My fella and I stayed at this hotel in September. We chose it, due to it's proximity to the hotel and its price. While many things about our stay were acceptable, we simply couldn't overlook a completely horrific night's sleep.
Pros:
- clean
- large rooms
- continental breakfast (only a pro, because I wouldn't have expected anything for the price. That said, it was granola bars and oatmeal-- just an FYI).
Cons:
As luck would have it (or, in this case, not), our room was situated between what appeared to be 4 rooms that had been rented to a group having a hotel party. This party included about 20 college-aged kids. From roughly 10pm to 3pm, they did the following:
- hung out in the hallway
- blasted music from both their rooms and in the hallway
- talked/yelled/laughed in the hallway (and could be heard in their rooms)
- ran back and forth between the 4 rooms, slamming door repeatedly
We called the front desk to ask if they could do something about the noise-- at least, have them take their party into their rooms, where the sounds were muffled (but could still be heard clearly from our room).
Initially, we were met with apologies from the front desk, and we even heard a hotel employee ask the party to refrain from sitting in the hallway and creating this disruption. However, nothing seemed to dampen the spirits of the party. What's more, the front desk gave up trying to contain it. The last time we called them (around 2 am), the response we received was, "Well, what do you want us to do about it? We asked them to stop." When we inquired about their policy for guest conduct and disturbance of the peace, the front desk rep. simply said, "Well, sorry, but they are paying guests, too. They have the right to use their room as they wish." We were stunned, and asked for clarification-- were we to understand that the other guests in the hotel weren't going to be permitted to have a night's sleep that they paid for, because some kids wanted to scream, yell, and drunkenly carry on all night? The answer was "Sorry, all we can do is put the name on the reservation on an exclusion list for future stays," and were told that there was nothing more they would do for us in the meantime.
The only reason the noise stopped was because the booze wore off and, slowly, they all went to sleep. Around 3:30, the music was turned down low enough that we were able to get some sleep.
I am utterly perplexed and angered by the actions taken on the part of this Extended Stay. I'm not sure why these guest were permitted to ruin a night's sleep for the rest of the hotel guests. I'm not sure why there is no policy in place for hotel parties, number of guests permitted in rooms after certain hours, noise levels, etc. I know that other hotels I have stayed in (all of the budget variety) have these firmly in place. Had it not been for these guests, it would have been a 4-star experience. Unfortunately, the night we experienced was completely unacceptable, and I feel compelled to warn others. We will never stay in an Extended Stay, again.
