Stayed 3 nights for business purposes. First room had a pool of water on the floor and the icebox was broken. I was moved to the second room and unpacked. When I turned on the a.c. unit, it began loudly screeching and didn't stop. I repacked and was moved again to a 3rd room. That night I woke up itching at 2 am and saw a small green bug on the fitted sheet. I was itchy and didn't sleep well the rest of the night. Second night I sprayed the mattress and edges with alcohol since I'm sensitive to pesticides and didn't want to move again. The area hotels were all booked for a special event that weekend or I would have left. I slept ok the second night.
The third night I woke up itching again and found more bugs. I took photos to show the manager. I asked for a partial refund as I had only 1 night of sleep. After multiple calls, to follow up, he keeps coming up with the excuse that the exterminator hadn't come yet to inspect the room. No refund or discount offered. Miserable place. Don't go if you plan to get a good night's sleep.
If you are visiting or passing through, this is the best deal. There are other hotels in the town but they are either run down or super expensive. This Motel 6 gives you the feel of the fancier hotels but for the price of the cheaper ones. The rooms were modern and comfortable. The property is very well kept and the pool was super clean even though it was too cold outside to swim. There is even a barbecue pit area outside in case you want to relax, eat and enjoy the clear skies.
Our priorities for this trip were that the property be clean, safe, and economical.
Motel 6 Stephenville hit on all points.
It's an older property with uniquely renovated rooms. Very different from the standard motel look. Beds and pillows were comfortable.
Housekeeping even added a nice touch by arranging our youngest daughters stuffed animals nicely in her pillow. Very cool.
Surprisingly, the shower enclosure was not part of the renovation and really should have been.
My biggest dings for this place are the lack of attention to detail kinda of stuff. Door seals that need replacing; trim and door in bathroom need touch up paint; lawn and pool landscape need a haircut; walkways could stand a pressure washing.
All in all, a solid value considering the price point.
We had a bad experience at another low cost motel in town but Motel 6 may become our lodging of choice when visiting our daughter at Tarleton.
This is an older property but is well maintained. The room was spacious and the bathroom was especially clean. A mini refrigerator was included in the room rate. If you are a stay over guest you must request that they change your sheets daily if you so desire. Otherwise they only change them on the third day of your stay.
There was a large grassy area outside of our door with several large shade trees that were beautiful. They also had several park benches along the pool area that were inviting. The pool was closed for repair while we were there so that was a little disappointing.
The breakfast beverages included coffee, milk and orange juice. The food selection was bananas, plain oatmeal, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, doughnuts, and bagels.
The breakfast area was very dimly lit as if they were hiding something. I saw what looked like fruit flies or gnats in the area. But they also had a large flat screen TV and some home theatre furnishings in the area as well. So that was nice.
There is a Pit Barbecue restaurant very near this hotel and the smell from the cooker carries. It was absolutely mouth watering. Unfortunately we did not get around to eating there but maybe next time. We would definitely choose this property again.
First of all its the hardest thing trying to find a decent hotel in Stephenville...especially around Rodeo season. When we got the the hotel there were a lot of people checking in but surprisingly the wait was only a couple of minutes before we got our room. Our room was right next to the pool and was very clean. We needed extra towels and it didnt take more than 5 minutes for them to get them to us, even though it was 11:00 at night. The owner greated us at the breakfast area and asked if we needed anything extra. We were there for 4 days and it was just great. Close to the Rodeo and some great restaurants. I would recommend this hotel.
