Perfect location backing on to Florida Road with its plethora of restaurants. Tennis courts in Mitchell Park 2 minutes away at the top of the road and Royal Durban golf course a 15 minute walk in the other direction.
Amazing tropical garden (the monkeys from the park were regular visitors) cultivated over 30 years by the welcoming owners.
We had a large room with loads of storage space. The b'n'b is very spacious with lounges, terraces, pools, a bar area and a breakfast room.
Freshly made breakfast to order from the wonderful Theresa and Celia including splendid home made muffins.
Excellent housekeeping and laundry done on request for a small charge.
And the service is exceptional. Our aircon malfunctioned and Bea, the manageress, immediately offered an alternative room and phoned a tradesperson. We were happy to accept a fan temporarily depending on how long a repair might take. The following day we returned to a brand new airconditioning unit.
We walked locally but if you need a taxi to go further afield Bea can give the number of the wonderfully reliable Jared who also took us to the airport. Bea got up at 05.00 to see us off! Service indeed.
And all this for a fraction of the cost of other places I researched before booking.
We were looked after for 3 weeks as though we were family. Thank you.
We stayed for one night in a beautifully furnished and appointed bedroom that would not have been out of place in a 5 star hotel. Friendly hosts, manager and staff and a slap-up English breakfast enjoyed in a breakfast room set in an enchanted tropical garden. With two swimming pools, off-street parking and direct access to both Innes and Florida Roads, Mythai Guesthouse is a must for the discerning visitor looking for real value for money
We really enjoyed our stay here!! Lillian was the perfect host, giving great advice about places to visit and how to get around. The rooms and public areas are all really comfortable and the pools were just perfect for cooling down in the high heat and humidity! Everything you could need including air conditioning, direct access onto Florida (for restaurants and nightlife) a nearby supermarket and liquor store. A great base for discovering Durban!
This is actually one of my "best kept secrets". I have been a traveller for many years and always seek those off the beaten track for lodging out of the mainstream tourism highways. Mythai is just what the doctor ordered. It is extremely private and hidden between two roads in a pan handle. The vegetation in and around the accommodation is breath taking with a view over the pool at breakfast and another private pool at the back with two room adjoining. The hostess is just a sweetie and the establishment top notch. The shops in the area is all within walking distance and a place to visit during festive seasons when the street come alive with vacation fun seekers. The food, lodging and hospitality is right up there. Definitely a bucket list item for sure.
Stayed for a week over Christmas and were looked after very well by Lilian and her staff. The guesthouse covers three floors climbing up the side of a Morningside hill, with all the rooms nestled within the palms, wooden stairs and decks of a Thai-themed home.
Breakfast by the pool was lovely - cereal, fresh fruit and warm cakes supplemented by your choice of English-style cooked breakfast. Our room was large and airy with a very comfortable king-size bed. Our only issues were some problems with the electrics, which perhaps need a bit of an upgrade, but Lilian soon had it sorted.
We were directed to the nearby park and zoo - and excellent cafe/restaurant - for a Christmas Day outing, and it's worth a short stroll down the road to 'The Cube' for a great view across Durban. The property's other exit leads directly onto Florida Rd with its bars and restaurants - just about enough choice for a week's visit, but the more adventurous may want to venture slightly further to more upmarket offerings. We generally felt safe in the immediate area, even in the evening, but used cabs to go anywhere further afield.
Lilian was always happy to help - especailly when taxis failed to appear - and gave us lots of information in advance, and tips whilst we were there. Thoroughly recommended as a Durban base in a secure neignbourhood.
