Definitely a highlight of our month away! Edwina and Wayne are fantastic hosts and make you feel right at home. We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was very nice. All of the rooms back onto the pool in the center.
The property is on a small nature reserve that is home to some zebra, ostrich's and a giraffe. Upstairs there is a nice sized bar, with tables and chairs, stools, couch, or two hammocks. There is a beautiful view up here as well, perfect for sundowners.

The food was an experience here, both for variety and taste. One night we had dinner out in the boma where Wayne treated us to a real South African Braii. It is a cozy intimate atmosphere with our hosts, as well as with other fun guests we met on our travels.

Our safari was awesome! We had John as a guide, and he was great, he knew exactly where to take us to see the animals. Note: Kruger is massive, so you may go an hour or so without seeing much, but this just adds to the anticipation when a sighting arrives. Also a jacket is recommended in the morning as the combination of no sun and driving in the open vehicle can get a bit chilly even in December.

Again Ed and Wayne are fantastic hosts and our experience would not have been the same without them! Thank you Ed for your recommendation to "On the Rocks" in Cape Town, it was a memorable dinner and so scenic.

Thank you for your friendly review and for taking the time to write the review. We apologise for the late response. We are the new owners since February 2020, we have made numerous changes to the lodge including a restaurant and deck overlooking the waterhole and welcome all our guests around the new boma. The new restaurant and deck ensures that everybody gets beautiful sightings of the animals on a regular basis. Much appreciated Sunset Management.

We stayed with our family for three nights. We were given two seperate very nice rooms, which were very clean and with good quality bedding. This was no extra fee even though we initially booked one family room. Breakfast and dinner were very good! We had no load shedding because they had solar power stored. Every evening a nice fire to sit around and this is also where a part of the food was made. Good wines and drinks. A quick lunch was no problem and very good. Vincent and Toni were always around for questions, a good tip or just a nice chat. They were very knowledgeable. We did some really good tours via their site. Everything for a very, very reasonable price. The area of their place is nice with a lot of animals. We had a really wonderful time and would recommend this place to anyone.

I had a great time here; the rooms were large and airy with good AC, bathroom had bath and walk in shower and it was always clean and tidy. The dining room and communal area was a large open room with double ceilings and lots of local art, never got to watch the TV (busy thing).
The upstairs bar and deck got a bit more use we saw Giraffe (5), Zebra (3) and ostrich from the deck. I did not use many of the facilities as I was just so busy.
The tours themselves were just amazing, both of our guides (Shoes and Kylie (2) ) were very knowledgeable about where the animals hang out. habits etc. it was obvious how hard they tried and how much they wanted to see everything. We had some amazing sightings, my favourites include a herd of elephants (about 10) crossing the road not 100 yards in front of us, a herd of about 100 Cape Buffalo arriving at the water hole and the interaction that occurred with the Bull Elephant that was there. The lions feeding and so much more. No two tours are the same so you just have to accept what you get; I know how lucky I was to see so much activity as these are wild animals and there is no guarantee what you will see.
I have never stayed in a family run Lodge before but it was a good time, the family were helpful and friendly, I would go again.
Hints:
1. I was there in winter and It can be cold in the mornings at 05:30; so think layers
2. Have plenty of memory cards.
3. The bigger the lens the better it is.
4. Keep your eyes open on the road from the main road to the hotel (about 20 minutes) I saw 8 lions, 2 hippos, 3 or 4 Giraffe and other animals

Hope this helps.

I don’t really know where to begin with this one, so amazing was the experience!
Upon arriving we were met by the lovely, unflappable and competent Tony. His manner was very soothing after a long drive. We were in room 7 which was everything we hoped it would be, containing, amongst other things, an outdoor shower! It was also beautifully furnished with an amazing view.

After we had settled in, we met Vince, Tony’s counterpart and all-round witty chef supreme. We discovered this at dinner when an aromatic prawn curry of such high standards was made, we thought we were in heaven. It turned out that Vince is a clean eater, makes everything from scratch, everything is bio, etc. It was lovely. Very good for those Europeans who want to eat healthily. Eveningly meals if you are not in a group are communal and conversation just flowed. Herds of buffalos often graze nearby. Just lovely.

The next day, Tony and Vince took us on a game drive which was lovely and such fun. So many amazing birds in Guernsey Private Nature Reserve. All with hilarious on-point running commentary throughout from Vince.

The staff at Sunset lodge are extremely well-trained which is not a given in South Africa. They are polite, initiative-taking and very on-point. The pool and dining areas are beautiful and everything was just perfect.

Put simply, we are counting the days until we can return!

Thank you Vince and Tony for your amazing hospitality!

Dear Bryony and Frank, often guests, like yourselves, will bring our the best in hosts and their staff. We enjoyed every moment that you were here with us equally as much as you did. Yes we do offer REAL FOOD as our only option but it was the enjoyment of seeing you lapping it up that also counted. Sunset Game Lodge lends itself to a cosy and friendly environment and the view from the restaurant deck helps tremendously in this regard but the friendly banter between yourselves and our other guests were part of the delightful entertainment. Thank you once again for having stayed with us and we certainly look forward to your next visit! Yours truly Vincent and Toni

Great lodge with nice food, nice staff, nice guests and most importantly nice hosts! We loved our stay at this lodge. Everything from the room to the scenery with animals was great. The hosts were also very helpful and attentionate, and were able to book tours for us.
Thanks again Vincent and Toni for making your place feel like home.
