We had room #9 and loved this place. Very comfortable - friendly people - great location. I am not a very fussy person, nor do I need a lot of extras. Just a short drive to the beach which you can also drive on the beach, kind of fun. Shopping up town was fun as well. I want to come here again and spend a week here, see you again.
Each room is eclectic and different in this small, local motel. Unfortunately they were listed as allowing pets on booking.com, but they don't so we had to rush to find a dog sitter. As to amenities, there is a laundry room, a fire pit, sort of working wifi and a large VHS library. The internet mostly didn't work, even though they had a booster in our unit and we tried using it in the laundry room as recommended.
Our room #9 at the end had a VHS player, flat screen TV, cable, mini fridge, microwave, plates, cups (dirty), silverware, coffee maker, coffee packets + cream & sugar. They had soap, shampoo and a shower cap provided in the bathroom with plenty of towels. The shower head was at about 5', so no need to use the shower cap for most of us! Excepting the cups, everything important was nice and clean, but there was a horrifying amount of cobwebs coating the walls and ceiling. Our bed had a canopy! Fun, but kinda gross since you know it isn't washed regularly. The bed was incredibly comfortable- firm, but pillow topped. The sound of rain on the metal roof was wonderful, the heat was strong and the motel is only 2 blocks from the beach and about 3 from the start of the business strip.
The only real negative thing was the people next door fighting the first night, calling in the police at 4am the second night and then adding a screaming child to their nightly fighting ritual on the third night. We didn't complain to the owners, so I'm not sure if they were aware. These people's lives seemed so crappy, we decided not to add to their troubles, but just politely, repeatedly, asked them to shut up and try to respect each other.
Overall, I was really charmed by this affordable, quirky motel. They have everything important you need- not having strong wifi or DVD players is a reminder to get your butt outside and explore (even when it's 26 degrees and hailing). My one wish would be for them to do a deep room clean every 6 months or so.
This quaint little mom and pop motel has all that you really need for a stay at the beach. Our room had all the basics - comfy bed, couch, TV, dining table, kitchenette, and bathroom. You're going to the coast. You don't need anything else in a hotel room. Helen and Stan, the delightful owners, do have videos for guests to borrow for those times when the weather doesn't cooperate. And just 2 blocks from the beach, you really can't beat the location.
An older hotel, all the rooms are different. Visit the property's website for details. We booked a suite - Room#3 - that included a full kitchen (except no conventional oven) and a separate bedroom. Bathroom had shower, no bathtub. The kitchen includes basic cookware, cutlery, dishes, etc, they expect you to wash up afterward.
The suite was stuffed with about as much furniture as could possibly fit. But it worked, we enjoyed our stay. It was great to be able to prepare some of our own meals, as the dining in Ocean Shores is okay but nothing special. They have a charcoal BBQ for guests, which I used one afternoon to grill some chicken (they prefer you bring your own charcoal, which I knew in advance). There is a pleasant sitting area surrounding the BBQ. There is also a fire pit, there was wood provided, but we did not utilize it during our stay.
The property was very quiet, minor exception is birds land on the roof periodically, they make some sound.
The TV set up is old, includes a DVD and VCR, and you can borrow movies for free from the hotel office.
Our hosts were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Unpretentious people, to borrow a word used by another reviewer.
No pets allowed, good thing in my opinion. Location very convenient to beach and town. Room was very clean.
We had a terrific stay.
A true mom and pop motel, completely unpretentious, but with everything you could possible need. I've stayed here dozens of times. The owners are extremely nice. The have rooms with kitchens that are actually more like cabins or suites. An excellent value.
