We stayed at Mazeppa Bay self catering units for 5 days. The rooms were really untidy. Our shower was not working for the 4 days that we stayed there, they had to open up the room next door to us for usage of the showers. The toilets were not flushing - the maintenance guys came by everyday from the day we checked in. There were insects on the beds all the time... This fell from the thatch roofs. There were cockroaches in the room that we stayed in and lizards like you would not believe. We stayed in the 2 bedroomed self catering Shelley and my parents bed was drenched with water due to a leak in the thatch roof due to the rain. Thank God it rained on 1 day our of the 5 days stayed. My children were really uncomfortable. The hotel should be refunding some of our monies - we really didn't get value for money. We paid R2500 a night - rediculous amount to be paying for an a unit that really should be rated at 1 star.
Its a long and uncomfortable from along the gravel road to get to Mazeppa Bay. Once there the coastline is stunning. The hotel staff were welcoming and friendly. Check-in was quick and efficient. Were were directed to a double story apartment. The inside was well decorated however it was a little tatty. It had seen better days. The bedding was clean and the beds comfortable.
The hotel overall is "old" but functional. The dinner and breakfast supplied the the dining room was good comfort food however the service is a little slow but hay with the view who cares!
A tropical paradise to spend a few days. We savour every moment when we go there (every few months). It has everything we look for in terms of a great place to relax. They also pay attention to detail in terms of dietary requirements, and will make dishes to cater as far as possible if you let them know on your booking forms. We were also particularly impressed on this most recent visit, when we forgot some clothes in the bedroom cupboard when we checked out - and only realised the next day. The hotel deliveried our clothes to East London, SA, where we live- washed and ironed, at no additional charge! That's great service. We will definitely be back.
We spent a week at Mazeppa with friends who had never been before but had heard so much about it that they wanted to experience what it was like. None of us were at all disappointed. We had sea facing rooms which were very clean and serviced on a daily basis. It has a relaxed, casual feel about it, you wouldn’t have to dress up to go to the dining room. The meals are excellent and quantities more than adequate. If one is so inclined, there are some lovely walks along the beach or inland. There are two bars, the one upstairs is lovely to go to for a bit of peace and quiet, they are both well stocked. The bar ladies are all friendly and helpful.Unfortunately the road is horrendous and not sign posted at all so do your homework before embarking on the trip. However once you eventually get there, you would not have to use your car again until you leave and it is worth the bumpy trip. Tea and coffe is provided during the day with treats in the afternoon. Lovely place to just unwind.
On our way to Mazeppa it was raining - really raining. We were thinking that we made a huge mistake choosing that particular weekend. Then we arrived at the hotel....wow. The staff and management, the food, the entertainment area and the room was great and that made the whole weekend well worth it. Mazeppa is the perfect place to lose yourself in the beauty of nature.
