Our first time on safari and feel we struck gold. The camp was absolutely beautiful and we were so well looked after by the exceptional staff. We lucked out by having the kids in the gorgeous family lodge while we were in the Honeymoon lodge at the opposite ends of the camp (both with plunge pools and stunning views). Food was incredible - we particularly enjoyed the quaint way the menu was announced! And Giles’s Masai spear demonstration was a gas! Habibu was the perfect guide for our family and the game viewing exceeded all expectations. We wholeheartedly recommend Ikuka for those looking for a warm and welcoming, luxury experience.

Words honestly cannot describe how truly special this place is and we could not be more delighted that we chose to spend four nights of our Tanzanian honeymoon at Ikuka. Every inch of the camp is truly captivating.

The moment we landed in Ruaha, we were completely blown away by the beauty and remoteness of the park itself. We were met by our wonderful guide Geofrey, who greeted us with the warmest of welcomes, cold water in our own personal Ikuka bottles, freshly baked cookies and a brief explanation of the plan for the day. Fortunately, this started with our own private game drive on route back to Ikuka whereby we spotted many animals within the first 30 minutes (including a large leopard lying on the side of the road!) We could not believe how densely populated with animals the park was and Geofrey was incredible at finding many different animals on every drive.

We arrived at the camp around lunchtime and were greeted by the lovely Ikuka family with waves, smiles, a delicious cold beverage and wet towel. Immediately it felt like home. We were given a brief tour of the camp and felt completely overwhelmed and speechless by not only the beauty of the camp's design, but the absolutely impeccable views over the reserve. Every tiny detail within the camp had been thought of, from the overall design of the communal areas and rooms to general customer comfort.

Our stunning honeymoon room (room 6) more than exceeded expectations - it was enormous and so beautifully designed. Each room is built around the view, bringing the outdoors in, but making you feel totally at one with nature. The open living room, bedroom and bathroom overlooked the reserve and we enjoyed watching the birds from our refreshing plunge pool on our balcony between game drives! The staff even laid out gorgeous white stones in the shape of C & L with a heart on our porch for our arrival.
Ikuka expertly blends luxury with the great outdoors and we are so grateful to the wonderful staff for sharing their love for Ruaha with us.

Thank you to our fantastic guide, Geofrey, for teaching us more then we could have ever expected to learn about the bush and for answering our many questions. Thank you for the very early morning game drives, breakfasts in the bush, sundowners and snacks around sunset (maisharefu & GONGA!) and the unforgettable stories that you shared with us! We were very lucky to have Geofrey as our guide and he has given us memories that will last a lifetime. He was also kind enough to share all his amazing photographs with us, some of which have already made it onto our walls! His knowledge of the bush, ability to locate animals by their tracks, understanding of animal behaviour and movement and general passion and love for his job made us feel so grateful to spend every day with him. He worked SO incredibly hard to give us the best possible experience and we very much enjoyed swapping life stories with him over drinks every evening. Geofrey, you are one of a kind and a real asset to the Ikuka family!!

Thank you so much to Tommy and Chevy for looking after us so well - you welcomed us like family and we enjoyed our many conversations with you. Your positive energy and enthusiasm, as well as your company at the communal dinners, was a real highlight! Thanks for also supplying us with hot water bottles, blankets and delicious coffee every morning... as well as beers every afternoon and warm towels with an amarula shot every evening. It's the little things that really go a long way and we loved all of this!

Thank you to Mustafa and Nangi for teaching us and keeping us safe on our fascinating walking safari. We learnt so much more about the bush and were even lucky enough to spot a giraffe running in the distance! We were also extremely surprised and humbled by the amazing bush breakfast spread that you gave us as the end of our walk - very special indeed!
Thank you to Saif, Torres, Exaud, and Davis for the wonderful service with a smile and for helping us with our Swahili - Asante sana! We absolutely adored your "Jambo Bwana" dance for another guest's birthday and have been singing that song every day since... Thank you to Chuma for taking such good care of us during our unforgettable private bush dinner under the stars on our last night.
Thank you also to Swai for being the best askari for and keeping us safe at night (despite me hoping to spot Jasper and the pesky honey badger!). Finally, a special thank you to those that we didn't spend as much time with - the chefs, cleaners, other askaris and all other staff. The food was spectacular (so delicious and beautifully presented), rooms were always clean and turn-down service was lovely to come back to every evening, and the camp always felt so cosy.
We will forever cherish the feeling of peace and gratitude we felt every night, looking up at the milky way on our balcony and seeing more stars than we've ever seen anywhere on earth. I wish we could have bottled up the excitement, wonder and constant joy that we felt every second at Ikuka - it's the perfect place to switch off and experience the sheer beauty of the remote wilderness.
Thank you for having us and we already can't wait to return!! We 100% recommend Ikuka to anyone looking for the BEST safari experience that you could ever imagine. It's a slice of paradise in the Ruaha bush and once you step foot in camp... you will never want to leave. We both left a piece of our hearts at Ikuka.

As someone has been on a fair few safaris across sub-Saharan Africa, the top camps and lodges seamlessly showcase you the wonders of the park you are in yet subtly enhance it at the same time. Ikuka is one of those places and definitely ranks in my opinion as on of Tanzania's very best safari outfitters.

There are so many reasons why Ikuka is a must visit, some of which you just have to go and find out for yourself, but my top 3 would be the below:

Location - having stayed at most of the other camps in Ruaha National Park, Ikuka has by far the best view. Set on an escarpment overlooking the Mwagusi River Valley (the prime game viewing area in the park), every room and the main area are treated to sweeping panoramas of mountains, savanna and meandering rivers. Picture postcard stuff. Ruaha itself is a gem of a park. Far away from the overcrowded northern safari circuit, a journey here is a rekindling of the safari days of old. With a good guide (see below), it is very easily possible to go on a game drive and not see another soul (especially outside July/August high season) and the scenery and game viewing does not disappoint.

Staff - You can tell from the moment you arrive that the owners want a laid back homely feel (you are on holiday after all!) that avoids the stuffy hospitality-course taught formality that so many luxury safari camps exhibit these days. Mark, owner/walking guide, has assembled a friendly bunch, who go about their business with ease and are wholly encouraged to chat and engage, yet knew when to leave me alone to enjoy my book (complete with gin and tonic) around the pool. Housekeeping was spot on, as were the chefs who had a healthy yet wholesome menu on point each day.

Activities - the migrants birds at this time of year were exceptional (Ruaha has over 580 species in all) as well as seeing lots of young impala, zebras and other mammals bouncing around. The rivers were high and the bush was extremely lush, a great contrast to the dusty bare summer months of previous visits. Signs of predators were always around, and I did see lions twice during my stay. My excellent guide, Festo, informed me that the greener season had been bringing better sightings of smaller predators such as serval, caracal and wild dogs whilst the drier months leopard and lions moved in and were seen daily. Having done the odd walking safari on my previous visits at other camps, I was looking forward to doing one with Mark - something that friends of mine whom had stayed said was a highlight. However, unfortunately on this occasion the rains had been such that the grass was too long and safety had to come first - something that I was nevertheless pleased the camp took as a priority.

All in all the combination of stunning views, endearing staff amidst one of East Africa's truly wild national parks, I can't recommend a stay here enough. Looking forward to going back sooner rather than later!

Ikuka was our last camp of three on our very first safari adventure, and it was a perfect choice. The gathering lounge/bar/and dining area are stunning. There is also a lovely loft that houses a shopping area and has a beautiful view of the dramatic infinity pool below.
The accommodations are immaculate and beautiful. There are breath-taking views from the ensuite decks. In addition to the bedroom area; there is a comfy couch for relaxing, no luxury is overlooked. In the spacious bathroom, you will find five-star amenities including authentic kangas for guests to wear during their stay. Food and beverage options would not disappoint a serious foodie, and the staff anticipates your every need. Every staff member genuinely cares and goes over the top to make each guest feel special and ensure that all guests are blown away by their experience.

The game drives are amazing. Ruaha really is in the bush. Our guide, Luca was outstanding. Luca was an expert driver, and while he was driving he was also spotting animals and ensuring we were not hit by brush along the paths. The wildlife viewing is superb in the park. We had wonderful experiences in our first two camps, but still saw and discovered something new during every game drive in Ruaha. Luca also found the perfect spot for our sundowners during every evening game drive. And, we were greeted by the staff and served a lovely liquor upon our return to camp each evening.
A big thank you to Jake, Mark, Luca, Lillie, and Annie..as well as all the staff members who made our stay memorable. Kudos to all of you...it was a perfect visit.

This is "Glamping" at the highest level. I thoroughly recommend Ikuka. You will be spoilt. The camp is located in top of a hill with magnificent views across the Ruaha National Park. Our tent was extremely comfortable and plushly decorated. The food was first class. You are hosted by Mark and eat communally with the other guests, which we really liked.

We were up every morning at 6am for the morning safari at 6.30am. Amazing wildlife to be seen. Ruaha is less busy than other parks in Tanzania so we rarely came into contact with other visitors around the park. A delicious breakfast was served by our driver during the morning. Back for lunch at the camp, swim in the infinity pool and out again at 4pm for the evening safari including "sundowners' on route.

Great experience!
