Travelers, be aware:
Booked and paid upfront by direct deposit many months prior to arrival for the 2 storey house.
It suited our needs for 2 adults and an 11 year old, as recommended by owner via email communication.
Booked direct with owner to avoid ANY problems.
Then we arrived.
House double booked.
We were NOT contacted a week prior to our stay to explain the double booking, as claimed by staff No 2........owner Megan is in complete denial of any stuff up on her part here regarding our booking and offers no apology whatsoever, but has made excuses that don't match what other staff told us and what we saw in person.
Then we were offered a villa as a free upgrade....sounds nice ha? Not really, no deal killers as such, but a lot of little issues which had the cumulative effect of diminishing the experience, and we were still separated with a non connecting bedroom, which was also in another building next to the villa.
In one reply, owner Megan suggested one of us could have slept on the 'couch'
So we forfeited our money and checked out early, preferring to pay again for good accommodation.
Never felt compelled to do that before.
When I contacted the owner Megan, who is not onsite, to explain why we left early and were unsatisfied,
unbelievably she unleashed a tirade of abuse quite inexplicably as we did not want a refund!
An example:
"Are you serious, we do not have a 2 storey house''
Enough said.

I am sorry but this is totally untrue so dumbfounded how to reply.....we don’t not have a two story house but we do have upstairs and downstairs rooms...both not connected but has outside staircase... I’m sure people who read these can determine for themselves... we get yearly Trip Advisor awards and hundreds of repeat guests which shows our dedication and reputation .... also sorry I never met you as I was in Bali buying supplies... my staff/management did their best to make you happy but unfortunately you told them it was to hot and you wanted to go to lombok.... My partner and I had a wonderful holiday staying at elephant house which was metres from the beach. the place was clean,the staff were helpful, the gardens were lush and the swimming pool was fresh and clean. The accommodation was comfortable air-conditioned with a safety box,television and DVD player. the room was cleaned daily And a lovely breakfast was served. I will certainly go back again

Yes, this time you can believe the praise lavished in a TripAdvisor review about The Elephant House Bungalows on Gili Air because, quite simple, it’s the truth.
The location IS perfect, the grounds ARE beautiful and spacious, the staff ALWAYS are smiling and helpful, the food IS delicious, and the property spotlessly maintained. Thanks your a fabulous team, because if one area is less than perfect, the domino effect would occur...but it doesn’t.
As we spent most of this visit lazing by the pool for seven days, a particular kudos to the pool temp the water was fresh and inviting, I describe just how looked and welcome we felt, leaving us to feel so wonderful. Nothing was a issue and we didn't have to ask twice for anything, the manager who stayed on site was always making sure my frail husband was delivered to either the room or our desired spot to rest, in perfect safety.
We genuinely love this property, and hope to be able to return again, in the near future, to recharge our ageing batteries.

Stayed at Elephant House Bungalows for 4 nights, could have stayed longer. Room was very clean and spacious with a groovy bathroom with pebbled walls and a stone wash basin. Mozzie net, air con, fridge, tv and dvd player. Pool was great to chill out in after snorkelling on the beach in the mornings. Situated in a quiet garden with only a few other bungalows, there's plenty of room to relax. Staff were very helpful but keep a low profile. Sunset drinks on the beach are a 2 minute walk away. Love it!

My parter and I stayed here for 5 nights late May and we absolutely loved it. The bungalows are nestled a track back from the busy Gili Air walking/riding track so it was super private and relaxing. To the friendly family who manage the bungalows, you made our stay very comfortable providing maps and directions...plus restocking the mini bar (bless). Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. We would reccommend to anyone who is looking for a fuss free, comfortable and authentic experience of Gili Air!
