I love the villa. The room with a common drawing room, dining room, balcony represents the test of the owner. Again, owner is very helpful & professional.
The villa has lake in one side and sea is also very near.
Reading all the reviews about the lovely staff, i'm not sure how we scored so unlucky.
We arrived back here after checking out the Fort at around 10.30pm to find horrendously loud music. Now i enjoy a good concert and dance session, however, this was like I was sitting on top of the speaker with the volume turned on max. It literally shook the room.
My English friend and I went down to chat to the staff who were all downstairs sitting outside. I really politely asked them what the extremely loud noise was. I was met with barely a look and a simple 'wedding' before they turned away and kept chatting. I then explained that it was insanely loud and impossible to sleep. We were met with no comment, but were met with a whole heap of snickering. I then had to say is there any way we could get the volume turned down a little bit? We were met with more laughing. It was quite awkward as they then started talking Singalese to each other and laughing in front of us, while still ignoring us. After explaining that this was quite rude, the man then left to pretend to make a phone call, while one of the ladies left cause she was laughing so much. We walked away frustrated and shocked.
My boyfriend, who is Sri Lankan in appearance (but really Australian), then went down and spoke to them. He was met with a lovely greeting, full explanation, even an apology! Obviously this was even more frustrating.
I wish the room was a saving grace. My friend had the deluxe double which was lovely. We scored the standard which was really small and squishy with barely any room to put a bag on the floor. The bathroom was full of mosquitos with a separate door which opened onto a public balcony? This could have done with a decent upgrade. Both rooms were very difficult to lock as well.
Maybe this is a once off bad experience, however, I would avoid this place like the plague.
Stayed here for 1 night was definitely well worth it. Nice clean room with big bed. Host is great very nice man. Breakfast was nice fruit platter and omelette. Place is located near the Ocean and a lake which means very cool animals in the area monkeys and monitors! Due your self a favour and stay here!
Best budget villa ever. Bo (Bopage), wife Lanka look after you so well. Play cricket with Sri Lanka's rising star, 8 year old Mahan and food brought to you by 13 yo Sakithya. Any IT problems will be fixed by Bo's sister Kalani who also speaks Japanese. Good Wi-Fi, can in room better than stuck in A/C room. Saw water monitors this morning, sometimes peacocks and porcupines. Have a drink on the upstairs veranda watching monkey's swing from tree to tree. Best happy family experience ever.
Based on reviews here and on other sites we stayed in Windy Garden for a couple of nights in February.
Upon arriving we were surprised that our room was full of mosquitos. The owners suggested that they weren't that bad at that time, but would get worse in the evening. We pointed out that the window above the bed was open to the outside, and perhaps it would be best if they got some mosquito netting on it. To their credit, they did, but it was like this was the first time they'd used this room.
There wasn't a view. The "garden" was largely dirt. On the side was a big pile of garbage. And at the end is the "river", which is not particularly nice and seems to be where the mosquitos are all coming from. You could sit outside on a small porch, but the mosquitos made that a not very pleasant option.
Breakfast was very basic but substantial. Standard toast, egg and fruit. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the positive reviews I'd read.
The bed was very basic. None of what is shown in the pictures. A bit uncomfortable, but not the worst in Sri Lanka. They did get us a nice cot for our baby.
The WiFi simply didn't work.
Location wise it's a 5 minute tuk-tuk to Galle. There's no tourist friendly restaurants in the area, but good fried rice across the street. It's not really across the street from the beach, it's in a side road a bit, but that's a good thing, since the road is very busy and loud.
The owners are nice, responsive to requests, and will sort out cars and tuk-tuks. They seem eager to please, but they don't seem to know what they need to do to make it a more positive place.
Overall, this is an ok place to stay for a night or two while visiting Galle, but not somewhere that you'd want to spend much time at.
