We arrived by private bus from Shanghai Pudong airport after a 3hr ride. We wheeled our luggage into the hotel and checked in. The reception was busy and over worked. The staff did not speak much English. The passport scanning process also took awhile as there was only 1 machine. We were pointed in the right direction and made a beeline for our rooms.
Room
Our room was in a corner of the hotel, well away from the hustle and bustle of the other guests. Rooms are large in size and very generous. A marble floor entry way welcomes you and this leads to a thick carpeted floor in the bedroom area. We had two super single beds, with individual side tables. The beds were comfortable and afforded a good night’s rest. There a electrical points on each side of the bed.
Room lights can be controlled from both sides. Air con control was on the wall and this was easy to use.
A flat screen TV is built into the wall and a study table is placed closer to the floor to ceiling windows.
TV stations are mostly Chinese local stations. There’s also a music video station, HBO and Channel Newsasia. No international news station. WiFi can be received in the room.
There’s is a door leading out to the balcony. I found the door wedged open by the lock latch. The wind noise from the outside attracted my attention. You do share a balcony with the next room; separated by a hip height glass panel.
Rooms are not exactly sound proof. We could hear kids /families coming back and making a ton of noise in the corridor.
While there is supposedly no smoking in the room, one can smoke in the corridor. We saw well-used ash trays, and in the middle of the night, cigarette smoke seeped into our room.
The toilet is large with a bath tub against the glass window overlooking the room. An electric blind can be lowered for privacy. A single sink with lots of real estate for your personal toiletries takes Centre stage. There are some amenities provided, including shaver, toothbrush, q-tips, cotton buds, shower cap. Soap, shower gel, conditioner, shampoo and moisturizer are also provided.
The shower is a walk in variety with a rain shower and a hand held shower head.
The toilet is tucked in a corner of the bathroom, but not in a room of its own.
Long corridors
Expect to walk a distance to your room. The hotel is squat and long, thus the corridors are long. If you have health issues related to walking, ask for a room near the lifts.
Gym
The gym is situated in the basement. It’s well equipped with weights machines, free weights, and various cardio machines. The gym only opens at 7am. There’s also an indoor swimming pool.
Food options
There are Two restaurants and a bar. The Cafe on ground floor serves pretty decent food. Buffet for breakfast and dinner; with ala carte menu only starting after 8.30pm for dinner.
Chinese restaurant on second floor serves pretty good Chinese food. Noodle soup dishes are in generous portions. Food quality is good.
The hotel is right next to a convention and exhibition Centre; which was the main reason for choosing this joint. It’s a RMB12 cab ride to Coastal City mall. This a large mall with international and local brands. There’s plenty of food options here,as well as a supermarket.
Generally a positive stay and would probably stay here again if we are here again.
