I could never say enough good things about my stay at Candlewood Suites in Slidell.
The room was outstanding. Updated, clean, comfortable, quiet, well equipped. Full sized refrigerator, stove top, dishwasher, microwave. Comfortable bed, good lighting, multiple seating options, roomy closet. Bring your groceries and cook a meal. All the cookware and dinnerware you want is in the room. Anything else you need is probably available from the “Loan Center” near the front desk. There’s also a store next to the lobby with whatever food and drink items you want. There are washers and dryers available to use for free. One of the better exercise rooms I’ve seen in a while, and an indoor pool! It’s ideal for an extended stay. I can’t think of a way to make the experience better other than to make it longer.
While the room and amenities were great, what makes Candlewood in Slidell stand out from other hotels is the staff. Starting with the general manager, Alex Mathis, who was present and involved to a level I haven’t witnessed in the past. From helping the front desk staff by checking in guests during an afternoon rush to training and monitoring housekeeping staff, Alex took the management of the hotel seriously with passion, attention to detail, and wonderful enthusiasm. Alex was always welcoming, engaging, and even though likely very busy, would engage in delightful conversation without seeming put off or rushed. Based on how friendly and genuinely pleasant the staff was during my stay, I’m left with the impression that Alex’s passion and pleasant attitude is passed on to the team. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and warm. I did not get everyone’s name, but I was charmed by each staff member I encountered. Each person made a point to greet me warmly and ask about my stay. During my initial check in, Susan, who was not part of the front desk staff but general sales, took interest in my family’s relocation to the area and offered advice, tips, and her email address for any other inquiries about the area. During my entire two week stay, I felt appreciated by each staff member and only wish I could have hung out with them more.
Bottom line is this: If you’re looking for a hotel anywhere near Slidell, you MUST stay at the Candlewood Suites. Once you do, then like me, you wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
