I recently booked 4 nights at the Wesley via Air Bnb for my boyfriend and I. We stayed on a Monday and checked out on a Friday. Because we were in Palm Springs during the week in July, it was very quiet at the property which was amazing for us. I believe there was one other unit out of the 10 that was occupied but we didn't see our neighbours and had the pool and common area to ourselves.
Our unit (#4) was small but perfect for the two of us. It was a queen studio and had all the things we need for our stay at a vacation rental. I have stayed in so many hotels and different rentals in Palm Springs and wanted something with at least a small kitchenette since we were staying for so many days.
The unit has a French press and pourover coffee maker, a mini-fridge which holds enough, a microwave, toaster and a bbq in a little patio area. We bought beans from a local roaster (Koffi) for making coffee and food to grill on the days we didn't dine out. There are plates, utensils, glassware, even oil and spices for cooking as well as foil and saran wrap.
Out by the awesome pool are loungers, daybeds and fun toys like cornhole. There are free bikes with locks which sadly we didn't get to use.
Overall the stay was amazing. My only gripe was there isn't a door or curtain to the shower so it can splash out a lot of water if that bothers you. It was fine and everything dries so quickly in Palm Springs so it worked out.
Would I stay again? 1000000% YES!
Not a fan. This place has a weird vibe. Even when people are there, its eerily quiet. That will vary depending on when you stay here, but in combination with the lack of full time staff, the off the beaten path location and the lack of any onsite food/beverage (ie, no restaurant of coffee shop), it kind of puts a damper on a vacation and gives a weird vibe when using the communal amenities. There's not even a sign that says "The Wesley" outside or anywhere inside. Would be nice if more effort was made to make the place feel like a destination.
The room was nice enough. Just warning that you'll have to keep the blinds drawn if you're in any of the ground floor units; otherwise people will see right into your room. I also HATED the bed. The mattress was very soft and squishy and gave no support at all. A couple nights I slept on the couch because it was more comfortable.
In addition, overall the furniture in our room was pretty worn. The coffee table had scratches everywhere and looked pretty banged up. The sofa had tears and rips where the stuffing was coming out.
The outdoor patio area in the back of our room was also kind of depressing. Even though there was a table and chairs and a small grill, it was always in the shade and looked barren and not inviting at all.
The pool is pretty nice but it drove me nuts that there were no umbrellas for the lounge chairs. They have cabanas which provide shade but they are set back from the pool. If you want to sit in a lounge chair next to the pool you have to do so without shade. Also it would have been nice if there were a couple pool noodles in addition to the inner tubes provided.
Service was ok I guess. You could text the property manager for anything which we had to do since our room didn't have soap or pool towels. But sometimes responses could take a while.
Finally I also really disliked the location. It's not really within walking distance of downtown. I guess you could bike it but I'm not going to be biking to dinner at a nice restaurant. We drove or took uber/Lyft which were quick enough but it would have been nice to be in a more lively location.
Palm Spring Zen
We found apartment 10 at Wesley wonderful and relaxing in every way.
The mid century chic atmosphere with all the comforts of home was highly appreciated.
The spacious 2 bedrooms apartment with comfortable beds, organized and bright, the bathrooms are clean and with large shower too.
The living room possess all the comforts of home with dining area and an exceptionally equipped kitchen, way better than mine in Paris, loved the BBQ by the pool as well. The fire pit on the large table by the pool was a nice touch.
The heated pool and the surrounding lounge chairs allowed us to take advantage of the desert sun in winter. Jacuzzi was a huge plus as well.
I did appreciate the details, such as the 3 different sunscreens by the pool.
The ladies cleaning the place were charming and helpful.
Location was stellar near everything, but on a quiet street, the view of the mountains also enhanced our stay.
We were the only ones there during the week, I imagine the atmosphere more upbeat with other tenants around.
But we did love the quiet privacy too.
Parking right in front.
The manager was very prompt and helpful answering our questions.
I definitely recommend this place, wish I was there for a longer stay.
Cute, relaxing property, but you must remember that without nearby service, response time may be unacceptably slow.
For little things, like when we needed an extra blanket and we asked for it in the middle of the day, it came that afternoon, which was great.
But on the night before Thanksgiving, and the hotel’s outdoor music was still blasting outside and keeping our family of four from falling asleep, the response was much different. We reached out at 10:05 pm and were told that the music is on a timer and should have going off already. Instead of handling our problem right then, we were told to just wait until “10:30 or so” and see if our problem would go away on its own. It didn’t. So we had to reach out again. And it wasn’t until midnight that someone came to the property to turn the music off. 2 hours of wasted sleep on a night before a very busy thanksgiving day was not what any of needed. I’m not sure of anyone in the hospitality industry whose first response is to wait 30 critical minutes before sending someone out who would take 90 minutes to arrive.
Unit 7 was as expected, lightly stocked, and plenty of room for our family or four. The futon in the living room was modern, but not big enough for our two children. Fortunately, there was an air mattress in the closet we were able to use, but the unit was stocked with only one blanket, so night one that’s all they got.
Outdoor area was 5 stars. Plenty of lounge chairs, games, pool toys, and a very nice outdoor kitchen. And the music was a nice touch (during the day).
Excellent 10 suite unit. We stayed in the deluxe queen studio. It was just off the pool as are all the lower suites. We had a small little kitchen with everything it needed and a lovely walled garden space with bistro table and BBQ. The whole site was clean and beautifully maintained as was the studio. Great hot tub and pool as well as lovely pool seating, deck chairs cabañas and bistro tables. A lovely gas fire place table to sit around. Bikes to use. The area around the pool was lovely to sit at day and evening. Elizabeth who assisted us via email and text was excellent. I highly recommend The Wesley!
