We had originally booked Hotel Marina Del Capo but got a WhatsApp message 2 days before our booking to say we were being moved to Vale Mare.
I’ll start by saying this hotel is in a great location. It is right on the beach, with access to a private beach.
On arrival, the girl at reception was very nice. We checked in and the room seemed quite nice and modern with a huge TV. It was a good size. However, we realised that the window didn’t lock. It was at waist height and a big window so anyone could easily open it from the outside and climb in.
We went back to reception and spoke with another girl. We showed her the window and she could not care less. Her response was “We have CCTV cameras.” We asked if there was another room we could move to and she said no.
As we were only there for one night, we just locked our suitcases and hoped for the best.
We then after realised the room was not particularly clean. The towels had some stains. The seals on the toiletries were burst and it appeared that they had not been changed since the last guests. The shower screen was dirty.
After the attitude with regards to the window, we didn’t bother complaining.
The room was very, very cheap which is why I haven’t marked a lower score. It was around £65 for 1 night for 2 people including dinner and breakfast.
Dinner was edible. Breakfast was actually really good! The staff at dinner and breakfast were really lovely and friendly.
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. It has the potential to be great but just isn’t.
Hotel is perfect located near the old town of Tropea. Very close to the beach. Personal at the reception where friendly but at the restaurant not. The room and bathroom was large and clean. The airport is 65 minutes away from the hotel. Breakfast was very poor, no eggs and meat, just one croissant. The dinner was very good, you can choose. It's a three course menu.
We booked this hotel whilst looking for a pretty village to break our journey after seeing great pics online.
On the approach the village is like a ghost town with lots of abandoned homes and resorts.
When we finally found the Vilamare we were honestly dumbfounded as the main entrance was nothing more than a gated back door leading to a pokey desk room which posed as the reception. We all nearly gagged with the stink of the airfreshner and asked to see the rooms before actually committing to stay. The reaction was charged with attitude from the lady boss who promptly snatched up our passports to check us in and secure the booking payment.
The entrance to the actual rooms we were offered is via a staircase outside the front entrance and round the corner, up some steps.
The rooms were large and accommodating but not our idea of a decent hotel at all. Even the parking is lied about - it is just outside street parking - and not much of it at all.
From pictures and descriptions which we saw and read about we felt very deceived by what we actually found.
We just put our bags back in the car and left.
A big thank you to Lilliana, the hard working and charming breakfast lady that makes our coffee... and keeps bringing more until we have had too much 😊
People have asked about room numbers. We are in 307 with a pretty good sea view. I reckon 310 is the best though.
My wife and I just spent one night here on our way to Bari. Location is very suggestive and the view is nice, the room was spacious and very cleaned. Optimal if you want to enjoy the sea or explore the inland Calabria.
