I was nervous to stay away from home this summer, but half an hour away from my home, is hotel Cèsar in Vilanova I Geltrú. The check in was done mostly online to limit time spent in the reception area- which they have moved from inside to the bar at the terrace- with both doors wide open, it felt safer.
The hotel smelt clean. The room was spotless. And roomy. Loved the bathroom. For those who like a bath, it was probably on the small side, but the shower was perfect. Breakfast was brilliant- and I’m celiac and vegetarian. We had to book a time so that they could arrange sufficient space between guests. Likewise the pool. You booked it for an hour, and it was for you and your party alone (in our case just my husband and I). That was luxurious.
It looked like The guests were spread out around the hotel. Certainly there were no other guests on our wing of our floor.
Windows of empty rooms were wide open to circulate fresh air.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, and we loved Vilanova. We live so close by but had never been. We would definitely go back and without a doubt we would stay at Hotel Cèsar again.
The hotel is old and in need of some upgrades.
The rooms are nice, clean and quiet. The TV in the rooms is tiny looking like a computer screen making it difficult to monitor programs.
It has a good terrace, swimming pool and also facilitates massage service. At the top of the building there is a bar with a wonderful view, but it was closed.
The Hotel has an aggregate restaurant serving good quality meals at a good price.
Breakfast could improve if they had scrambled eggs and yogurts of different flavors.
Staff could be a little more friendly and available, thus facilitating contact with customers.
I hope to come back
This was a very nice hotel which looks like it has been recently redecorated. It was quiet when we visited and we didn't use the restaurant for evening meals or breakfast. The pool is small but looks nice and the roof terrace is a nice place to sit. The hotel is only about 60 metres from the road that runs along the seafront. There are plenty of places to eat and drink along the front (5-10 mins walk) as well as main town (10-20 mins walk).
We used the trains to get into Barcelona - they run every 15/20 mins and cost 16 Euros return. The train to/from the airport is also easy to use - use the main service to Barcelona Sants and change at El Prat de Llobregat and then onto Vilanova. The walk to Sitches is up and down and some of it on the ballast alongside the railway track - we got the train back!
All in all, a lovely base to see Barcelona as well as giving almost immediate access to the sea and the sand.
We had a week of business meeting at the hotel and had a great experience, the place is calm, clean, well maintained and the staff is extremely nice and helpful. There is a pool and a sauna as well as a restaurant and a bar. It was ideal for the kind of meetings we had.
A cute little family run hotel near the beach. For what we paid, it was good value. The pool is small but does the job. A couple of things to note. Firstly, if you want to use the sauna you need to let reception know an hour in advance, as it is not on all the time. Secondly, up on the top floor there is a great open air terrace which nobody told us about and was completely empty apart from ourselves. It was great up there, warm enough to sunbathe when the beach was a bit too windy. We only found it through exploring. I found the pictures of people asleep all over the hotel a little creepy. It is about 15 minutes walk from the old town, we liked the location. As elsewhere in Catalonia, we found the people here nice enough but very detached, holding back. The opposite of a warm welcome.
