Arrived in hot sunny weather for the first day, walked to the beach on checking in and that was the last time we saw the beach as it rained for the next 3 days of our stay, but with that said there is more that enough to do in and around Cape St. Francis. The restaurant at this resort is a great place to eat as one does not have to drive after a couple of bottles of wine.... Will be back inMay 2020 for sure as the GM said that is the best time to visit.
Cape St Francis Backpackers - This place feels modern and fresh following a recent refurbishment by new owners. We were fortunate to visit during off season and basically had the place to ourselves. We stayed in an empty 10 bed dorm which was comfortable and spacious with a great balcony and hotel style bathroom. There are individual cupboards provided in the room although not lockable. The common kitchen is well equiped and the lounge area nice and comfy. There is an outdoor rooftop terrace which is a nice place to chill in the sun or have a drink under the stars. The hostel is located directly in the heart of St Francis village above restaurants, bars and shops, with supermarkets next door. The beach is only 200m away. If you have a car there is much to explore in the surrounding area including the estuary, port, cape and numerous beaches with great surf breaks. The Managers of the hostel are super friendly and keen to help. The only downfall of the place is the complicated key system with a 4 separate keys provided to service the front door, dorm room, common area and food cupboard. You end up carrying around a bulky set of keys which isn't ideal, however I believe the managers and reviewing this.…
This small town boasts not only a great shore-break to learn surfing but also quite a few intermediate and advanced spots like 'Seals'. For the family a day-trip would not be complete without a visit to the lighthouse and the penguin sanctuary.
The Cape St Francis backpackers is attached to the Cape St Francis Resort - in fact it is a large 3 bedroom standalone house within the resort. There is a large sitting dining area, pool room, kitchen, brai area. We had it to ourselves (not unusual from the remarks book) - so a luxury resort quality house at backpacker prices!! The staff were really nice and you can use the resort pool. The beach is near by and the local coastline is stunning - you really should go for a walk along the coast - the office has maps.
