Stayed here for two nights in the Suite in the Wolvedans at the end of our stay in Namibia for our honeymoon. We had stayed in some amazing accommodation throughout our stay but this was up there with the best.

The Suite has an amazing view down on the plains and the nearby mountain with its own kitchen from which our desert chef made us amazing meals and sitting room on one side of the structure and the bedroom and bathroom to the other side. As you can see the Suite is huge.

We had done plenty of game drives by this stage so we were more interested in taking it nice and easy. We did two drives with their educational guides and while we didn't see that much we learnt a lot about flora and fauna.

Great place to go and the food is probably the best you will get in the whole of Namibia outside of Windhoek.

We stayed in the Mountain View Suite which comes complete with a personal chef and butler plus your own guide and can only say that it was faultless. The vast accommodation was of a very high standard, the service was excellent without being at all stuffy or fussy. The guide showed us some incredible things...the dune cricket was a fantastic find. OK, the suite is not a cheap option but for some luxury and a really special experience, there can't be much better than this.

Flew here with Wilderness Air from Windhoek at the start of our second visit to Namibia. What a beautiful place. All of the staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. The view from the room was exceptional. You also didn't have to go far to see the local gemsbok, during the day they sheltered under your room from the sun or drank from the water hole in front of the lodge. Food was very good and served in the main around a family dining table with impressive table decorations. Our guide, Lister was very knowledgeable and all of the drives were stunningly beautiful. There were some great sundowner spots as well. The lodge does laundry so you can pack light. To relax even more have a massage, terrific.
Great hospitality.

Dear Guest Thank you for choosing to stay at Wolwedans, and for your encouraging feedback. The team are most grateful for your praise of their service and culinary offerings. The NamibRand Nature Reserve is beautiful, and we're delighted you loved your stay and all that Wolwedans and the Reserve had to offer. We look forward to welcoming you back to our remote paradise, in the near future. Kind regards, Alison

The arrival road is rather worrying - stone road and very few signposts. However, once at base camp, you leave your car and are taken up by jeep to dunes Lodge. A very friendly welcome awaits, but with some caveats....there are NO plugs in bedrooms (but a charging room behind kitchen), hot water is normally only available early evening....no problem!, Went out on drive with a fascinating guide, Daniel. Remember, this area is more "botanic" than "animal" - he was able to keep us interested for a few hours! Once back at lodge, we were very much pushed to sit down by 8pm for dinner - we weren't allowed to chat over a drink. Dinner was then served very formally - too much in my opinion, and very pretentious. Amouse bouché, soup,,main course and dessert...none of the guests (and we were sitting on a communal table) knew whether the wine was included - we had to sign for EVERY glass! I did ask, and was told that this was to prevent fraud, but, indeed, we were thinking that we had to pay for everything!(And,until our departure, we still didn't know if we had to pay for wine). It was only on checkout, in Dunes Camp, when we were given the bill!!! The soup was sllightly worse than Heinz tomato soup, and the rest of the courses were no better.

Woldewans is amazing for the views. Rooms and staff are very good.

Dear Guest Thank you for taking the time to review the Wolwedans Dunes Lodge. Although you seemed to have enjoyed several aspects of your stay, the meal arrangements seem to have displeased you. It is rather disconcerting that the dinner did not meet with your expectations. Every dinner is a culinary celebration, served with fanfare. Under normal circumstances, every effort is made to ensure that the quality as well as presentation of dinners are first class. The chef will certainly be notified of your food complaint and steps will be taken to maintain a consistent level of quality of meals at Wolwedans. Kind regards Magdalena

The setting of Wolwedans Dune Lodge is mind-blowingly beautiful. At every turn, the views take your breath away. Our guide Elias was superb, extremely knowledgeable and hit just the right note. However, for us, that was the extent of the positives. On arrival we were met by the manager Eric who has clearly been in his job too long. He was so laid back that he gave the impression that he didn't care whether we had a good time or not. We were there from 12th-14th August and having read other reviews can only assume that the usual chef and other members of staff were away on holiday. The food was average at best - stale toast at breakfast and weak, tepid, instant coffee. The evening meal was a 5 course affair served with a fanfare but the quality of the food was really disappointing. There were several members of staff who were doing a month's work experience whilst we were there and a couple of them bordered on being rude and had not been sufficiently trained. Our tent was very nicely presented with antique furniture, 4-poster bed and was very spacious but we were not comfortable due to the freezing cold weather. Hot water bottles should have helped but on our second night the housekeeping staff were so slack that the previous night's water bottle (which had gone cold) was simply shoved back in my bed without being re- filled! It would have been funny had we not been so teeth-chatteringly cold. A tea/coffee tray is delivered to the room each morning but on both days the 'hot' water in the thermos flask was so tepid that it was impossible to brew a cup of tea. Due to the camp being run on solar power, we couldn't even have a hot shower at night or first thing in the morning to help warm us up. This was our last stop on our 14 day tour and when planning the holiday we thought we'd saved the best till last. How wrong we were. I'm sure that in warm weather and with their normal staff it would be gorgeous but we left feeling hugely disappointed and ripped off.

Dear Guest Thank you for staying at Wolwedans. We appreciate your candid feedback, and are most concerned that we failed to deliver the "Wolwedans experience" for which we are renowned. Our hospitality manager is investigating each point you raised, as many of the items are basic deliverables, and unforgivable if not done so. Our solar geysers usually deliver hot water for a late afternoon/early evening shower, albeit not piping hot for a long leisurely shower in winter - they need more sunshine to heat up the next day. We hope that you raised your concerns with your guide, who in turn would have passed your feedback on to management. Our sincere apologies for the lack of service delivery - we trust that some of the positives could contribute to fond memories of your stay. Kind regards ALison
