We wanted to stay close to Axminster and found this place. It's a diner but it also has 6 rooms at the back. Check-in is in the cafe which closes at 5.00 so make sure you arrive before then. Reception was quick and professional. The room we stayed in was basic but had everything you need. Ensuite bathroom, tea & coffee making facilities, TV etc. The bed was comfortable enough for a short stay. Breakfast is included and is served in the cafe and it really is a good start to the day. We also had carvery on Sunday which was good. Overall I would say the service was good and the prices were good value for the area. We would stay here again if in the area. I have to mention Nicole who was always very friendly and helpful.
From the outside it resembles a service station cafe (which it is) but hidden behind the cafe are 5 rooms. we stayed in room number 1 and it was spacious and clean with a good size bathroom and tea and coffee, clean towels, and although you are on the side of a very busy A35 it was very quiet.
a full breakfast is severed in the café and the staff were very friendly and the food was hot and fresh.
bad points, reception is at the café till and if they are busy serving you could have to join the cue to check in.
definately would stay her again when we are in the area
I stayed in room 4, a single.. and the room looked like it was brand new! Very clean, but definatly a "no frills" experience. If you want your room serviced, you have to request it; understandable as most people would be using this for an overnight stay while on their way to somewhere else.
Breakfast was included in the adjoing cafe..and was freshly cooked and adequate.
TIP: Make sure you check in EARLY! I arrived at about 1830 on a Sunday, and had to pick up my keys from the service station next door. Some others were not so lucky; they arrived at about 1930 on a MONDAY, and there was nobody at all that could be contacted, even though their room was booked AND PAID FOR in advance!!!
We were impressed with the accommodation when we first arrived. Breakfast was a disappointment as there were only small boxes of children's cereals on offer and you had to prepare your own toast which we have never had to do at a B & B before. The atmosphere was a bit tense too in the dining room on our second day there as we could hear the owner shouting at the staff. The real shock came however, when we came back from a day out and found our bed as we had left it, cups not washed up - it was clear no one had serviced the room. What were we paying for we wondered? We had to go out and buy muesli and soap.We had no grumbles about the chef however as the two nights we stayed at the restaurant for dinner it was very good and the young waiter very pleasant..
There was no real warmth there however, no owner asking if you had enjoyed your day and no one in sight when we left, the office being locked.
With some 'tweeks' this could be a nice place to stay but I feel they are trying to do too much and, sadly, failing on all counts.
Stayed two nights here, clean and functional room. Good bed and everything you need for a couple of nights. Very easy to find too.
Roadside cafe next door for nice breakfast it is a travel cafe so full English breakfast is good. Many other items on the menu too. Also serves lunch n dinner. Prices reasonable too.
Good place to stay at a reasonable price.
