Andy & Jan are gracious but casual hosts in this unassuming B & B. Andy's introductory familiarization "chat" immediately sets guests at ease & speedily deals with the common logistical questions re facilities, local options & Hebridean "must-sees." Their welcoming check in drink & snack (unusual in our Scottish touring experience) enhances the feeling of being a valued guest. Despite the rather austere surroundings, & the somewhat poorly signed road access, their welcome quickly rewards the visitor. The guest lounge is warm, welcoming and well outfitted with reading resources & cosy furniture. Our bedroom, on ground level, was spacious, generously closeted with an attractively linened & comfortable bed. The 2 resident family dogs provided entertaining distractions & guest friendly behaviour. Our walking tour of nearby Lochboisdale, prompted by Andy, was interesting & rewarding pictorially. Andy is an early riser & the succulent breakfast provided indicated his commitment to an outstanding repast. Beautiful views from the breakfast area enhanced the dining experience. He & Jan even provided us with a takeaway supply of local free range eggs as we planned to rough camp for the next few days.
Andy and his wife were amazing hosts. Nothing was too much trouble.
The bedroom was a good size, comfortable and clean. Andy recommended and booked somewhere for us to eat - it was an excellent meal at the Polachar Inn.
When we got back we had a drink.
Breakfast was scrummy, scrambled eggs with hot smoked salmon from a local producer.
He got up super early the next morning to give us breakfast before we caught the early morning ferry.
Hosts very informative on places to visit, to eat, and activities in area & can even make reservations for you! Room was comfortable, bathroom & shower luxurious, and location lovely. Breakfast was delicious with many food choices.
I am just back from a stay in heron point with my colleague/ good friend, as we were on a language and music trip to create links between our home in Ireland and South Uist.
I take no shame in saying, and Andy already knows, what drew me to Heron point where the picture of his fabulous smoked salmon breakfast, and my goodness, it did not disappoint- pure heaven in a plate!
But Heron point is so much more than an amazing breakfast- indeed it is so much more than a B&B...
It is the warmest welcome I have ever experienced...it is views from the bedroom window that literally take your breath away...it is a genuine interest from Andy and Jan in who you are and why you’ve come to Uist...It is pure passion and love for where they live and for their business...it is expert advise on what to see and do...it is a level of cleanliness and attention to detail that, having travelled the world, I have never experienced its equal...it is great craic, endless stories and even a wee complimentary dram of whiskey in the evening ideas you wish!... there are actually no words for the impression Heron Point and it’s owners Andy & Jan have left on me, and I can only say that anyone who books a stay have no idea if the treat they are in for. Thank you again, from the bottom of our Irish hearts x
We enjoyed a wonderful visit of South Uist while staying at Heron Point. Andy and his wife, Jan, warmly welcomed us when we arrived after a hectic day of travel. Each morning, Andy prepared delicious and satisfying breakfasts - made to order! He gave helpful advice on places to see and things to do and helped us with various dining options in the area. In the evenings, we were invited to relax and unwind in the lounge with a nice sip of whisky.
Our room was pleasant and had all the amenities we could hope for! This B&B is situated with a lovely view of a sea loch and the scenery is just beautiful with plenty of birds and wildlife as well as peace and quiet.
We really enjoyed our stay at Heron Point and highly recommend this B&B.
