We arrived by private bus from Shanghai Pudong airport after a 3hr ride. We wheeled our luggage into the hotel and checked in. The reception was busy and over worked. The staff did not speak much English. The passport scanning process also took awhile as there was only 1 machine. We were pointed in the right direction and made a beeline for our rooms.

Room
Our room was in a corner of the hotel, well away from the hustle and bustle of the other guests. Rooms are large in size and very generous. A marble floor entry way welcomes you and this leads to a thick carpeted floor in the bedroom area. We had two super single beds, with individual side tables. The beds were comfortable and afforded a good night’s rest. There a electrical points on each side of the bed.
Room lights can be controlled from both sides. Air con control was on the wall and this was easy to use.

A flat screen TV is built into the wall and a study table is placed closer to the floor to ceiling windows.

TV stations are mostly Chinese local stations. There’s also a music video station, HBO and Channel Newsasia. No international news station. WiFi can be received in the room.

There’s is a door leading out to the balcony. I found the door wedged open by the lock latch. The wind noise from the outside attracted my attention. You do share a balcony with the next room; separated by a hip height glass panel.

Rooms are not exactly sound proof. We could hear kids /families coming back and making a ton of noise in the corridor.

While there is supposedly no smoking in the room, one can smoke in the corridor. We saw well-used ash trays, and in the middle of the night, cigarette smoke seeped into our room.

The toilet is large with a bath tub against the glass window overlooking the room. An electric blind can be lowered for privacy. A single sink with lots of real estate for your personal toiletries takes Centre stage. There are some amenities provided, including shaver, toothbrush, q-tips, cotton buds, shower cap. Soap, shower gel, conditioner, shampoo and moisturizer are also provided.

The shower is a walk in variety with a rain shower and a hand held shower head.
The toilet is tucked in a corner of the bathroom, but not in a room of its own.

Long corridors
Expect to walk a distance to your room. The hotel is squat and long, thus the corridors are long. If you have health issues related to walking, ask for a room near the lifts.

Gym
The gym is situated in the basement. It’s well equipped with weights machines, free weights, and various cardio machines. The gym only opens at 7am. There’s also an indoor swimming pool.

Food options
There are Two restaurants and a bar. The Cafe on ground floor serves pretty decent food. Buffet for breakfast and dinner; with ala carte menu only starting after 8.30pm for dinner.
Chinese restaurant on second floor serves pretty good Chinese food. Noodle soup dishes are in generous portions. Food quality is good.

The hotel is right next to a convention and exhibition Centre; which was the main reason for choosing this joint. It’s a RMB12 cab ride to Coastal City mall. This a large mall with international and local brands. There’s plenty of food options here,as well as a supermarket.

Generally a positive stay and would probably stay here again if we are here again.

This hotel has huge rooms with great amenities, looks very luxurious, and was always kept very clean. Rates are very reasonable for what you get. Breakfast is the best I have seen in a while, with so many tasty options, including made to order Chinese and Western offerings. I was unable to eat lunch the entire week I was there due to overeating at breakfast.
For the active, there was a indoor large Olympic length swimming pool. Exercise room had lots of options as well, though there was no towel in sight which i thought was curious. Not sure if it is a BYOT kind of a deal.
Only real negative is the location, not much to do or see without a taxi ride. However, there is a nice outdoor waterfront walking trail for those into such. The wifi was also consistently slow.

On the whole the hotel was clean and quite new. The food in the restaurant appeared to be the same everyday for breakfast so after three days I was starting to wish for something different. The restaurant tables were not well cleaned. The wait staff simply removed dirty plates and chopsticks and replaced them with clean utensils but left stains and crumbs on the table uncleaned. But they were most enthusiastic about removing your dish the moment you leaned back from eating.

The hotel room was clean and quiet. Not much of a view but not too bad. The balcony door is locked but the cleaning lady can open it for you,

That said, this is a Chinese hotel, so be prepared for smokers galore. They smoke everywhere and I mean everywhere. The non smoking rooms go quickly so book and request early. If you are a smoker you will really enjoy your stay here.

The gym opens at 7am and I wished it was much earlier. The indoor pool is huge and looks pretty clean.

I had a pretty pleasant stay there, except the constant smell of cigarettes.

The hotel is in its soft-opening phase and will be officially opened in August. Rooms and bathrooms are very spacious and luxurious. Lovely views of the very quiet wetland green areas. Reception personnel speaks good English.

The adjoining big park at Wuxi Wetlands is great for families with kids. Waterways, boardwalks, a playground, basketball courts, great landscaping. The hotel will later have bikes for rent to explore the wetlands. So far, dining is limited to the hotel premises (good food) . Later, a small complex in a traditional water village 400 m from the hotel will provide more culinary attractions (Xuntang, opening planned for spring 2012)

Pool and spa of Worldhotel Grand Juna Wuxi are still under construction as of June 1, 2012

Downtown Wuxi is about 10 km to the north of the hotel and wetlands. A restored old town district has many restaurants and bars in the style of Shanghai Xintiandi.

Trains run every 30 minutes from Shanghai to Wuxi, the train ride takes 40 minutes. Hotel pickup from the train station is available.
Excellent outing for couples, groups of friends, and families to catch a few days of quiet. The hotel also caters to business travelers, especially for the exhibition Center nearby.

Soft-opening rates might be still available in June and July 2012, enquire directly at reservations
