We stayed on the 6th floor on building A. Our room is 603, our window facing another room on building B. The room was nice & clean. On the second night, we had 1 crawling visitor, Mr. Roach. Other than that it was fine. We stayed 3 nights here.
The front desk staff are nice. Limited English (thank goodness for Google translate 😊).
One front desk staff can speak very good Mandarin, we asked her to helped us to book a taxi for a day to go to Bac Son. The taxi driver charge us 968000 VND (it's about $50) and we agreed on the price. The next morning the driver showed up a little bit late than the time we are agreed on.
As soon as we are on the car, the driver speaks Vietnamese to me (I do look Asian) but told him I only speaks English or Mandarin. Then he was constantly on the phone, finally he handed the phone to me and says China. The guy on the phone asked me how long we will be in Bac Son? I told him that we don't know. Then he asked if 968000VND is ok with us and I said yes. Then the guy said that if we want the driver to wait for us, we have to pay 60000VND each hour he is waiting for us. I told the guy that is not our agreement, he told us 968000 VND for a day, that is mean he knows that he have to wait for us. These conversations been back and forth between him talking and calling different guy to talk to us. Finally I have enough, I told him that we want to go back to the hotel. He then showed us 300000VND if we wanted to go back (the meter showed 170000VND). We agreed. When we arrived in the hotel, we gave him 300000VND, he shakes his head and showed us the meter, which showed 326000VND. We got out the car and just gave him 300000VND and walked in to the hotel.
If you hired a taxi, please make sure the price is clear between you and the driver.
So we just walked around the neighborhood instead. There's huge wet market not far from the hotel, we also take pictures of the restaurant we eat while we are in Lang Son. The food is good and not expensive. You can pick the meat & vegetables yourself. Every meal come with rice and soup for the day. The restaurant is a walking distance from the hotel.
