Overall the hotel is decent, room was always clean. Some trash was always present in the morning around the club area, but was cleaned up later during the day.
Kind and helpful personnel.
Food was always good, fair price, not too expensive.
My biggest dissatisfaction is that the hotel closed off two out of three elevators for around 20 people from the national cricket team and me and the other guests were allowed to use only one. What happens if 100-200 guests stay at a hotel with only one available elevator? Also the pool and the main gym is closed off for any guests for at least a month or as long as the cricket team stay there. A hotel should treat all guests the same and equally, my experience was far from this. I have never seen any other hotel disregard their guests in favor for the cricket team. If you need to stay long time and want to enjoy all the facilities that the hotel has, then go there when the cricket team is not staying there.
I was looking forward to my stay at this renowned hotel in Bangladesh. My experience has not been what wd be expected of such an esteemed establishment.
Lets start with the room. The room has no complementary beverages in the minibar. There is no surround sound system. Tv has very few channels, nothing to my taste. It is really about time a hotel of this stature offer more modern entertainment like Netflix or Hotstar.
The view from the room is unappealing. It wd be nice to hv some plants on the terrace.
Worst of all. The bidet and rear wash on our toilet does not work. Which has beeen a hassel, to say the least. Firthermore, there are no hooks or bars for hanging clothes in the bathroom. There is an ugly hair dyer that just looks hedious.
The desk has an ugly lamp that gives very poor light.
Dining here has been a disappointment as well. The servers are inattentive and hard to call. I ordered steak with wich they forgot to serve a steak knife. I ordered cake for dessert which they forgot about. Its not like the place was crowded or anything. Such poor performnace is not expected in such an estbalishment.
Worst of all, there is no breakfast buffet. That is just wrong. They take a very long time to serve food. Such delay in the morning is a bit upsetting for business travelers like me.
The menu was the most surprising. All the menus are printed on plain paper. This cd be for Covid so thay cd throw them away regularly. Fine. At least they cd put those pages in a nice binder or something.
Then once during dinner the menu I got was dirty. Which is unappealing enough as it is, but it also shows that they don’t throw away used menus. So why the unattractive menus?
Also they don’t give any completentary soft drinks with any of the meals.
Now coming to the pool. They hv a horrible tiny hot tub. It will barely fit 5 ppl and looks ugly. They hv the space to hv a few small pool beside the main large pool. Their utilization of the space is very unattractive.
Also there is no in pool drinking or eating.
I expect world class service from a hotel of such affluence as Pan Pacific Sonargao. As a hotel that hosts elites and diplomats of this country, it is very embarassing to think that they may have experience some of this. This is very embarassing for our country.
The hotel of such esteem and signifcance should have much better service. The experience is not upto the level expected from such an establishment.
So 3 stars.
I wd also like to add.
It wd be nice if an economy menu was available at least for things like burgers and sandwhiches. Especially for families and kids. Discounts for couples and families on the buffet wd be nice.
I recently paid a visit with my friend to pool cafe restaurant of the hotel. The waiters named Kader and the bar manager Moinul delivered a terrible and extremely disappointing experience. The waiter Kader was extremely rude, impolite and not taking his job seriously. We ordered food but it took Kader more than an hour to serve the food to us. His behaviour was extremely impolite and rude. The bar manager Moinul was also extremely rude and impolite in his behavior. No wonder, if the restaurant offers such terrible service, regular guests like myself and others will leave the property and choose substitutes like westin etc.
I was a regular guest at the Sonargaon from 1992 to 1996. At the time the Sonargaon was the place to stay in Dhaka. Their business centre was open 24/7 even in those days with telex, fax, PCs and printers. The lobby of the Sonargaon was the meeting point for all traders involved in textile business. From the pictures posted today I recognize the hotel lobby and the Jharna Grill Restaurant where I could enjoy wonderful Bangladeshi food; the swimming pool where I used to refresh myself at the end of every working day. I still have very good memories about all my stays; impeccable service and outstanding location. By reading the comments of the current customers I am pleased to discover that most of them are still considering the Sonargaon the best place in Dhaka. In 1992 we did not have Tripadvisor to comment our opinions so I decided to post mine now.
all in good...
I booked for 3 days and i liked the service so i stayed for another 7 days. my room was located near the swimming pool. the receptionist.
, i would definitiv come back here next time i visit...
