Friendly hosts. Almost like visiting family. Lovely views of the bay to the port. Good breakfast with homemade bread & yoghurt and organic juice. Pool for the kids. Friendly and well behaved dogs. The family rooms with a mezzanine for the kids have quite steep steps so perhaps a bit scary for little ones.
Hospitality is outstanding...breakfast is fabulous...the Zebra room is one to die for...the beaches are remarkable, and simply just the best stay. Thank you to Richard and Dee for lending me your snorkel and goggles, the fish were a sight to see in Johnson’s pool. All of your recommendations were spot on and we will definitely be back next year!
We had the most amazing family holiday at Cycads-on-Sea. The destination is close to the main beach, the shops and Granny's pool (which is particularly nice for small children).
The guest house itself also caters brilliantly for families in that there is a swimming pool (which our kids practically lived in), a games area (with various board games, etc on hand) and a nice piece of lawn for kids to play on.
There is also plenty for adults to do with a copious amount of books on offer, a warm cozy bar area and a look-out deck with stunning views.
The breakfasts are amazing and, as an added bonus, Richard and Dee are fantastic hosts who go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome.
We stayed at Cycads on Sea in Feb 2014.
The guest house was lovely. Very clean, and you can see the sea from your room, even if you are not upstairs.
Breakfast is delicious and the pool was a real treat to swim in.
The hosts are very knowledgeable about the area, and even though we were a street or 2 up from the beach (walking distance), they gave us advice on where to take the kids to swim. They also recommended various restaurants in the area and attractions for the children.
Cycads on Sea is has a nice location, overlooking St Francis Bay. Gerhard was extremely welcoming and seemed particularly knowledgeable about the local area and how the town had grown up. The grounds and the swimming pool were extremely well kept also.
Rooms were spacious and bedding was well-provided, but some aspects of the accommodation were a little dated and the bathrooms in particular needed updating.
Breakfast was good and we were well cared for by Gerhard.
St Francis Bay is a nice place and is worth a stopover if you have the time in South Africa.
