I struggle for the words to capture our stay at Londolozi. Magical. Epic. Extraordinary. None of these do our five night stay at Granite Suites Justice. The camp was newly renovated - finished the week before we arrived - and it was incredible. The suites are designed to bring the outside in with huge windows and sliding doors with screens to allow the night sounds of the bush put you to sleep. An outdoor shower, a tub and plunge pool on the deck, the most comfortable bed. Amazing privacy. With an incredible view of the river, game viewing is as simple as looking outside. Elephant, nyala, bushbuck, monkeys, baboons were all viewed from the privacy of our deck.

A truly private experience - there are only 3 Granite Suites with a maximum of 6 people in the camp. The Granite Suites Lodge is designed to allow you to connect with the other people staying at Granite or to maintain your romantic solitude - we had a perfect mix of socializing and privacy orchestrated by Granite Camp's manager, Graeme. Truly can't say enough about Graeme - he listens and picks up the nuances of your likes, interests, etc and incorporates these things into your experiences flawlessly. He takes such pride in his art of hospitality and it shows. Everyone at Granite Camp makes the experience special - the best food, the best wines, the best service.

The game viewing is extraordinary at Londolozi but it's the Ranger and Tracker that make the experience spectacular. Our Ranger/Tracker team of James and Richard were amazing - taking care of us, making sure we were comfortable, sharing their knowledge, and truly enjoying each sighting as much as their guests. Watching these two work as a team made the safari experience that much more fun. The communication from James to his guests was phenomenal - always telling us what was going on, what we were looking for, and what the plan was. And since I'm just barely an amateur photographer, James was always ready with camera tips, tricks and settings so I could get some amazing shots...and always conscious of positioning the vehicle for just the right lighting, too.

A few shout outs:
Schedule time with the photographic studio. They turn your photos into works of art. Absolutely worth the hour of time!
Schedule a massage! Elephants trumpeting in the background, water running over the granite rocks, gentle breeze, the African sun and the most caring therapist you'll ever have...best massage ever!

I could go on and on and on...Simply Magic.

We are not fond of repeating vacations - we love to experience new things...but both my husband and I said after our first night at Londolozi that we would have to come back. After five nights, we knew Londolozi was going to be a place we would return to again and again. Arrive as guests, leave as family...

Dear L-in-CLT What an incredible review of your time at Granite Camp - thank you so much for taking the time to write it for us. We could not wish for more from our guests in terms of feedback, and I'm delighted that everything about your experience has led you to consider returning again (even though you love to experience new things...). I'm thrilled that you experienced the photography studio and that your massage was so memorable - it really is something special to experience the river and the view in that way. I will most certainly pass on your thoughts to Graeme, his team and the rest of the Londolozi Family as they all love to hear it. We do hope that you'll be back to visit us again very soon. Much love, Your Londolozi Family

Our stay at the private granite suites was incredible. The suites are gorgeous, modern and the bathroom huge with an open shower. They also have an outdoor shower which is great. We saw elephants walk along the dry river bed. We also had a private plunge pool - we were in suite 2. We also enjoyed a massage outdoors behind our suite.

My husband and I enjoyed a 7 night stay at Granite Camp with the added luxury of a private vehicle. Granite is already exclusive with just 3 villas to the camp so the choice of a private vehicle meant this holiday was exclusively our own - celebrating our 2021 milestone birthdays, and a delayed celebration of a milestone anniversary from 2020 (thank you Covid). Having stayed at Granite Camp in 2018, and Varty Camp in 2019, we knew we were in for a special week but as is always the case with Londolozi, there are surprises around every corner and expectations are always exceeded.

Led by ranger Patrick and tracker Dorence, we were treated to amazing moments in the bush. Countless leopards (including a still-blue-eyed cub), rhinos having a territorial dispute, plenty of birding including a Secretary Bird (thanks to the unbelievable eyes of Dorence!), lions galore, rhinos having a territorial dispute, elephants, honey badgers (a true highlight), and so much more. We were able to see the partnership of our ranger and tracker team in action time and time again...perhaps the best was Dorence spotting drag marks on a northern boundary road and taking the time to track the leopard into the bush, finding the kill and deciding to come back on the afternoon drive to find the beautiful Piccadilly female and her sub adult cub feeding. To have Dorence and Patrick share a tracking experience from beginning to end with us - explaining the tracks in the road through each step in the decisioning process - was priceless. And we will always remember those huge grins when they tracked the Ntsevu sub adults feeding on the remains of a kill. We enjoyed every moment on the vehicle with Pat and Dorence; and enjoyed the moments off the vehicle as well getting to know them and sharing in their passion of the wildlife.

Granite Camp is a special place - 7+ star service at every moment. Camp Manager Angie and Butler Nomsa made walking on to Granite Deck special at every greeting and we looked forward to seeing them daily. Nomsa was always ready with anything we asked for, remembering the smallest details and always ready with a warm smile and laugh - there is a sparkle in her eyes that is truly contagious. Angie knew exactly how to create the private moments we were looking for, reading between the lines and understanding exactly what we needed before we ever asked. Angie was the constant thread across every experience while we were at Londolozi, tying everything together perfectly - quietly in the background making sure everything was up to her level of perfection as a host. We enjoyed her laughter and stories, and enjoyed the private times too. Angie, there aren't enough ways for us to say thank you - you will be missed.

Granite Villa 1 is perfect solitude - a plunge pool with waterfall, outdoor shower, covered and sun touched seating. We were treated to elephants daily, and even a male leopard crossing the rocks one morning. All amenities are well thought through - often with gentle reminders of the conservation focus that is Londolozi. Everything you could need is provided and all the things you don't realize you need are there too. We enjoyed the curated books and artwork and the thoughtful touches of decor throughout.

The food at Granite Camp is beyond exceptional; breakfast, lunch and dinner never disappoint. So many selections, and each balanced just perfectly. I'm not sure I could call out a favorite food during our stay; each meal was a culinary treat worth savoring in that moment.

It was also a joy to connect with people we had met on previous trips. We know the people at Londolozi touch the lives of so many guests day in and day out, so to make us feel like family for the few days we are there each year is the real magic of Londolozi. There is a warmth and genuine heart to the people here which will always bring us back.

There are so many people who touched our lives while at Londolozi for our 8 days, not just the people I highlighted here - each deserves all the praise we can give. There isn't a moment we could look back on and wish it were better or different except to say we wish we had stayed longer.

Dear, BallantyneTravel Thank you so much for writing us such a wonderful review. We are so thrilled to hear about your time at the Private Granite Suites. 7 nights allows you enough time to truly have the Londolozi safari experience and a private vehicle is the cherry on top! We are glad to hear that on your third visit you were still surprised around ever corner. Pat and Dorence make for a fantastic team - we shall definitely pass on your kind words to them. It appears you had some wonderful sightings with them! Experiencing a tracking experience from start to finish is so thrilling and truly give you an idea of the skill needed to find these animals. The Granite Team will be so happy to hear about your time with them. We will definitely send this onto Angie and Nomsa. We are thrilled that you experienced the magic of Londolozi yet again. We hope you will be back again for a fourth visit. Until then, Much Love, Your Londolozi Family

If you’re looking for ‘the place’, the ‘best there is’ and can’t seem to wade through all of the marketing and reviews of various lodges, hopefully this review will help you.

In choosing which safari lodge to stay at, we did more research and reading of reviews than we ever have. We have stayed in the best hotels in the world and we wanted this safari experience to be no different. The trick was, there were a lot of good ones; but in all our research we noticed that the travel industry professionals who had been and stayed at many of the really good safari-lodges always recommended Londolozi Private Granite Suites above everything else - so ultimately this is where we decided to stay.

Having now spent four days there, I am happy to report that this was one of the best holiday experiences we have ever had and I know why the professionals single this one out! Londolozi Private Granite Suites offers a relaxed luxury that I had never seen perfected anywhere - until now.

The staff were key to it all. Graeme and Alice were our camp hosts. They’re young, fun and have an uncanny ability to tailor your holiday around what you want. A little example: on our first night they established we preferred Chardonnay and Gin so at each meal they pulled special bottles from their cellar for us and on another evening, set up a private gin-tasting station in the middle of the park - complete with lanterns, big bowls of ice filled with different gins and tonics. Truly once-in-a-lifetime stuff. They make it look easy but there is clearly a huge amount of work behind the scenes which makes it all appear seamless to the guest.

Our guide was Guy and our tracker was Elmon. Clearly the ‘A-team’; I would highly recommend requesting a private car with these guys as your guide and tracker for the duration of your stay. Guy is an all-round good bloke but has an exceptional knowledge of the fauna and flora, a fresh enthusiasm for what he does and a serious passion for photography. Elmon doesn’t actually know how old he is (great story) but he grew up on the reserve and has worked with the Varty brothers who established and still own and run Londolozi today. The stories Elmon can tell of the ‘old days’ give you a real sense of being on a family property and hearing the Varty brothers and their now adult children on the UHF radio gives the whole experience an authenticity that other lodges simply can’t offer. Guy and Elmon make a great pair: Guy has a competitive streak wanting you to see a bit more than all the other guests and Elmon knows the place like the back of his hand making it all possible. We are beyond grateful for the time they spent with us and thank them both for making our holiday amazing.

The facilities themselves are also exceptional. Londolozi Private Granite Suites has only just re-opened after a major renovation. The rooms are huge and overlook the river. All have their own pools and the decor is amazing. Housekeeping are also the un-sung heroes - the place is immaculate (as you would expect) but your room is fully made-up three times per day while you are out on your two game drives and while you’re at dinner so you never see them. Laundry was also included each day which was a great touch.

Finally, the food! Typically the weak-point of remote locations, the food here is exceptional: fresh seafood, beautifully cooked steaks, vegetarian options - you will be spoilt for choice. And Robbie, the host for breakfast, lunch and dinner will spoil you a little more anyway. I will also miss Nico when I get home - he wakes you up daily with a hot beverage of your choice, some biscuits and hot water bottles for the game drive.

The Varty brothers should be very proud of what they have created and very pleased that their vision and passion is alive and well in each and every one of the staff members we encountered. Thank you - to all of you.

And to all future guests, we hope you enjoy your stay at Londolozi Private Granite Suites as much as we did. There are plenty of amazing surprises I deliberately left out of my review so you too can be surprised when you visit. If you can’t get into Private Granite Suites (there are only three), the other camps are also exceptional and share the same drivers, trackers and the rooms are similarly stunning. Enjoy!

Dear cain_beckett Wow! Thank you so much for your amazing review. I found myself getting lost in the description of your stay, and had to remind myself at the end that it was a trip advisor review and not a blog post! I am delighted that Alice, Graham, Robbie, Guy and Elmon took such amazing care of you, and made your stay so special. A glass or two of craft gin in the bush sounds incredible! I will also pass on your feedback to the greater Londolozi team, as Nico, the housekeeping team and the kitchen team all love to hear reviews like yours. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back again very soon for another visit! Much love, Your Londolozi Family

This was our fourth Christmas at Granite Suites, and yet again the experience was just magical. The staff and service made this the perfect holiday.

Lucian and Nadia really were the perfect hosts for us, and the previous team (Kate and David) made time to come visit us. Not to mention that Duncan - he really has the X factor.

We loved spending the afternoons by the infinity pool watching all of the wildlife stroll down the Sand River.

Londolozi - Thank you for another special Christmas, and we will see you all again soon.
