiency. Brooke, on the front desk, had so much enthusiasm for the hotel, and Edzell itself, that I’m sure we will return.

Our 4 night stay was fantastic. The hotel is full of Scottish character and heritage and the staff are truly amazing. They catered for all our needs including e.g. maps for walks in the Glens, recommending whiskies and gins to suit our tastes and ad hoc gluten-free requests. The executive suites were large and comfortable with ground floor access. The owners are lovely, kind and ambitious people who are working very hard to make the hotel even better than before. The hotel is in a prime location well suited to outdoor activities and eating out. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to our next visit. The Glenesk Hotel is highly recommended!
