This is by far the worst hotel I’ve been to in South Africa. We checked in at 19:00 on Friday 15th October 2020, checked out 21:30 Friday 15th October 2020. We got to the hotel and we were sent from pillar to post about where the reception was, after calling and asking for directions we were finally checked in. We got to the room which wasn’t bad, went to the restaurant for dinner which was an over charged cold subpar buffet. We could’ve cooked a better meal at home. The noise level from TUT students was unbearable, when bringing it to the receptionist attention (Edward) we were told not to mind them as they’d be checking out the next day.

As if that was the worst, there was no hot water in the room meaning we couldn’t take a shower or bath. After reporting the cold water we were advised by both Edward and Brian that the element was off and that there’d be hot water in an hour. We waited for an hour thirty minutes and still no hot water.

This place really is a huge disappointment. We’ve now left the property with no refund and were told we’d be refunded on Monday.

When my fiancé and I booked in. We were very surprised at the size and look of the room as we had booked a Deluxe Suite. The breakfast buffet was fantastic every morning and was never disappointing. These are the only things we can say we enjoyed.

The bed was uncomfortable and on close inspection, we found that it was just the covering of a mattress put over a large piece of wood and a thin piece of foam. We also found that the building was falling apart. The staff at the front desk were friendly but the rest of the staff were unfriendly and unengaging. When we went to go shower there were only 2 towels in the bathroom. A large towel and a hand towel. We also wanted to use the spa bath but there was no bath plug and a note was taped to the wall saying that the jets have been disconnected for hygienic purposes. We then wanted to make coffee and discovered there were no teaspoons. So we decided to phone the reception however, the phone in the room was not working. So we called from our own cellphones a asked for teaspoons and a bath plug. They brought the plug but no spoons. Waited 30 minutes and there was a knock on the door. We got our spoons. We sat down to relax and wanted to connect to the "Free WiFi" only to discover it has no network available. We used the correct password on both our devices. The next morning we headed downstairs and to the main building for breakfast. We took a morning walk around the grounds. To our disappointment it is not very well looked after. We walked to the swimming pool which was very neglected. We also notice that there was a terrible smell coming from the little pond next to the pool area. We then went back to our room to discover that our towels were missing but the room was not made up. When we called reception they told us all the rooms will be done. So we decided to hang out in our room for a while. At lunchtime, we decided to go out for our meal. When we arrived back at the hotel at 14:00 the room was still not made up and we still had no towels. While watching a movie one staff member came to make up the room. She was unfriendly and worst of all was not wearing a mask. That concerned us both. When she was done she still hadn't replaced the towel, toilet paper, coffee or water in the bar fridge. She did however replace one clean cup and left the other dirty one behind. So again it was time to call reception. All these things were brought separately. First the coffee. 10 minutes later the towel. When we asked the staff member for water. She said she replaced but she will bring extra. 15 minutes later she gave us the water. Still no clean cup. Check out the next day was very fast.

I spent two nights at Velmore on a business trip. From the outside it looks large and impressive and the reception area is also very spacious. I checked in and went to my room to find that the plastic leather on the chairs was coming off, the bedding was stained and did not fit the bed and the toilet kept dripping. I requested a different room and this one at least did not have a dripping toilet but the furniture was worn, the lock pulled off the door, the skirting boards were loose and broken and dirty. The shower had mould and the bedding did not fit. The pillows were stained. After chatting to my colleagues they all reported similar issues so we resigned ourselves to sleeping on our clothes with towels over the pillows. We went to the bar area for a drink and the tables were filthy. We asked for them to be wiped down and they were but it was just smearing of the dirt resulting in a greasy film on the glass. The bar tender advised we could have a glass of house wine but they do not have anything else, no wine list. The buffet food was not great but I had crumpets for breakfast one morning and an omelette the next and both were good. It looks like the hotel has not been well maintained since it was built for the 2010 soccer world cup. But the biggest problem is how dirty it is. The toilets in the communal area has broken cisterns, missing floor tiles and leaked on the floor.

The Conference room was nice and cool and well kept and above average, but out of a large group of delegates sleeping over, the accommodation and service was abysmal.
Some were lucky enough to be given a decent room, but numerous colleagues, guests, couldn’t use use their showers as they were so filthy and rancid, Many toilets seats lay next to the toilets 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️hot water didn’t work, the safes were unset....
Rooms derilect and unkept....
The staff at the function were just so Untrained and the management and service unprofessional and sometimes rude- clearly management have no experience and the staff untrained.
Food 6/10 the rest 3/10 ,
Your choice, as our “ scouts” found out, you only see the good when they advertising- don’t say I didn’t warn you as a big group!!!!!

Spent a night at the Hotel and enjoyed a full day Spa too.
Accommodation: Was way beyond our expectation this time around. The Hotel Management afforded us Room #100 because our previous stay was unsatisfactory. The room included a dining room lounge, 2nd bedroom and an extra bathroom. Exquisitely well furnished and stocked with drinks & snacks too.

Full Day Spa: We were pampered from the moment we entered. The hosts, therapists and restaurant staff were simply awesome.

I would certainly recommend the Hotel & Spa to everyone. For those who want Halal meals, there's a few restaurants & takeaways about 2-3 mins away from the complex. There's also a few mosques in Erasmia, making our compulsory prayers so much easier too.
