We camped at Track and Trail for 4 nights in mid October. It was my first time at the camp and also in South Luangwa. What an incredible place. We were visited by ellies and hippo in the camp pretty much on a nightly basis. The two story thatched camping hides were a great and unique touch. The riverside rimflow pool was beautiful and it was nice to be able to use a gym. The bar and lounge area are pretty without being too flashy, and the views across the river are great. It's quick and easy to get into the park, which for its part provides the best game viewing of anywhere I have ever been. Staff are friendly and helpful and there are plenty of activities, most notably the photographic safaris with the lodge's owner Peter. This is a great experience for any budding photographers and Peter really knows his stuff, and the customized photographic Land Cruiser is a special touch. Overall, an unforgettable experience and a wonderful place to enjoy all that South Luangwa has to offer, without paying through the roof for a more luxurious option. From what I could see, chalets and suites also looked very nice, as did the food being served up in the restaurant, I will definitely be back!

We chanced upon this remarkable camp by fortuitous accident , having booked elsewhere but not impressed upon arrival at that camp....Our lucky day!

Track and Trail is superb , excellent location, excellent facilities, excellent raised, rim pool under huge shady trees, great bar and restaurant area and a very fine camping area. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

As we were only there for one night we simply set up camp under one of the thatch roofed areas, hung our mosquito nets and laid our mattresses for a fine nights rest before an early departure....

We really rate this Camp very highly and can strongly recommend Track and Trail to any fellow travelers. We will be back....

I was on a business trip to Lusaka and decided to stay an extra four days in South Luangwa after reading so many positive comments about this "hidden gem". I booked a fly in package with Track and Trail, very convenient as you pay a lump sum and they book everything for you - flights to/from Mfuwe, transportation to the lodge, all meals, all drives, and accommodation of course.

I stayed in one of the chalets overlooking the river - just sitting on my balcony I could see hippos, crocodiles, and elephants on the other side. Impalas and monkeys are moving freely within the camp, and at night hippos and elephants cross the river and move around the chalets - can be quite scary the first night! The food was delicious, a three course meal for lunch and dinner, everything was spot on. Only international dishes were served so maybe an idea would be to have every two or three days a local/Zambian meal (which perhaps is already the case). The camp is very relaxing, clean and beautiful. There is even an open air gym and a pool, and sofas nicely placed in front of the river. It really is a dream place.

Then, the drives. I was lucky and privileged to have an excellent guide, a young man named Perry. He is so reliable, knowledgeable, and friendly - any question about anything, bird, animal, the sky at night, trees, the weather, the region - he would have the answer. One of the most interesting aspects of the South Luangwa park is its diversity - the landscapes and sceneries change rapidly and the roads in the park do not look like motorways, so you really feel like you are in the middle of nature. We saw leopards, elephants, wild dogs and many other animals, and for every drive Perry choose a different itinerary, meaning that it felt like a different place each time - once near the river in a quite desertic area, the next one on top of a hill, and always finding the right spot where to have sundown drinks and relax in this beautiful environment. I am most grateful to Perry for his professionalism and for making these drives great experiences each time. In the evenings we were accompanied by another young man who was studying to become a guide, Muki, who was also very good.

All in all I would strongly recommend this place for anybody looking for a peaceful and beautiful camp, just next to the Luangwa river and a 10' drive from the main entrance of the park, and with excellent guides.

Our family visited through Kiboko safari, so everything was included apart from the drinks (very expensive but delicious! especially the fruit cocktail containing freshly squeezed lime juice from limes from the tree just next to the bar). I can only say that we never wanted to leave. Our manager, Michael, was just fabby - so friendly and helpful. The tents (we upgraded to luxury) were absolutely gorgeous, overlooking the river full of hippos, and the pool was really something else - although we had a bit of difficulty reaching it as there were a number of elephant obstructing our route! The food was alright not bad not amazing, and all the drives were fantastic. The game viewing in luangwa really is spectacular, and we saw basically everything apart from rhino during our 2 days there! So if you're looking for spectacular game viewing, beautiful and peaceful accommodation, and friendly service, this is the place to go!
